I would like to add some points: 11: Foreigners not being able to buy train tickets at some places. 12: certain foreigners not being allowed to buy a SIM card in India, Sweden is one of the countries that is not allowed to buy a SIM card for the phone. 13: The sensation of being unsafe almost all the time travelling as a female.
@tenor-haute-contre2 жыл бұрын
Any sources related to being a FOREIGN female ? I understand it’s hard to be a local, native looking Indian lady but for a foreigner I have never heard of anything particular (touristic scams affect both sexes).
@Melika9902 жыл бұрын
@@tenor-haute-contre I am a swedish female who travelled around India for one months in 2019 only 20 at the time. Had a hard time with males coming up to me asking questions that eventually led to them asking if i was married, always said i was and then they would leave me alone. I was always stared at and felt uncomfortable because there is not a lot of females in public places. Especially travelling alone on night trains felt very unsafe, males would stare at you.

@@uuw_ It's not just foreign girls. I'm Indian, and most of my female friends here have experienced this. Staring, approaching them to flirt, etc. It's unfortunate. When you look at it, its a very very small percentage of people who do all that. But just that much is enough to ruin the entire experience.

Having spent many years working and travelling in India I can say the culture shock is at times overwhelming. The one on your list I agree the most with is the no.1 - it is so addictive. Every time I leave I vow "that's it, NEVER again" and then within a year the urge to return is overwhelming, so I come back. It's in my soul.

India is known for it's IT tech..."Hello, I'm calling from government Microsoft certificate center. Our servers have detected your PC has been infected with virus"
@shubs35665 жыл бұрын
In all probability the software you're used to type that comment was developed in India. Some of the technology in the GE engines that power your next plane ride was developed in India. One could go on, but if you're stuck in a 1990s stereotype, it says more about your knowledge of the world than about India.
@Voidstalker1235 жыл бұрын
@@shubs3566 This still happens in 2019. Its not a stereotype. Its reality.
@shubs35665 жыл бұрын
@@Voidstalker123 Of course it does. Back office call center market was cornered by India in the 90s and early 2000s. Why should they give up billions in annual revenue from this? The Indian IT industry is worth $181 billion (2018-19), of which $137 billion is in exports, with a $44 billion domestic market. Of this, about 57% is IT Services, 22% is Engineering, R&D and software products, and of the remaining 21% of BPO (Business Process Outsourcing), only a miniscule percentage today come from the typical call centers you're talking about. About 200 Indian IT firms operate in more than 80 countries around the globe. Perhaps this is not your domain and you don't know or don't care about these things. That's exactly why you deal in 20 year old stereotypes. Hope that's clear enough for your understanding?

@@shubs3566 I think you misunderstood what I was saying. Though those call centers may not be in India, 90% of the time it's an Indian on the other side of the line. This happens all the time.

Driving in India is an adventure! Especially when you ride one of those bike carts in the most packed crowds you have ever seen, or when the taxi cab driver speeds in the wrong lane is about to crash and then turns at the last second! Dogs and Cows are sleeping in the middle of the road so you have to drive around. There is a saying in India that Traffic flows like water. Traffic jams due to rock slides, zooming up mountain roads are fun. A few times some random dude just hops on the bumper and holds on the back of the car for 30 minutes. Seeing 5 people just standing on a truck bumber while it's driving. There was another time where I saw 30 people crammed in a van and a goat just walking on the top of a the roof. It takes skill for a family 4 or 5 to ride on one motorcycle. It was also really cool seeing parking lots filled with hundreds of motor cycles since in the states you just don't see that.

So a buddy of mine went to India and he said he was shocked by the contrast between a wealthy hotel or fancy building and the loads of homeless people right outside the gates. He tried to get a cab and as he was getting in a lady asked him for money. The cab driver quickly told him that if he gives that woman any money then he can forget about riding in his car. So he denied her the dollar and got in the cab and asked the cabbie why. He said that "if you give her a dollar then a crowd of people will surround the car, asking you for money and we won't be going anywhere". To a guy like him this was very off-putting, he's the helping type and didn't enjoy being in a place where so many people needed some sort of help and he can't provide it for fear of being mobbed. It just overwhelmed him and made him feel guilty everywhere he went. Just something a close friend told me, not a place for empathetic introverts.
