Some years ago I let my standards slip. I gained weight and so much frumpiness . One day I looked in the mirror and didn't recognise myself. I decided to take action, I started to go jogging every day and meditate, I was struggling but I found Marie Anne Lecoeur and she helped me to see I was worth the effort. Since I had some serious scare but my style was already better and it helped me even more, from outside to inside. And now I only go for WOW outfit and my best smile. So thank you.🌹

Yes looking your best makes you feel good on the inside! When I gain weight I always feel bad about myself and don’t want to get dressed. If I am afraid to put my jeans on because they are too small it’s a terrible feeling. It’s important to take care of ourselves inside and out.

All points; spot on! Long ago, when I was young, a mature, well dressed, gentleman working as a shoe salesman, said “ you can elevate any outfit with great shoes, but the wrong shoes will always let you down”. I pay no attention to trendy shoes, and just wear the best classic loafers, trainers, and ankle boots that I can afford. I get many compliments on my outfits ( even from young people), although my classic clothing is really nothing special. I believe it’s all in how you wear your outfits.

Trying to power through middle-age with a positive mindset can be hard. I have found that the less I like looking at what I am seeing in the mirror, the less I care which clothes I put on. I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago and gained a tummy I just can't seem to shift, I can't even suck it in any more. This past year I have started trying to improve my fitness, add some strength training and try to care more. It is taking a while but I am slowly seeing some results and my dress and attitude are changing for the better. I really enjoy your enthusiasm and am trying to pick up on some your style (with flat shoes!).

I'm working on Dumping the Frump in large part due to your help! I was always slender & fit but after retiring from riding & training dressage horses along with turning 50 I began to gain weight. I’ve been working from home for about 10 years. Getting rid of my business attire is when I started the frump look. However I’m done with it. Ive started making changes to up level my look including finding a great hair stylist and adopting the French chic style, which appeals to me. My goal is not to hide in Zoom calls but to turn it on and be proud of my appearance.

Hello Marie-Anne. You are so right about foundation. I see so many middle-age women who spend a fortune on something like an outfit for a wedding but they wear the wrong underwear and ruin the look. They have wasted their money because they look like a sack of potatoes leaning against a barn wall! Good supportive underwear is more important than what goes on top.

I occasionally look at photos from decades ago (here on the U.S.) when people used to dress up more and wonder how we got to the place we’re at now. Just about all I see are leggings and yoga pants. Those are fine in the right places, but not EVERWHERE.

I relocated to a new city a few months back - it's definitely more casual here as it's near cottage country . Lots of gardening to improve the large lot we have has resulted in me wearing things out in public here that I never normally would have . I just tell myself I'm blending in here - but it's really not my style . I had been wearing a red lip in recent years but there are certain looks one gets out with it in town here . This fall I'm going back to being me - a little more dressed than many women but that is my comfort level and being known as the woman with red lipstick isn't the worst thing people can say about you . I need to dump the frump before it becomes a habit .
@dreamer6943
@dreamer6943 Жыл бұрын
You totally should. It's going to be easier with you being new. People be more like "oh that's the new woman she always wears red lipstick" and so it's part of who you are, instead of like "oh why has she started wearing red lipstick now" and questioning why you've changed. Which you've totally got a right to change but there's always going to be people push against it, so best to start as you mean to go on

I finally decided to dress my age and not the age I used to be. Out went the tie dye shirts, the embroidered Mexican shirts and those shirts that were just worn to hide my body. It was very freeing and cathartic. I learned that I can bring in my favorite colors with scarves, jewelry and shoes. Classic looks great and I all in!

Thanks for the tips, much appreciated! As a former retired NYC fashion illustrator and student of the history of costume/fashion, there are some looks that do indeed make a woman look frumpy! But, it's not always about weight, it's knowing what outfits look frumpy and what don't! One of the frumpiest looks I've seen on women esp. middle age or older women are cropped pants with heavy sneakers and straw hats! And another bad look is long maxi or midi dresses like the Boho Chic look which I happen to love worn with sneakers! Sneakers kill any look if they don't look good with certain outfits esp heavy running sneakers! Slim sandals or ballet flats would look better and with cropped pants that's more like the Audrey Hepburn elegant look. She never wore those heavy sneakers with her elegant outfits! I also find any scooped out neckline with the gathers also rather frumpy for some reason! There are other better looking necklines and V neck necklines are usually very lovely looking with dangly necklaces which is all the rage these days! I have a cousin in her 60s who is on the heavy side but she knows just how to dress for her build. She always looks classy and elegant and knows how to accessorize beautifully with long scarves and interesting jewelry! One notices her great style rather than her weight!🙂👗♥

