This is the difference between an influencer and an actual medical professional who is qualified to give you advice. Influencers will swear up and down that you need those fad ingredients, toners, probiotics, whatever in your routine for the perfect skin with a discount code to boot. Medical professionals will promote the simplest routine possible that actually have scientific evidence backing it.

It really annoys me that certain companies also sell their products for an ungodly amount of money. Then you check the ingredients and most of the time half the stuff in these creams, serums, and toners are inexpensive ingredients with loads of fragrances and irritants. Thankfully there are more and more companies who are stepping up their game and not overcharging us.

You have to realize that most of the AFFORDABLE drugstore skincare options are filled with parabens & preservatives than active ingredients. Estheticians recommend more expensive skincare items because they have more active ingredients that will target your specific skin concerns. Everyone's skin is different so not every product will work for everyone but you can't target hyperpigmentation if you're solely using cetaphil... I'm sorry it just won't happen.

@samiadams3461 3 жыл бұрын
You see this all the time and here’s why. Derms typically do recommend drug store skincare products... their cheap and easy to get your hands on. Esthetician’s care more about where the product is made and how it’s sourced along with the ingredients it’s made up by. It’s same with hair. Drug store hair care is not the same as salon quality. It all just depends on your budget at the end of the day. Do what works for YOU!

I started using Vaseline on my face, neck and decolletage when I was a cash strapped student in the late 80s. I'm 53 now and am asked often what I do to care for my skin, because it's in good shape. Over 35 years, I reckon I've spent about $100 bucks on moisturizer, and happy to brag about that.

Unsure, I once asked the beautician ladies at the store if it was okay to use Vaseline. They said, "oh no, never use Vaseline! Just keep using the moisturizer you're using already, and stick with that. You're skin is so beautiful and dewy and healthy, don't ruin that." Didn't get around to telling them, I was using Vaseline. That was 25 yrs ago. Still use it, and I still have great skin (I'm 60).

THANK YOOUUUUUU for #10. I'm a gynecologist, and I spend so.much.time trying to get people to kick the feminine wash habit. Dr. Dray is 1000% right! Warm water and a nice gentle washcloth will do just fine to clean the vulva. (and don't even worry about cleaning the vagina at all. Totally not necessary.) If you work out or are sweaty/smelly, totally fine to use a mild, scent-free soap in the groin and over hair bearing areas. But keep that stuff away from the delicate tissues of the labia! They are mucous membranes, just like the inside of your mouth. And no one puts soap in their mouth!

Isn’t that common sense? I habe the perfect skincare routine, I have 3 very good moisturizer, retinol (retina, tretinol,) hyaloron serum from la roche possay, and how you use it, is very important! Sandwich your Retinol or your skin will likely be terrible (google retinol destroyed my face), use it once a week, then hyaloron acid and put it after the moisturizer! My skin looks amazing! And dont waste your money

@@SjofnBM1989 What a great story SB!!!! Perfect response! And I'm glad he's doing well with that lotion. Hooray! Same thing happened to me just today actually! At my orthodontist, the reclining dentist chairs face a large window that faces the sun during my appointments. Instead of waiting for my doc in those chairs, I now choose to wait in a different chair that puts my back to that window instead of facing it. It was overcast and snowing out today, and when I still opted for the sun-free waiting chair, one of the assistants remarked that there was no sun out today, like I was a little coocoo. I ignored and just stayed in my chair, envisioning my future pretty complexion. It's great to have info you can take to the bank. 🙌

Oils can be helpful. I have eczema all over on my body several years ago. My dermatologist prescribed me Triamcilonone ointment and asked me to put a moisturizer on top after the medicine. I followed the order and skin got less irritated, but never clear up. After 2 or 3 years, I found the Viva sweet almond oil and I finally saw the light for this long journey. Only a momth of usage (lubricant everynight, especially right after shower), my eczema was almost gone! There are couple spots with persistent eczema still require medicine and normal moisturizer, but the rest area was stable with just the oil! Thus, I do think oils can do something good to our skin, especially to help recovering our damage skin barrier. I am still using my sweet almond oil to maintain a healthy skin and I love it!

Toner is quite essential in my opinion. It is the 1 thing that calms the skin and the 1st thing I apply after cleansing. Without the toner, it just feels very weird. Maybe ask any Asian girl, if they can live without toner. hahaha... Toner is STEP 1 ~ Many of the other items mentioned are totally discretionary. I find Rose Water very useful in summer as I spray my skin throughout the day.

