This was highly informative & detailed. When suspecting an issue with fuel system in general…would the regulator be the first thing to check?

No. There are several other things that could be the problem. First check the fuse and relay for the fuel pump, then check the fuel pump itself. The intentention is to test the simplest and easily accessible components first (though some vehicles may be more accessible than others).Then systematically proceed. You do not want to waste time and/or money, and still have the problem continue. Example: There's no need to check the regulator if the fuel pump is not getting power, or maintaining the proper fuel pressure. Unfortunately, testing the fuel system components require equipment that are not common in a normal household. However, places like AutoZone, Advanced Auto, O'Reilly's, etc. have tool loaner services that with a deposit will loan cetain one-time use tools. Then, when you return the tool, you get your full deposit back. Just ensure you know how long each store's loan time is before getting the item. There are many KZfaq video that can probably guide you better in solving your issue.

1991 302 five liter HO , can a fuel regulator go so bad that it will hardly run or not even at all ? Not the ignition , runs fine on starting fluid ,,, !

My Buick Regal has a problem, I replaced it last year . Now my car runs well till you cut it off and let it set for more than 10mins. and it want start backup without waiting awhile or if you release the pressure from the Schrader valve it crankup but get gas all over your hand.

Some of the information in this video is bad. To operate properly, engines need fuel, spark, and air (assuming there are no problems with the starter). Within the first 6 seconds it says the regulator is likely the problem if there are engine related issues. However, to begin troubleshooting at the fuel pressure regulator is foolish. Example: There's no need to check the regulator if the fuel pump is not getting power, or delivering the proper fuel pressure to the regulator. The video even lists issues caused by other components that (if faulty) would affect the regulator's proper operation. There are systematic approaches to solving engine issues. KZfaq has plenty of good channels with proper advice. Please do not start with the regultor when troubleshooting engine problems. Start with the appropriate fuses and relays, then go from there.