I agree completely with the "Would Jackie or Audrey wear it?" concept. You can look at their casual looks snd they always looked simple and elegant. My fashion icon are those 2 and Jennifer Aniston. Decent underwear is key! I love some nice colours! I do the neutral thing but a splash of colour can perk things up! Even just a purse or shoes! I have a little boho streak. Head to toe boho is scary but a scarf or a shirt or a fun purse! I have great booties in all sorts of colours! I don’t think I have ever been frumpy, even when my weight is higher. A young woman I know came up to me today and stopped me and told me how good I looked. It made me feel great that she did that! I was in athleisure wear as I was returning from pickleball, but I have some neat little outfits to play in. I tend to avoid shapeless stuff or sweats or bulky clothes.

Love this video.♥️ For 5 years I had to live in a town where frump was king. Every woman in that town was frumpy!!. Whenever I left the house dressed chic ,taylored & classic, I was asked by a very frumpy woman "Are you going out to sell you body to pay the rent?" I was finally able to move to another town where standards of dress were high - more my style - but by then the damage was done. Frump had crept into my wardrobe. & my life! I threw out all the frumpy clothes as soon as I moved. But today I am still struggling with my frump & trying to get back to my normal classic style.

Most libraries carry it. I highly recommend it! It may help you in your journey to get the Frump Factor out of your head. Natalia Utah P.S. I live in a tres frumpy town in Utah, but I dress like an elegant Audrey Hepburn each and every day and walk with pride in my high heels and my head held high. I refuse to let the frumps get me down, and I smile, smile, smile!! Why wouldn't I feel happy: I am singlehandedly representing the French Chic style in my town. Represent!

I hate to go anywhere unless I am dressed nice and have my hair and makeup done. My husband says it doesn’t matter , we are just going here and no one will look at you or no one will see you. He doesn’t understand that it is about how I feel about myself. I always notice what people look like and the ladies who look nice. I agree that good fitting foundations is most important! Look at yourself all the way around in a full length mirror before going out. The last couple of years, not counting lock down, I have tried to make new outfits. I used to hang matching items together. I used to wear mostly black without realizing it. Now I add color or a pop of color. There are a few trends each season that fits well with classic style. It is fun to add a trend though most of them don’t seem new!

This is one of my favourite videos from you 💖 not only for the awesome style tips but especially for your insights on the psychological triggers that can make us really devalue ourselves, like a change in life circumstances or simply unhappiness. When that happens it's easy to go into a spiral and the frump is just the tip of the iceberg. And it's essential to address the issues and emotions that led to it in the first place.

I just returned from vacation in a very hot climate. Most of my time was spent relaxing, reading and walking on the beach and I found my elastic waist shorts and a cotton tshirt were my chosen outfit for comfort. This video is spot on as now that I am home, I need to dump that lazy frump! BTW, you look so good in that red jacket and your hair like that. Thanks for helping this senior citizen learn a better way to dress!

Would you consider a video on shoes for women who cannot wear heels due to various injuries or instability? I love dresses and tailored pants but can never find flats that look good with them. Thank you. I love your videos and have recommended you to many friends.

Being an at-home mom for years brought about a slump in how I kept myself. I was so tired and busy with kids and housework, caring for elderly parents, and going through menopause. Then, just as that phase was ending, COVID hit, everyone was in lockdown, and fashion seemed irrelevant and silly to me. Now I’m working and being around people again, and I’m feeling The Frump. I don’t want to be a slave to fashion and consumerism, but I want to feel better. These videos - tastefully and respectfully done - are helping. Merci!

I love your videos, I am definitely working keeping the frump away. On a side note Marie-Anne I really like the spiky in the back hairstyle you have going on right now. I have always liked your hair, especially your attitude that it doesn’t have to be perfect but I wanted to share that I noticed and like your change up!