So very thankful and grateful that I found your channel. I’m old..almost 74 yrs old. Not bad...I’ve stayed out of sun and used sun screen for last 30 years. Used to tan...gave it up. You’re so down to earth, you’re adorable, you’re funny, you are truthful ( my gut instinct has been right my entire life..99% of time). No bs...just the facts. I buy some of the products you mention...Cerave, Cetaphil, day care moisturizers all contain sun screen. I’ve tried products when I was younger...but just rely now on simple, good quality facial/body products (because I’ve been watching you for 3 weeks ... almost every night before going to sleep. ). I know, for sure, when I was first hitting my teen years, I don’t even remember any eye creams being talked about. I was thinking...a few months back, do I really need eye creams? Thank you. I live alone...only child...single parent, hectic job...and helped raise all 5 of my grandchildren in between....and fostered/adopted several pets from animal shelters. Grandkids all grown up..busy with living life. I’m usually alone (but I did adopt 2 sickly stray cats .. both at different times. Some health issues...many losses of loved ones (both human and non human)...even my 37 yr. old daughter..so suddenly...heart condition. It runs in my entire family. Thought I’d be long gone by now. I’ve never used any type of foundation. I don’t like the way it feels. Had to stop working due to fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, bulging herniated disks in spine, sciatica (both sides...what fun!), arthritis, tendinitis, sinusitis, arthritis....and I’m a tiny woman. Been on my own a long time...never remarried...family and all my pets always came first. Still do. I’m very happy alone. I think I’ve grown and observed and learned, changed and evolved into preferring hanging with non humans now. Many adult humans just annoy me and exhaust me. Sorry, rambling. Just want to thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to share your opinions, as a dermatologist...and as someone who just cares about others who don’t know any better...and we sometimes think the latest trend will help us look younger. Old age isn’t fun....but I’m calmer, wiser and have learned to live in the present moment. Took me years of sorrow and heartbreak..to learn about life. The only thing we have control over is our thoughts, our feelings, our perceptions, our opinions and our actions. So...now I kinda just try to go with the flow. And LIFE is so unpredictable and fleeting. I live each day as if it might be my last...still trying to help others (both family and non humans) when I’m able. Limited income...it’s hard...with a big human family, a tiny home (I think I mentioned I live alone)...and caring fir 13 feral cats (all tnrd), the raccoons, the opossums, the squirrels, etc... Best part...they all pretty much trust me...and they all get along. I’ve subscribed and will continue to watch your videos. You really are so darn cute...and thanks for sharing your time and for sharing your honest opinions. 💖💫👍😍

I also have acne, my dad's cure all... go tanning! Makes me want to pull my hair out lol. I try to sneak sunscreen into his skin, but I have only been partially successful. Thankfully I recently roped my mom into being an accomplice. Fingers crossed. Sadly in a weird way, both of them have good skin. I do not understand it. Unless they see ten new wrinkles right after coming home from the beach, I don't think either one will jump on the sunscreen bandwagon. Unfortunately, I am still searching for a sunscreen I actually like. I know I need to use it, I do, but I hate them. The makeup I use does not react well with silicones, which makes things even harder. Open to suggestions lol

I am a middle aged guy who has better skin than 95% of the population and I used to work in the cosmetics/chemical industry, so I have some unique prospective. Some of these takes on certain products are very extreme. A good eye product can make a huge difference. The issue is most eye creams are not well formulated. For hydration sake, yes, a face product will add hydration to the skin around your eyes just as well, but a well-formulated eye product can also add other benefits such help reduce (not cure) puffiness, lighten darkness and plump up crow's feet. Also, wipes are not as evil as suggested. I wouldn't use it as main cleansing product but it's perfectly good for after the gym, leaving a long international flight, or otherwise in between cleansing when you can't get to water and cleanser very easily. Not all wipes leave heavy residues or filmy feeling. It's again, a formulation concern. Sadly, the industry is largely women brainstorming how to comes up with new/silly/different ideas to compel other women to buy stuff...and not always about scientific merits. My rule of thumb to not to trust smaller brands. Product performance, side-effects, safety or sustainability and so on are not something a small company can handle well - not financially possible. Whereas large companies have dedicated resources to do large scale research and testing. Do not believe some small companies claiming some magical ingredients because the same ingredients are available to the large companies.

