@charlesyoung743616 күн бұрын
I agree that it is a gem, but cannot help but believe it is derivative of the 1958 film "It, the Terror from Beyond Space." It's a low budget film with cheesy special effects, but the plot is remarkably similar, down to the demise of the creature. BTW, another film may have used "Alien" outtakes, including the giant pyramid and a scene showing how Captain Dallas may have been unable to see the creature that was being tracked to his location (it was sliding along under a catwalk). Look for "Galaxy of Terror" (1981).

It is. It was amazing to see this movie when i was a kid, teenager, then, in my 20's, 30's, and it still is an incredible movie well into my 40's. Better than most science fiction movies released today. It's the movie that you want to see and re-see, and that first time you saw it... ah, the first time was just out of this world, of feeling amazed by it. Talk about a well made movie... with such and incredible, perfect, production design, script, casting, the soundtrack is extraordinary and remarkable; but there's more, the editing, cinematography, photography... every professional that worked on Alien was a master at it's craft. It's a perfect movie in every level.

Same here. I was ten, at the time, and never got to see it on the big screen until its 45th anniversary showing. I was hoping it was the Director's Cut, but was happy nonetheless to finally get to see it where it belonged after waiting 45 years. (Even though I knew the film shot for shot, having watched it on everything from HBO to ABC to VHS to blu-ray, my eyes darted all over the screen, taking in as much detail as I could. The Nostromo and the Alien looked gorgeous on the big screen) Only about 5 people at the showing I caught, but, it was the first showing of the first day of its rerelease. Kinda glad, in a way. because it seems that movie theaters, lately, play their movies at a much lower volume. Glad I knew most of the dialogue by heart, because if this had been the very first time ever seeing the film at all, I wouldn't have heard three quarters of what they were saying.

It's a pity they had to drop the scene before Ripley discovers the truth, where they almost trap the Alien in the airlock only to be thwarted by Ash. Still, the pacing of the final film and the balance of build-up and tension is masterful.
@JOSH-lw2jv23 күн бұрын
At least we have the DLC *"ALIEN* *Isolation: Crew Expendable"* where Ellen Ripley, Dennis Parker, or Captain Arthur Dallas try to lure "Kane's Son" into a airlock, but something goes wrong and the lone alien gets away, knocking out the playable character. And after the character regains conciousness, we see Science Officer Ash apologized for the plan not working.

When James Cameron wrote Aliens, he absolutely must have read the cocoon scene or seen the deleted scene because what he does with the colonists is so perfectly complimentary to it, it just can’t be a coincidence

Sort of. The original book and the scene filmed (and added into the special edition) actually shows Dallas cocooned and his body beginning to mold into an egg shape, and an egg just like the ones from the Alien ship (supposedly Brett having transformed into an egg). This would allow an alien to reproduce without needing another alien or another egg from the derelict ship. It also shows why the alien captured Dallas and Brett instead of just killing them.

This is one of those "core memory" movies for me. There were a few movies, including Highlander and A New Hope where my Dad said "Sit down, watch this, you'll like it." and those movies transformed me into the nerd I am today. The odd thing about Alien is that Dad wasn't ever into horror movies, that was Mom, whom we can blame for the macabre little goth I turned into later. It was late Saturday night, about 11pm I think. They're going to bed, I'm probably 11 and they're letting me stay up till almost 2 when we had church the next morning. "Did you like it?" "Yeah that was great." "Was it scary?" "No, not really." Mom had me watching horror movies with her since I was 8, so of course I was used to jump scares and things. Unless it's Kathy Bates with a sledge hammer, I was cool. I've always loved the franchise, with Aliens being my favorite. Though I still think Resurrection was great.

Yeah, I heard that too. Apparently Ridley Scott deliberately toned down by a very large amount what they were told was going to actually happen in the scene to make it seem like it would be a lot tamer than it turned out to be because he wanted their reactions to be as natural as possible (John Hurt would have probably been the one exception among the actors, since there was probably no way to fit him with the necessary special effects gear without him having a pretty good idea of just what was going to transpire during filming), so when they seemed like the characters were shocked and horrified by what was happening on-screen, it's because they actually were!

Im glad they didnt kill off Ripley... But I do feel that a reveal of the Xeno speaking... perhaps in the comms... imitating one of the crew to lure others to a location... would have made it more terrifying...

I think that Ridley Scott brought back those flying mice in Prometheus didn’t he? It’s been so long since I watched the film, but I thought they had a flying camera drone.

Just watched Alien again yesterday, One thing I did not think of at the time is that the Facehugger must be able to secrete acid as it used it to burn through Kains helmet. Also showing that the Alien is trying to survive and not a midless killing machine is really needed IMO, I hate were something just kills for no reason. Oh btw, Lambert is not just killed...there is a reason for the hyper Orgasm sounds she makes before death.

11:18 - This scene was also in the Novelization of the movie. Yet the 'relief' concept itself wasn't there (as far as I remember)

The bear from the Annihilation movie has the creepiest mimic of a human voice.

I love the alternate ending. The beheading then the terror of the mimic and what could happen next. Kinda like the fight sequence in space too. And the corpse getting tangled snd rapping against the nostromo's windshield!!!!

Not surprising. Cats can be a-holes at times.

@@skylined5534 No insult is necessary. You know it's true about cats though.
