Few of these facts reminded me of some documentary I went through. It was regarding how Sri Lanka won the 96 world cup, How they selected a team, and what kind of struggle had to be faced by srilankan players and Lankan cricket board !

Mere papa ne movie mere sath dekhte hue ek-ek ball, ek-ek player ka batting order, who balling whom, wicket, country scenario, sab advance me commentary kar rahe the & to my surprise.... Everything he said from actual cricket 🏏 history was correct in the movie. So what I noticed is that very detailed facts have been shown in movie & there was no fictionalized things, as per my father review. I loved the movie however my father who went for a movie in theatre after ages like 3 years, he LIVED 1983 era through this movie. So, this movie actually makes sense & top notch 💯. Sadly, this movie is not making expected numbers because of Pandemic, Maharastra/Delhi NCR theatre' closure, clash with Pushpa/Spiderman & somewhat our generation's ppl didn't turned up to theatres in huge number for this cricket movie, may be Kapil's era of cricket doesn't excite them much (comparing to Dhoni & Kohli's era). Sad to see this theatre performance, even though Pusha is actually not that great movie cinematically (based on the review by Jammy TRP). This movie deserved much from it's audience.

The whole plot point of Kapil being unhappy with people's lack of expectations from India and nurturing a die-hard spirit of winning the world cup itself is the biggest disservice to history. Kapil Dev and his team were completely clueless about the outcome of the world cup and were playing more out of the love for the game and a sportsman spirit and resilience, rather than nurturing any ambition for the cup. It was more like "ab yahan aaye hi hain toh khelte hain jitna achcha ho sake utna. Aage kya hota hain dekhenge." Woh jeetne nahi, khelne aaye the. Their win was a combination of their team spirit, effort, strategy of taking the cup one game at a time and some good luck by their side. Not out of some intention or intuition of their win. So the whole "we are here to win" confidence of Kapil shown in the movie was some massive creative license. Besides that, for all Kabir Khan's rant about certain films showcasing bad politics and propaganda, he himself couldn't resist incorporating his personal biases and spin to the story. Pakistan being shown as the big-hearted enemy who refrains from bombarding the Indian regiment on the day of the final. I mean, irrespective of whether that scene is based on real events or is fictional, the Pakistan side were committing ceasefire "violations" in contravention of the Shimla Accord in any case. So they were not doing any favour by halting firing on the Indian regiment. Even in such an iconic story, Kabir Khan couldn't resist pushing his own despicable politics merely to cater to a certain audience.

My Favourite Moments from Real life 83 WC : Kirti Azad's magical ball which got Ian Botham's wicket, Kapil Dev's amazing catch at the deep end which got Madan Lal the Rockstar Viv Richards Wicket, Kapil Dev's 175/ Not Out against Zimbabwe, Sandip Patil and Srikant's decent batting at the final match which helped India to put a some what decent score on the board. Especially Sandip Patil who made 27 (29 balls) wasted least amount of balls.
