@rohanjyothinagaram9507
@rohanjyothinagaram9507 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, as far as I know there are only two styles of emo...and it only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE
@kiburilive
@kiburilive 4 жыл бұрын
Rohan Jyothinagaram the fact that you’re trying to cage emo in proves that you don’t really know what being emo or the whole style of emo ever stood for. Music evolves, scenes evolve, if this crossbreeding and evolution never happened we’d never have any of the music we have today. Metalcore came from metal, metal came from rock, rock came from the blues and that’s just a very narrow part of music. Once you say that one type of music belongs to a certain people you’ve lost what music is about.

@TheSquareOnes 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that part was pretty painful. Even more so since math rock isn't a type of emo, it's an unrelated rock subgenre that just happens to overlap occasionally (Same with post-rock at the end). And to weigh in on the following conversation, sure math rock bands can have riffs in 4/4 (and many bands have entirely songs that are mostly, if not entirely, in 4/4) but the sole defining feature of the genre is the use of odd time signatures and other uncommon rhythmic tools. People also love to throw the term "math rock" around in places where it's not really relevant and where they don't seem to actually know what they're talking about, for example anything with a twinkly tapping riff is probably going to get the label even when it shouldn't. So it's a pretty natural reaction to cringe when you're watching a video about a completely different rock subgenre, they randomly name drop math rock and then play a 4/4 riff with no clear connection to the genre. Also, I'm not sure I'd really consider Toe a great example of a math rock band anyway since they're just as much a post-rock band as well. Admittedly I haven't listened to too much of them but if they do have long stretches of only 4/4 then I'd assume those songs would be better classified as examples of post-rock than examples of math rock. Although I've been listening to their first album while typing this up to refresh my memory of their music and during this paragraph a song went from a 7/4 riff, to a long 3/4 section then closed out in 4/4 so they're also not "entirely in a 4/4" either which also shoots down that argument.

@@ComradePilas Pop Punk samples and inspiration is true, I get behind that, and yeah most Emo Rappers are just embarrassing to even have the name emo to have attached but generally, lyrically, Lil Peep and some really really underground people have the emo part of emo rap. His album "Talk to Me When Your Sober Pt. 1 & 2" in most communities are accepted as being emo. The rest of his works are generally more rap oriented. In fact he has a few songs with emo samples. I'll give an example of lyrics, try to differentiate the Lil Peep one and the Emo one. ("I'll cry for another eyesore and Think about our first kiss by the tree And how it meant so much to me Nobody knows the me that you do Gonna take some getting used to And I think I'm getting through to you But, all that shit I put you through ain't right And I know that I'm barely ever home But I think of you on the road and she don't keep not a memory of me I used to wait in my room for a single sign from you Said, "I hate you" 'cause I knew that you would never love me too) (On the kitchen counter Exhale smoke through the screen door Watch the clock for hours Am I just tired or am I just really bored? Or am I scared That this will never work out? Well tell me am I scared? 'Cause every ten minutes a plane flies by I wonder if I'll ever get any sleep tonight And that's what I get for renting a Place just two blocks away from an airport You'd be laughing in my face if I weren't so far away but You're forced to do it over on the phone now) (My lifestyle is a form of suicide But then again everyone’s is Mine just may be faster than others The drinking, smoking, hearing from my mother That I should take much better care of myself I spend my life staring at my bedroom walls The TVs on but I don’t care In my mind it really hasn’t been that long But then reality sets in and It’s been years All alone in my room Without anything to do ) 2 Contemporary emo songs, 1 lil peep

What's the difference between twinkledaddies and midwest emo?
@owomuwu
@owomuwu 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is a difference, or at least in my experience they are used interchangeably within the emo community. Always thought the term was used ironically as a nickname for midwest emo, because the genre is characterized by its twinkly guitars. I don't know though, the emo community takes its genre labeling very seriously (r/emojerk exists for a reason), so it wouldn't surprise me if there's people out there who think there's a distinction lol.
@mohamadslamet6548
@mohamadslamet6548 4 жыл бұрын
Simply, i think midwest emo is not always put math rock in their music. And twinkly is a emo that use mathrock in their music. So twinkly can consider as midwest emo, but miswest emo not always twinkly
