quit skating at 14 started again at 30 and it's been the best decision for my health/mental health that I've made in my adult life. I'm better now than i was at 14. I can't wait to skate everyday when i get home.

Same here man I took it back up as a way to keep moving on days I’m not lifting at the gym. It’s back to the basics but I think I’ll be able to progress more now that I’m a bit older. I was very ADD when I was younger and wasn’t patient at all when trying to learn how to skate but better late then never

I quit at 16 and just started back 4 months ago. Recently turned 29 one of the best decision. I’m having fun and progressing every session.

Yeah worked on my mental health a few years back and basically got myself to a state where I am more positive than ever in my whole life. I been able to learn that as well as how to basically really improve my skills in my creative career. Skateboarding is like my next big thing to learn. Might take years but I noticed when filming myself learning to ollie while rolling, while I barely have it pop up or I have a few where I fuck up and almost fall I still have a smile on my face that is genuine which is rare. I still look back to when I was 13 and learned my first shuv it. Just doing it over and over until I landed it... Then I did a second try and the trucks broke since it was a Walmart board I got as a gift lmao. I do wish I kept at it younger but I feel if I did then I wouldn't be skating now since I was not in the right mindset at the time or had the right personality traits.

Yoo first of all good job for managing your mental health and finding some peace! That’s huge. Also yes! Skateboarding is big time failing mostly when learning new things. But so gratifying, it leaves us in a pleasant state for a time!

@@liam_dawson Yeah I actually went up my first ramp yesterday after I wrote all that. Was a small one but I want to build up to the bigger ones. Took maybe 10 attempts or more of losing my balance and falling off my board twice (ankle felt it for a few hours lol) till I got the balance going up then backwards down as well as pumping at times. Was very satisfying plus the locals were hilarious and friendly. Even told me to come back since its a nice spot. Keep up the content btw! This video actually just randomly showed up on my homepage as a recommend so there must be something in the algorithm that made it show up since I been looking up a ton of tutorials on beginner stuff.

all of these i agree with. i feel like im always saying these things in one way or another to the younger homies. they think im crazy because i’ll do one trick over and over in circles for whole sessions and then are like “wow dude your getting good” after i land that one trick clean first shot in a warm up.

broke my arm bad riding bmx when I was a kid, already skate by that time but after the injury I just became very scared of trying new things in skateboard. nowadays I pretty much just skate flatground... it's hard to unlock your mind from that "trauma" and make actual progress, shows how your mind is an important piece for making progress in skateboarding

I would say the only thing I’d disagree with is that flatground is the foundation of skating as I personally thing transition is the foundation. While it isn’t where everyone should start, I think two most important/useful skills to have right at the start is knowing how to carry momentum/pumping/carving and knowing how to deal with getting airtime (whether that is by popping flatground ollies or learning to launch off a ramp). Flat ground is one of the best ways to understand the limitations of your boards dimensions and nuances; you really fall in love w your board doing flatground
@liam_dawson
@liam_dawson 8 ай бұрын
True, flat ground I kind blended in there. I really just mean flatland all types, including the banks surfskaters began finding. Transition is def the foundation id agree. Carving alone used to be huge

If you want to get precise go roll on flat. If you want to get accurate skate on the carpet literally. And if you want to get good combine the two. If you want to get gnarly go fast and get air.
