I agree that A Christmas Carol can be read anytime because its main theme is applicable all year long-not only during the Christmas season! Thank you, Valerie, for this fine list of short novels.

Lovely reading list!As regards the Salem Witch Trials I would be familiar with aspects of the story having seen stuff on TV and indeed the movie adaptation of The Crucible with Winona Ryder,Daniel Day Lewis and Paul Scofield.I saw one documentary that suggested a bacterial fungus in the wheat,and I love my brother's song inspired by the events.
