The echo of guns is something that definitely freaked my husband out when he moved from Phoenix, AZ to southern WV. Where he lived before, gun fire was always bad. Here it just means it’s Saturday afternoon.

The number 1 best thing about living in the country is ones health it's definitely healthier for ones soul mind and spirit......and especially physcical tend to eat way better healthier food..also nature is very healing....no question in my opinion it is way better then city living...also one is more creative and self sufficient

PREACH! These are all spot on! Probably only thing I'd add to the list would be the "country" attitude. People out in the country just get things done. They aren't bothered by big city regulations and constraints. That kinda spills over into how their lives operate as well. Something needs done? Just do it. Neighbor needs something done. Help them do it. And, Neighbors are a whole different 'breed' out in the country. I've yet to meet any nosy neighbors all up in someone's business. (but was surrounded by them in the City) But, at any given moment, they'll give the shirt off their back to another neighbor that needs it.

I am 26. Even my parents and Grandparents call me old-fashioned. I hate the microwave and the dishwasher. I love building and repairing stuff. I just graduated college and am looking for some crappy office job, believing that I have no choice in today's society. My dream is to live on 5+ acres with two goats and a horse, in the countryside. I wish I chose civil engineering or carpentry, or just something that wasn't Computer Science. But, I plan on being in the office for just a few years at least, as I save up and commute to and from my near-future country home. But all I know it that I am a Country boy at heart (I call myself a "Country Boy Wanna-be" since I was born in the city and raised in the suburbs, and have yet to lift even one bale of itchy hay, or ride a tracker). I'm dreaming of leaving a cheap city society of snobs who can't look away from their phones for one minute, to simply smile at you. I won't miss the crowds and trying to impress people who don't even care about you. Everyone else my age likes "Lil Nas" and "Niki Minaj," while I listen to George Strait, Charlie Pride, Lorreta Lynn, Stevie Nicks, and Chaka Khan. I love Old Country cooking and the stores too. If I were born in another time period I'd maybe be a full-time carpenter or a cobbler. But, I'd like to learn those as hobbies. We all have to work but aren't there other options besides sitting behind a screen? Anyway. Have a nice day to anyone who reads this. :-)

We're trying to get moved to land from the suburbs - this was such a great video because it made me think about some of the things I take for granted. I've watched several videos now, and they're mostly dealing with being further from social events and pizza delivery. I welcome those changes, but dealing with my own trash disposal as a family of ten is a dose of reality I needed. And road maintenance?! More topics to research! Thanks so much!

I grew up 20 minutes from ‘big’ towns with more than a tiny market and gas station. My husband and I live right on the edge of the ‘big’ town and have for the last 7 years - I still miss living further out. Trash pick-up and fiber optic internet have recently reached my parents’ farm.

So glad I found your channel! We just moved out to the country two years ago (we don’t have as many acres as you - we only have 3 acres) in Burgaw, NC and every single thing that you mentioned is very true! We live about 35 minutes from Wilmington where I work and where Home Depot/Lowe’s are at! But you hit the head on the nail with all that you mentioned! We love the country and call our little three acres the “Hudson Family Homestead.”

Guns= What's the response time from the sheriffs dept? Water: got a well? Get a tank. Shopping: Lot's of Costco bulk items, don't want to run out of toilet paper! Dog's: If you live in the country you need a "Good Dog" protective and not one that's going to chase a deer ten miles into the forest. Generator: We lost power for twenty one days due to a snow storm, might want to fill that water tank. Wood stove, kerosene lamps, propane lanterns and extra bottles, stick matches, whiskey and coffee and some playing cards. First-aid kit: I just have a ten gallon tote with stuff we've collected over the years.

Great video! My wife and I are country bound and nothing is gonna stop us. We are in our mid 30s and have lived in the burbs in a small home for about 10 years and we are ready for the country air! We live outside of Albany in upstate NY which is basically a bunch of small cities and suburbs everywhere. Not a bad place to live and i was raised here in a suburban town with houses all built in the 50's and I wouldn't change it for the world. I have 3 brothers and we grew up right next door to a beautiful suburban park where we spent most of our time and played little league baseball there too. The wife and I bought our house only a few miles from my parents about 10 years ago and thought we would want to live here forever. BUT we want the country and my dad grew up about 30 mins from here in the country at the foot of the beautiful Heldeberg mountains and I spent so much time at grandmas house out there when I was a kid and for the last few years me and the wife are itching to find our forever country dream home out there. 2020 is the year, we will be putting our current home up for sale in the next few months and do it!!! Its only like 30 to 40 minutes from where we are now and where our parents live which is great. Out there in the country is a few small towns like you said that have a small center with shopping and a few restaurants and such. It's the perfect set up, country home with space and land but only 5 or 10 mins from town and 30 mins from the city which is exactly what we want. All the things you've mentioned are sooo true about country living but personally I'm no stranger to any of that and am fully prepared for all of it!! My dad and his siblings are all country folk and I've spent enough time out there to know. Anyway we are so pumped and cant wait for our country dreams to come true. The dogs will be pumped too when their backyard is endless!! Thanks again for the great video and spot on!!!

