@@brunoschenkman8951 most of my travels were in the Navy. I would have a short window to explore an area with little money or a clue what to do. As a American especially one from rural Kentucky it's so strange hearing about places that have been around for centuries. It's not like we don't have any historical stuff we've got a lot but it's all at most 250 years old. Even if we go to a grave yard we're amazed if it's form the civil war. But either way l love the video and the fact that you love to show the world your home. And I see why because Edinburgh is just gorgeous.

Enjoyed the tour Shaun! Some friends, my wife & I spent a few days in Edinburgh in the Spring '08. We're all history geeks and that place is loaded with it! One of our favorite places was Greyfriars Kirkyard. We had drinks and haggis fritters w/ whiskey sauce in the pub at the gateway that were just fantastic. Then there was the endearing story of "Greyfriars Bobby", so wonderful. We then visited the grave and monument of Rev. Alexander Henderson of Covenanter fame. (He was the multiple Great Grandfather of our traveling companion, Johanna.) We were guided through the cemetery by a deminunitive gentleman from the Kirk office. After finding Hendersons monument he offered to show us his ancestors marker. We agreed of course, primarily out of courtesy. That monument was a plaque up high on the side of the Kirk, it was honoring Colin Mclaurin. (I was just amazed, having studied the mathematical principles of this protege' of Sir Isaac Newton when I was in college!) It had been placed by his son and written in latin. So our "guide" explained that it made some comment about how his intellect even surpassed the bounds of death then he casually laughed and said "what rubbish!" We all just rolled laughing. What a grand memory from an amazing place... Thanks for bringing it back!

There is a public car park by the Princes Street Gardens, and a "funky" hotel about a block or so away. It felt like we were down in a little hole at the bottom of a hill. We had a room several floors up and could lie in bed looking at the castle all night as it was lit with spotlights. We thought the hotel was pricey, but the view was just amazing. That stay was a quick stopover. We had dinner after our train ride from London, and the next morning picked up our rental car for the drive to our cottage in the Highlands near Braemar.
@daviddavid98374 жыл бұрын
Our trips to Edinburgh were always whirlwind stopovers on the way to somewhere else. We made time to see Holyroodhouse Palace (closed to tours because the Duke was in town, so we stopped in the Queen's Gallery) and Edinburgh Castle (look for the pet cemetery near the top). We walked through the gardens surrounding the Scott monument. We found a pub near the hotel, and had to buy another suitcase at John Lewis next door to hold all the things we bought on the trip.

Suburban Washington DC, is home to a really great Scottish Pub called "The Royal Mile" on Vehrs Mill Rd in Wheaton, MD. It's very close to "Disneyland for Musicians"; Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center, generally referred to as "Chuck's", the largest musical instrument and amplification warehouses on the east coast. It's where the pros shop. It's been my go to music shop since the early '70s. Even if you don't play, it's like a museum of everything musical; horns, strings, stadium p/a systems, guitars, basses, amps, keyboards and yes, even BAGPIPES.
