10 things to never put in a hermit crab tank will help keep your hermit crab pets happy, healthy and living their best lives. They are fairly easy and low-maintenance pets BUT there are certain things that can cause issues and harm. These 10 things are the most common EASILY AVOIDABLE issues!

We've been creating hermit crab habitats, terrariums and vivariums for decades... this [Ikea Milsbo Hermit Crab Habitat Hack in video) is our biggest hermit crab hack so far! We ONLY have Purple Pinchers because they are the most resilient of all the hermit crabs found within the pet industry. Most all of our hermit crab pets live past 20 years. We do not take them from the wild. Purple Pinchers are also known as Tree Crabs because when you see them on islands in the Florida Keys and in the Caribbean, they are found climbing all over trees and mangroves.
Our hermit crab habitats are TALL to accomodate the natural instincts of our purple pinchers to climb up, explore and forage. They are natural explorers, climbers and scavengers and CRAVE lots of stimulation, activity and a wide variety of fresh healthy foods.

The faucet water thing isn’t entirely true. If you have a well in your backyard and don’t get city water, then it’s OK, as long as there’s nothing added to the water.

Yep, agreed (well water is generally way better than municipal)! But as a generic point to others reading this that may have well water... get a $15 water tester on Amazon if you're using well water so you know what's in it. While it won't have the added chlorine, ammonia, fluoride etc like city water... it still may have contaminants (ex. chemical seepage from neighboring properties, corrosion/metals/rust from old piping etc). I've personally uses Amquel Plus for many, many years to detoxify water for hermit crabs and reef tank with great results. Overall the best water is RO Water (subject for another video!). @@hermitcrabpets Thanks 😂 always make sure to give him/her fresh food. Loves millet, berries, river shrimp and the occasional coconut. They are our second smallest but has always been the most comfortable with the biggest personality, and always does a nightly jog around the tank lol

When washing stuff for hermit crabs like food and accessories, can I wash with tap water or do I need to use dechlorified water?

Is well water fine for them bc thats what i have been using and it has no chlorine in it

Great question! Well water is normally way better than tap/faucet water because there are no added chemicals like chlorine, ammonia etc.. BUT sometimes well water has high levels of metals due to old metal pipes, so just make sure you know the quality of your well water. Traces of metals or chemicals that won't affect us humans will affect tiny hermit crabs no matter where the water comes from. Products like Amquel Plus are an easy way to neutralize and condition water if there's any doubt. Thanks for watching this video and your great question!

Its weird you had to list no garlic, onion and no sugary foods. Im confused how anyone thought those were good foods for hermit crabs? Lol

Some children feed their crabs candy and burgers etc. and parents allow it

@@isitoveryet9525 Yes, far from. I had a friend get a crab they won at a fair and she was very upset to find out what it takes to take care of it. She stopped talking to me after I told her about upkeep and everything I have for mine. I think it made her mad that I was informing her.