I think it depends on what you're using them for. If it's just to moisturize, then probably can just use a moisturizer. But some good eye creams can address very specific issues. In my case, dark circles. Most eye creams didn't work but one was a miracle worker. Like literally took 3-4 applications to see major results. But the reason was that it works on the microcirculation issue that can cause dark undereyes...it wouldn't work if it was hereditary or even some other issue... So you really have to figure out the cause before you try a solution.

About 15 years ago, I was having a terrible time with irritation and itching in the feminine area. I was about to lose my mind. It was hard to be in public because all I wanted to do was rub. All I ever used in that area was the soap I showered with. So I started researching and read an article that said no type of cleanser was required for that area of the body. It was hard for me to do, but I quit washing down there and only let clear water run down. The itching and irritation immediately went away and has never come back. And I realized that I am still clean in that area and soap or cleanser is not needed.

Some people will say they are hazardous to your health, fire hazard, cause allergies/sensitivities. The real thing with me is that I always get 1-4 per year as gifts, so I’m just not buying them anymore! 💁🏻‍♀️

@@universe25.x , from Huffpost, "...one of the main problems with scented candles is the scent itself. According to Anne Steinemann, an environmental pollutants expert who is a professor of civil engineering and the chair of sustainable cities at the University of Melbourne, certain candles may emit numerous types of potentially hazardous chemicals, such as benzene and toluene. They can cause damage to the brain, lung and central nervous system, as well as cause developmental difficulties."

This video was super informational! Thank you! I think I've just gotten into certain skincare habits that make me feel good about what I'm doing, but as I have more "mature" skin now, I'm relying on liquid exfoliation etc. and staying away from wipes, scrubs, toner, etc. Streamlined my skin care regimen for sure! I actually laughed out loud a few times during this video...this woman cracks me up with her super honest, and "to the core" commentary.

Real rose water is amazing but you need to be careful and get the right one - no parfumes, no additives, just pure distilled rose flower water. It has really been life changing for my face. I use it as a first step before my HA serum in the AM and PM and I've seen so much less inflamation and irritation. My skin feels moisturized and so well nourished which I havent been able to achieve with any other water-based product (I always include water based sprays/solutions before/after an HA serum so the HA has water to work with).

Yes, I agree. I make my own rose water with one soup bowl of petals from my "Gertrude Jekyll" rose. (Blooms once in May and once in July, so I only have rose water in the summer, lol.) I boil 2 cups of distilled water, pour it over the petals, let sit 1/2 hour. Strain through sterile sieve into sterile bottle. Allow to cool. Store in fridge. Could be just the purity of distilled water on my face without the crap tap water has it, but I find it hydrating.

And I agree with Dr D and you, it's better to lock it down with moisturizer afterwards, if I am just misting it as part of my facial care routine. If I am misting it later in the day, over my morning facial care/mineral sunscreen, I don't bother. I also wash and rinse with it, after letting it get to room temperature.

While reading the comments about intimate washes I had a"ding, ding, ding" moment. Since I was a teenager I've been using them when I shower, especially during my period. And for many years I've been dealing with severe itching. I thought it was because of the incontinence pads I use during the day (which probably don't help). But now I realize that the wash is the problem. Feminine wash gone!

Facial oils have done wonders to my skin, I no longer feel stripped in my face after a shower, no longer cracking skin on my forehead and nose etc. It really does work! And different oils really is a big no-no if you're acne prone. Coconut oil does not come near my face cause it breaks me out a lot!

Same. I live in Chicago and just a few minutes outside in the winter will give me horrible wind burns. I slather on facial oil before I go out and it significantly reduces the wind burn. Oh and for a double whammy I rub it on my lashes I have noticed an incredible difference in how burnished they are and I don’t lose them as quickly which allows for them to grow longer.

Clinique 3 step programme is something I used in my mid twenties and it absolutely ruined my, before that point, clear and great skin. I then spent many years healing the damage and trying to correct the hyperpigmentation and scarring from the breakouts it caused all over my cheeks. Horrible stuff!!! I remember going back to the stand in the department store to say it was not agreeing with my face and trying to get a refund, only to be told that it was just part of "the process" of my skin detoxing itself. So, being less educated and clued up on skincare now, I foolishly carried on trying to use it and only stopped when all my cheeks broke out.