Hey there Tom, Just came across your channel through what i think they call the feed. Good watching this vid of you or someone who made the drastic lifestyle change explain some of the differences from their before life and still smiling about it even with some of the challenges. Those challenges you explained are really blessings that most will never get to experience. It's difficult at times but those challenges are how I would explain running in a way.....I hate running but it feels so good after you do it. Good to come across your channel bud. May all your branches become full of fruit.

Love this video. You make so many good points. It's all true... ROADS excellent point. GUNS so true... EVERYBODY. Shopping is also a great point. Gotta love that dollar store! Planning is definitely a must. We live about 1 hour and 45 min away from the nearest grocery store so it's a haul. Solar doeasnt have to be expensive we will have a video up soon, we basically eliminated the need for power by minimizing some of our appliances and only have $400 invested in solar at the current moment and survive surprisingly well. Living in the Country, you basically have to do everything and it can suck, but you gain new skills, within each problem you face; like how he mentioned the septic tanks and plumbing (which is something I now know how to fix on my own!) Although it is challenging, it will toughen you up and you become self-reliant, more humbled, patient and laid back, like this man in the video. In the city, everything is done for you, which is great, too... but it softens you up over time. That is the price that comes with living in the city. Any little thing agitates you, because you have become so reliant on feeling comfortable, so much that you want to bask in the comfort zone at all times, which is un-biologically true lol. A little bit of stress and challenge is optimal. It creates growth! Great video ❤

I was just bored and looked up "living in the country" to see someone's ideas on it. Great list btw. I'm 65 miles from nyc near Pine Island, NY. most people don't realize that there's country this close to New York City. I have 125 Acres and I'm surrounded by Farms. I don't have the distance from big cities and malls that you guys do, but almost everything else is spot-on. (Except internet, its great this close to NYC). I did live in rural Georgia near the Alabama border for a while, seems a lot more like what you're talkin about. But yeah, once you go country it's hard to go back, even with all the extra responsibilities. I have had tons of animals. Neighbors all have guns and hunt. I hear coyotes howling in my fields all the time and no one bothers you out here. I can walk out of my front lawn and not see a single light from a neighbor's house and look up at the night sky and see all the stars without a telescope. I wouldn't trade living out here for anything.

Spot on. Fireplace, septic,well, solar (on grid), check. Got em all. Luckily I do have garbage but have gone without it. A big difference vs city living is sometimes when the power goes out ... it goes out. Went 5 days snowed in with no power once. Definitely takes a lot more independence to live day to day in the country 👍👍

I guess it falls under the animal warning you presented, still, I think something should be mentioned about the bugs. My first realization about living rural are the spiders are HUGE!! I met a banana spider that was living here before I moved in. He was terrifying but claimed to know the neighbors and told me where the post office was. Thankfully, it soon decided to move and I was so very grateful since it was living next to the back door. In all seriousness, there are critters out here that are scary. When I asked the neighbor what I could do about said banana spiders he smiled and just said well, they go away in September and you don't see them again until around summer time. So.... Yeah...

We are about to have a life changing experience from the city life to the country life . (We love the wild life and outdoor stuffs ) but have only stay at a farm for a very short amount of time , but soon it will be our daily life .

I've always dreamt of living in the country, BUT I don't know how people can live sooo far away from a hospital. Not saying you do, but i have a cousin who lives an hour and a half from the nearest hospital. That makes me nervous, esp with a small child.

I currently live in South Florida. I’m a Law Enforcement Officer but plan to retire in just a few short years. My wife and I would live to move north (Kentucky maybe) and buy some land. Possibly 10-15 acres but the truth is we don’t know the first thing about Country living. We just know we hate it here. After almost 3 decades of working the job I do, I want, no, NEED some peace and tranquillity. I believe I will find it in the Country. My fear is that I don’t even know what I don’t know yet, if that makes sense.

Great video! The wife and I live in a small town in the country (population 2200) But now with all the City-iots moving in we're outta here! We just bought a 1970's cottage deep in the woods. We do have neighbors but we are at the end of the trail and they are plenty far away. Couple things I didn't see you mention in the vid was the bugs and more importantly the coyotes and other night hunting wildlife. Can you comment on that please. Should we buy a dog?

For us, living in the country means 3 hours round trip on a boat just to get to the nearest shop that sells DIY supplies.

I live in the woods country, and there is no power lines here, I’m on septic, solar, and well water. My nearest town is 8 miles away and that’s just about enough for me, but the nearest true city is 50 miles. Also very minimal road maintenance.

I live in Vernonia Oregon out an hour from the coast and 60 miles from Portland we have a small town about 5 miles from me that has a store and a gas station and one bar and I have lots of deer that I feed all the time basically live on my property I love the trees I have Wilderness on my property I will never move back to the city either ever I do not like Portland didn't realize how much even wild animals like to be talked to when I'm feeding my dear I talked to them and they listen wait after they're done eating and chewing their cud they still listen and hang out with me pretty cool
