We like to think that celebrities got to where they are because they’re so obviously unlike the rest of us. Aside from talent and hard work, they’re blessed with the genetic lottery of looking so good. But for a lot of Hollywood executives, this isn’t enough. So many celebrities have almost lost out on roles and entire careers just because of one thing: their weight. For a Hollywood executive or studio president, there seems to be no such thing as too thin. Should weight be a deciding factor in who gets the role? For Hollywood at the moment, the answer is yes. Both male and female stars have gotten the stick for not losing enough weight or being thin enough. From veterans like Kate Winslet to newcomers like Hayley Atwell, no star is safe from the dreaded “loser e more weight!” command from producers and directors. Yeah but she wanted the Hollywood life so she needed to tone down her muscles. People don't seem to understand how people look in photography and on film. You can be buff, skinny, muscular, fat, whatever, anyway, on camera you look even bigger and model agencies have a certain look they want. It's not unrealistic or rude to want a certain thing for something they pay for. Modeling doesn't have to or need to exist, so the people getting paid a lot of money to do it should be happy they get a paycheck. Modeling isn't a requirement for life and if people don't want to be super slim, then, stop applying for the job! That would be the most effective way to get rid of this image Bs

Sometimes you do need them for lift. I’m a uk size 2 (US 00) and my butt is so saggy where it has no tone as it’s ‘empty’. I keep looking for control underwear, not for slimming, but for lift.

theBabyDead It does when they tell you, your to big to make it as a model or actress, don't bother trying. Especially when they weigh a whopping 105 pounds. Or your to fat, lose some weight then come back. I've heard that story from one model, I believe it was Chrissy Tiegan. You don't hear stories like this coming from the male population in the industry. And if you do it's few and far between.

nono, I hear ya, I do. It's mean and it's unrealistic standards etc... sure. Completely agree. I'm just saying, it's NOT fat shaming. It's hollywood asking for hollywood specific things. It's not people bullying or shaming someone for being fat. There's a very important difference in that. These people were never fat to begin with, hence it can't be fat shaming. Get where I'm coming from? And no, it's not fat shaming to want a thin model, it's just wanting what they think sells best, that is all.

The only somewhat reasonable one was Lily Collins because she was playing the role of an anorexic girl who went to rehab. However, even that is wrong. Anorexia is a disease and therefore even people that are overweight can be anorexic.

I'm from Belgium, and I feel like in America from what I've seen on the internet, even a lot of people can be like "Oh look at this pig" when someone is not as thin as in magazines. And they also criticize them when they are! I mean, it's insane! Here in Europe we'd encourage healthy eating habits (not eating too much, but not too few either) but, excepting immature assholes, we wouldn't be rude to someone because their body is not the magazine standard. Too thin is unhealthy as much as too much weight, there's a correct balance. I mean health is the major factor.

Aurore Bergen I'm from Spain, and being overweight is the principal cause of bullying act schools and harassment in.the street. Being bigger than a 38 (4 in USA) make you susceptible of being call names waking in.the street, bars, shops.. Female stars always loose weight the moment they became known. It's sad seeing incredible beautiful woman becoming thinner and thinner every year they are in front.of a camera.

Oh, no one should be treated this way. Actually being bigger than a 38 is not being overweight, it depends of how tall someone is. But still, it's not a reason to be rude to people who are overweight. Being (really) overweight should be a matter of health instead of beauty, and never mocked like that. Aurore Bergen I’m Caribbean and here is backwards. If you’re too slim, you’re bullied. I was slim and bullied and I hated it. It was my constitution. After turning 25 my hormones spike and I increased 60 pound. Now I’m fighting to lose some weight lol. But I’ll never be that skinny. I’m curvy.

Things like this go on and we wonder why so many young girls have eating disorders. The world is telling them to be desirable, to be beautiful, to be worth something you have to be thin. For a long time I believed those ideas, hated myself and my endocrine disease that unfortunately had major weight gain as a side effect. It's only been recently that I have learned to love myself, but I know many girls don't. They starve themselves, abuse laxatives and cut themselves while looking up to these actors as role models. In reality these actors just perpetuate the sickness in our society and aren't worthy of any adulation.

I taught at a private school and there were 5 and 6 year old girls asking me if the snacks had carbs because they were on diets! Their parents had them on Adkins and the South Beach diets for gymnastics and cheer and whatever. It was disgusting. A nanny for one of the girls actually asked me if I wanted the information to start the South Beach diet and I laughed because I could literally e Scarlet Johansson’s body double, I’m not remotely overweight. We live in a screwed up society.

In my opinion that’s child abuse. Corrupting a child’s innocence and blissful naivety is child abuse. I was diagnosed with an eating disorder at age fourteen and it’s hell on earth. And it all started because my well meaning but ignorant dad told me matter of factly that I had to lose weight if I wanted to continue to pursue high jumping (which I was competing in at the time). I was already lean and muscular. Those children are well on the way to developing an ED in their tweens and teens because their minds have been poisoned by toxic parents like that.