This was so good. About 10 years ago there was some really tough stuff happening in my life and my standards dropped badly, mostly because I was physically and mentally exhausted all the time by what was going on. Thankfully life has been a lot better in recent years and I have been making an effort to get my standards back to where they were before the bad years. You have been a great help with this, Marie Anne, and I owe you a big thank you. These days I do tend to mix my items up differently from year to year as I tend to get bored with them if I don’t and I really enjoy getting a new piece, or five, each season and working them into my wardrobe. It keeps getting dressed new and exciting.

SO glad I found your channel! I have many obstacles to wearing clothes because of health issues; yes, health issues. Because of this, bras, panties, anything that presses on my chest, waist or abdomen area makes me nauseated. However, after 8 years and your enthusiasm, I went to my closet and started afresh. It was difficult to find a size 42B bra that fit but I finally found one. After not wearing a bra for 8 years, no more sagging breasts. Basic white and black t-shirts that are made for woman. 3 new blazers. 2 pairs of jeans. A nice pair of black pants. I am on my way back to looking good. The biggest challenge is I am larger in the waist than hips or bust. And, after loosing 30 lbs., I have lots of loose skin on my upper and lower arms. I can't afford surgery so I am still experimenting to have upper arms covered without letting things flop. Thank you for your channel.

My style definitely got frumpier after I retired…I didn’t feel important anymore. But then I realized I am important and worth it. But, I still didn’t know what to wear as a stylish retiree, or how to dress for my shape, or how to choose colors, etc. There are so many bad examples and terrible advice out there! I’m so happy to have found the best. This channel has changed my life. I can’t thank Marie-Anne enough for what she does on You Tube. She makes learning to be stylish easy and fun. Dump the frump!

Thank you Marie-Anne for yet another great video . Can you please have a video about how to wear oversized shirts that can also be worn as jackets . I have few kind of tweed , Chanel like but no lining . So they look not casual because of the material , but slightly oversized for a shirt and don’t quite know how to wear them . Thank you again . 🙏🏼🌹❤️

@@MarieAnneLecoeur Sharing your videos- GOES WITHOUT SAYING- I certainly do! The moment someone says to me, "you look fantastic! Something about you has changed... I can't put my finger on it..." I say, "Marie-Anne Lecoeur biensur!" LOL I also use your expressions (and give you credit), "If it's not a waow, it's a non." I send them one of your videos immediately and it opens up an entirely different qualitative conversation! You offer such fun and healthy exercises into reaffirming ourselves, returning to ourselves and rebuilding ourselves through the paradigm of style.... I also enjoyed your cooperation with the Italian stylist; it highlighted alternative subtleties that resonate more with my culture (louder, southern Europe, many, scolding hot summer months). Once again- merci beaucoup and have a lovely weekend.

I tend to go a bit bolder with jewelry and dress as you would call too young. I'm not ready to hang it all up. I'm fine with going totally casual in some circumstances. If I'm camping or staying at a mountain resorr, Birkenstocks are my best friend. Though I tend to wear them with shorts or capris. I still dress mostly in black when others my age go for bold colors. I have a fear of ending up like Elizabeth II in colors. It is possible to look elegant in t-shirts and jeans and I tell this to as many people as possible.

That is funny, because I do that used to do . I used to wear the same pair together, not trying it with other things. Now I take time to try on my clothes in all different ways. I use Pinterest and I label it re-create and then I re-create the looks there ,with what I have in my closet. I raise my standards after Covid. I got rid of all my T-shirt tops. I am now wearing knit short sleeve tops nicer things, even if I am at home 😊

I absolutely agree with you regarding foundation! Most especially a bra that holds the girls "UP"! There is nothing attractive about having breasts knocking on your knees!!!!! Older women just don't seem to understand. I am 72 and wear a push up bra which gives me a definite youthful look. Thanks for you videos; I really enjoy them. I was born and raised in London and my mother taught me to look my best anytime I leave the house.

@@nataliamiles7109 Well, if you come to UK you will see it everywhere on a Friday night - older women squeezed in to mini-skirts with low cut vest tops - and of course you can do this when you are younger, but over 50??? I'm not sure it is really the right move - but good luck to them if they are happy I guess!
