You may notice this compilation of top 10 step sequence is all taken from only 2 major international competitions that last season was allowed to hold: World Championships 2021 in 🇸🇪 Sweden & World Team Trophy 2021 in 🇯🇵 Japan. Another reason being domestic comps usually have crazy GOE inflation 😌 and yes I heard you guys in the comments.
💢 keep in mind that all step sequences compiled in this video are rated at level 4

Satoko puts attentention and detail to her choreography. I obsess with her flick of fingers or small leg kicks that are on the beat of the music. Everything has meaning and she does it so well.

I wish that you'd use the original music to each step sequence because stsq without its music is kinda difficult to enjoy and to compare from one to another. One the main aspect of a great stsq is whether if it's choreographed to the music or not. Anyway, I think the top 10 are deserved, except for Anna's position which in my opinion is too high. Her stsq does not belong in the top 3 because she does not have the skating skills and deep edges to carry through a great stsq.

totally agree with you!! nothing beats the vibe of original music that skaters skate to 😊 and that was my initial plan for all content on my channel as well, but reason being is to avoid music copyright claims on youtube, thanks for understanding
@yohanes2034
@yohanes2034 2 жыл бұрын
@@SkateInsider yes it's a shame about copyright claim. I watched all your jump compilation videos (those videos do not use original music too) and I still thoroughly enjoyed them all. On the contrary, when I watched this stsq video I felt a bit bored and skipped some of them. It shows how strongly connected a stsq with its music. Nevertheless keep them coming! This off season has been difficult, so little FS contents in youtube : )

Watching Anna right after Rika made it more obvious how much she lacks in skating skills. She is a very emotive skater and has some pretty lines but her movement on ice is very slow compared to the rest of the list. And without the music, which I think is one of her stronger points, it looks more dull than it actually is. This also made me realize how much better Nathan’s skating skills are. I never thought I would say this about Nathan because his stiff knees always make me cringe but he’s actually faster and smoother than Anna. They both got higher than what they deserv imo but Nathan’s score is more reasonable tbh.

I think the speed has to do with the fact that Anna’s step sequence is at the very beginning of the program where she doesn’t have high speed yet. But if you look at the elements, musicality & beauty overall I think she’s way ahead of Rika
@rosevaliant
@rosevaliant 2 жыл бұрын
@@anastasiatoday5686 what do you mean at the very beginning of the program? On the contrary, this is her SP and the step sequence is after all of the jumps, near the end of the program. The timing of the stsq doesn’t really matter anyways if a skater has good skating skills. Also beauty is not an element in the scoring of a program. That’s a misconception among casual fans who think Russians have better artistry just because they are pretty. The elements for PCS are skating skills, transition, composition, interpretation of music and performance. Anna has good musicality as you said and I also mentioned in my first comment, and all Eteri girls have complex transitions, so I’ll give it to her too. But the rest she’s not any better than Rika. Rika obviously has better skating skills, and she always has original and fun choreos. Her SP in this video is much better than Anna’s for example. Also Rika’s body movements are usuallu rhymed with the music too if you look at anywhere other than her face. So no, Anna is not way ahead of Rika, not at all.

Love Nathan's the most. I've always loved his step sequences, especially the ones from his SPs. So good! Look at the way his skates effortlessly _caress_ the ice. There's great flow and control through all the complicated turns, and the steps are seamless and clean with some really wonderful edges. Smooth and even sensual, I get feelings from just watching his feet. The way he moves really matches the style of his music too.

I get a random idea that i would love to see Nathan Chen interpret a tango, his body movements seem like it would fit him and he'd be the epitome of sensuality with that. With Anna, it's interesting, even though i had the feeling this step sequenxe wasn't as flashy as the others, she still looks like the absolute ballerina and has smth special. (Yuzu is still my fave though, absolutely killed me with that rock number at the start of the yr)

The only thing I wish is that we could stretch back a bit further and include such incredibly dynamic and fiery StSq's like those of Yagudin (2002 Olympics SP -- simply breathtaking), Plushenko, etc. I suppose it's just a testament to how much figure skating has evolved over these past decades. Such a great list! Although tbh, if this were a list of best step sequence of all time, I have to say Mao Asada wins that award. She’s the perfect blend of the old judging system and the newer one. Plus as a former senior level competitive figure skater in the US, I’ve tried to do her step sequences and it’s hard… requires balance and flexibility and grace and athleticism. She needs to do a master class on how to do the perfect step sequence for todays and future skaters imo to help time improve their component scores 🤷🏽‍♂️

Simplicity and shallow edges? Disagree big time. It's as if you're watching a completely different skater from what the judges and I are watching. Jason's had some creative elements behind it, but, it doesn't seem to me like all the different elements have a direction or that everything is seamlessly connected. I get the sense that it's a lot of random stuff just all meshed together? A bit chaotic, IMO. I enjoyed his usage of edges though.

i did not like it, but i don't think your assumption is correct. i realize that sometimes having difficult jumps can positively influence pcs scoring; however, it has nothing to do with stsq scoring. stsq has its own criteria for judging.

OR maybe his step sequence is actually really amazing because his footwork has some complicated sequences and turns, great speed, wonderful edges, nice flow, and is done cleanly and effortlessly? Sorry that you did not see what myself or the judges saw. As much as you want to assume it's because of his wonderful quads, it's not. Nathan's step sequences, especially in his SPs, have always been _amazing._ Now Yuzuru's...that was very meh and maybe even over-scored. His entire program was meh, if I'm being honest. There have been more inspiring SPs from him.

@@divinearia1601 no yuzuru has some brilliant interpretation. But I assume that's not related to Step sequence. That would be pcs. Although the judges tend to inflate both depending on quads which is actually wrong.