Juliette Kratochvil I absolutely agree. Their little bodies need fuel to grow. Teaching healthy eating habits is important but they are too young to have their diets restricted. They need healthy fats and carbs. I have 2 daughters and I could never do that to them. We eat very clean and no fast food but we make healthy carrot cake pancakes and dark chocolate oat muffins and sweet potato fries etc. there are plenty of ways to make sure they get proper nutrition without denying them food. I also don’t freak out if they have a burger and fries every once in a while at a ball game or out with friends because in moderation it’s fine. We need to teach them to be healthy and skinny doesn’t automatically mean healthy.

I don't believe anyone deserves negative weight lose remakes losing or even gaining weight should always be that persons choice the only other person besides trusted family members and trusted friend who should have a say is you doctor and maybe a physical trainer. Both pictures are from movies. It’s her with prosthetics and a fat suit in her role for Itonya. That fat picture is from around 2016 and the skinny thumbnail is from the 2014 Focus movie.

Jennifer Lawrence is a big disappointment, and she is that kind of person who is a negative influence in the feminist movement, because of her hypocrite attitude. She should have shut up; instead she said she wouldn't compromise and then she actually did compromise. What a disappointment

I don't understand, "Hollywood is demanding that you lose weight." Hollywood who? Why not just name the people at the studio or agents or whoever making these demands. Saying that "Hollywood wants me to lose weight", keeps whoever is making these demands in the dark and free to keep making them.

Acting has been a passion of mine since I was younger. I actually developed anorexia due to acting and ballet when I was a teen. Then I recovered and gained weight from birth control. My director told me I could never play thin roles in front of my entire theatre class. Now I’ve been doing Keto, lost 74 pounds with 120 more to go just to be able to fit Hollywood’s Standards when I audition. The body stigma is shit. People don’t want to see ONLY sickly thin, they want to see thick, thin, curves, things that RELATE to them, men too. It breaks my heart.

I like that a lot of celebrities are celebrating the thick version of their bodies. I think it sucks that women go through this but I also feel like it's women who attack other women the most about their looks. So until we can all agree this socially acceptable conversation about women's bodies is complete bullshit, it will always continue.

Brideshead Revisited begins at 6:37. It's pronounced Brides Head, and Gigi didn't have massive thighs or a lot of muscle. She was just athletic.... E. ChantonsLamour You have no clue what I look like. I don’t feel a need to defend myself either. In my eyes I believe the women that are already healthy and beautiful, should not be told to be more so. That’s why women feel so down about their bodies and end up analyzing themselves all their lives. All women are beautiful no matter what size and Hollywood needs to get on board with that. It’s about the talent, not the bod IMO. Anyone can look hot but if they can’t keep your attention with their acting, what’s the point? To say Hollywood is real is laughable at this point. One of the things I love of Hayley Atwell is that she has a type of body I can relate to (though I'm a bit bigger). She has breast! A not so tiny tiny waist and killer hips... Yes, she's fat for Stupidwood but I guess I'm not alone when I feel this girl is representing me. In Captain America she's strong, determined and the one kissing Chris Ev...Steve Rogers. On Agent Carter she break the society rules, punch the bad guys and risks her life more than once. Really disappointed that it was not renewed for a third season. So yes, I love er because she's so talented that was able to get main roles and not just be the main character chubby girlfriend.

That's true I haven't looked at a scale in years and I like my body size cause u don't see a number you see insecurities when you think of 100 lbs or 140, 130, 120, 150,160 etc we think of those as heavy but as a 5'7 women if I'm mostly muscle I'll way more then if I'm just skin and fat but still very thin because muscle weighs more than fat work your body how you like it not how others look because we're all so very different and you are all gorgeous ! Gorgeous Darling gorgeous lol

I love my body and the weight I gained. I was always a thin girl, but after a couple of scary health issues my weight plummeted to an unhealthy weight, so now I'm taking medicine to help me gain weight and help me sleep ( I'm a night owl) hopefully this will help inspire people who are struggling to get help. And for everyone, remember to always love your body and keep it healthy and to not be afraid to sneak in some junk food here and there to it balanced.

As a musical theatre student, fatshaming is one of the top reasons as to why I probably won't continue studying acting or look for jobs within the industry. I think acting is great fun, especially with the singing and the dancing as well, and if I could do that for a living then I would. But even with non-actress measures, I'm chubby. No way would I be able to make a career withouth losing a ton of weight. Had there been legit reasons as to why I should do that (such as playing a ballerina or something) then that would be excusable, but no way in hell will I lose weight for the sake of losing weight and fitting into some other person's standard. Take it or leave it.
