I read an interview with David Morell. In it he tells the story about how his lawyer charged him extra for adding a clause in the agreement with Hollywood that he gets paid for any sequels. He said he told his lawyer "how can there be sequels? Rambo dies at the end." He said that his lawyer told him "this is Hollywood. By the time they are done with it Rambo it could be a musical". It made me laugh.

I remember the original "Fugitive" TV series. When the series finale was announced, there was a rumor that Girard, an Indiana police officer who investigated the murder of Mrs. Kimball, was the real killer, which would explain why he was "obsessed with his [Kimball's] capture" as the weekly narration told us.
@nathanelke523411 ай бұрын
Hm. I wonder if that's why my older brother thought that actually WAS the case...he was around at that time (it was before my time) but once, when we were talking about it, he said that was the big reveal. When I eventually saw the finale, I was quite surprised! :)

The whole thing with the tracker in Star Wars would have ended up being yet another dumb thing that makes no sense in a plethora of dumb things that makes no sense in that trilogy. Like, you're seriously telling me that in the several decades since A New Hope, Han and Chewie never found and removed the imperial tracker from their ship?! Then why did the Empire lose track of them during the chase in The Empire Strikes Back?! If they still had the tracker, that should have still worked! For once Abrams did a smart thing with those movies. Too bad the rest was such a mess.

I watched Army of Darkness yesterday. That *is* the ending. Ash is supposed to take some liquid drops that sleep for 100 years per drop, but he gets interrupted and loses count. Upon waking up, he initially is pleased by seeing plastic and manufactured goods before seeing a ruin of the UK Parliament, very much in a nod to Planet of the Apes.

Tommy Lee Jones/Girard's response of "I don't care" after Kimball said he didn't kill his wife was a great tone setter for the movie and for the character of Girard, and was one of the best movie lines from that era. Girard's job is to bring Dr. Kimball in. So he shouldn't care even if he for some reason did think Kimball is innocent. That information has nothing to do with his task at hand, and shows that he has no personal interest in Kimball himself but rather simply the fact that he is a fugitive.

The one about the army of darkness ending with ash slept too long that was used on the 20th anniversary directors cut on blu ray honesty that ending makes more sense as what made him slept too long was he had to have a certain number of drops from the potion and due to some rocks crumbling he forgot the amount he had

So glad that Clerks and The Fugitive went the way they did. As for other endings that nearly happened, you should see the video Kevin Smith talks about the planned ending of Red State. In the video, Rev Kev describes how the trumpet sound actually heralds the coming of the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse. After laying waste to nearly every survivor of the shootout between government agents and the religious zealots, one Horseman turns to John Goodman and says "SHHHH", ending the picture. However, being that this ending would more than double the relatively small budget, Smith explained that this ending was way too cost prohibitive, thus necessitating the new, arguably better finish where the director utters the line that tells Michael Parks' preacher to "SHUT UP!"
@jaeusa16011 ай бұрын
@2:35 The Fugitive would've been much worse off for it in general. It would have been the most predictable and boring outcome. Instead, what we got was more of a Dual Protagonist piece where we're rooting for Kimble more, but we're rooting for Gerard to come over to our side too and sort out who the real murderer is.

The Fugitive was a TV-Show before it became a movie. In that show policeman Gerard turned out to be the villain of the plot. So, with that knowledge it would not surprise seeing Tommy Lee Jones play the villain of the film. It was rather a nice surprise to see the villain be someone else. I haven't actually seen any of the Rambo movies, but I've heard that all of the sequels completely subvert the intent of the first movie, in that the first movie is about showing the horrors of war and the tragic longterm effects on the soldiers who fight in them, whereas the sequels glorify war and turn Rambo into a stereotypical action hero. I'd say that's a tragedy in itself.
@Hipp0campus_111 ай бұрын
John Rambo (the 4th part), moves a bit back towards the original premise. But it doesn't come close to First Blood. Part 2 and 3 are (somewhat enjoyable) Hollywood 90's action cashgrabs that have nothing to do with the first movie. At least they gave us the famous "blue light" quote.
@RemyJackson11 ай бұрын
First Blood portrays Rambo as a veteran coping with PTSD and survivors' guilt a decade after Vietnam. Not really the guy you would choose to send back to Vietnam to take photos. In First Blood, he goes to great lengths to not kill anybody. The one person that does die falls out of a helicopter after Rambo throws a rock at it because the guy was shooting at him.

If Gerard had ended up being the baddie in The Fugitive, it would have undermined arguably his best line: "I don't care!" Justice for Knives indeed. Scott Pilgrim vs the World is a redemption film about a total asshole who has to come to terms with his own assholiness. He does this , of course, and his sentence, as it were, is to try to be better with the awesome trainwreck that is Ramona Flowers. Together they might have a chance. But Knives deserved better. She did nothing wrong... aside from stalking, making herself into a clone of Ramona, trying to kill Ramona... but then she got the blue punched out of her hair, so that makes up for a lot (yes, I Know, the punching happened before she tried to kill Ramona. It's not a perfect metaphor). No, she needed a new start, with someone worth her time. Okay those were the only movies I cared about The Fugitive was okay, and Scott Pilgrim is in my top 5 or so of all time. I'm fairly sure they made it specifically for me, but I tend to believe a lot of weird things about myself.

Speed is one where it might have been better because student vs. mentor is richer than cop vs. maniac, but Hopper was so damn great that it worked out well anyway. Fugitive would have been much worse if you made Gerard a villain. His “I don’t care,” is utterly iconic because it is true. While later he cares (because he’s a great marshal), at the time he fully doesn’t because his job is just to bring back an escaped fugitive found guilty in a court of law: the case has already been litigated and it is not his job to re-open it. He does not care. If he’s the primary antagonist, he always cares and in the wrong direction.

My Dad told me a story that during the run of THE FUGITIVE tv series (1963-67), a friend at work told him a rumor that Phillip Gerard (Barry Morse) was really the murderer, not the one-armed man. Gerard is such a total BASTARD in the series, so unrelenting he allows his obsession to twist his son (Kurt Russell) and nearly destroys his marriage (wife played by Barbara Rush), and right up to the cliffhanger at the end of episode 119, he STILL never lets the growing mountain of evidence sway his attitude. Then, at the beginning of episode 120, he suddenly decides to give Kimble 24 hours to do further investigation in his home town, where they find there was an EYE-WITNESS to the murder (J.D. Cannon!), who only comes forward to give testimony in the last 5 MINUTES of the last episode, AFTER Gerard has actually shot the real killer DEAD, thus eliminating any chance of the guy ever admitting to his crime! What would have been WORSE... series creator Roy Huggins went on record saying he felt giving the show an ending was a mistake, as he felt it killed the show's chances in syndication. Huggins may have been successful, but on this score, he was a COMPLETE ASSHOLE. Who would actually want to read a novel if the last chapter was missing? More, who would want to RE-READ a novel, already knowing the last chapter was missing? That final 2-parter makes plowing thru the other 118 episodes again WORTH IT! The movie doesn't hold a candle to the tv show. I liked the sequel, U.S. MARSHALS, better.
