Switch Sports actually was datamined 2 years ago to have Basketball and Dodgeball. Not sure why it's taken them this long to add Basketball, and there's so many sports I'd love to see them add. Wouldn't be surprised if they did a Sports Resort situation with Switch 2 eventually.

I assume Nintendo will do something more with Prime 4 in the future, as what was given at the moment would greatly appeal to existing fans, but would slightly confuse those who never played Metroid (me); many people talked about the scanning function on Reddit discussions, and I personally did not know what that was about; the reveal felt more "demonstrating" than "revealing."

i imagine making the wisdom ability may have taken a very long dev time to test and that may be why we have the same engine same artstyle, like TOTK to BOTW. some people will be pissed again for that game, i see it coming.

MP4, I think Nintendo wanted to show something, but because the Switch 2 is not announced they will not show it for real. I think it would be better to keep the hype low for now, and only for the core fans, until the Switch 2 is announced, then they can show how awesome it will be on Switch 2.

metroid was just a teaser/confirmation today - they really didn't reveal much about the game, and that last clip of the skytree and waterfall seemed disconnected...and no date range in '25...to me, they aren't quite out of the woods with that game yet - they certainly should have presented it in a stronger fashion -

5:00 - I agree there's a good chance it's cross-gen. They won't show the graphics of the new system before they officially announce it, though, so the footage is likely taken from the current Switch.

Metroid Prime 4 doesn't really need to be a Breath of the Wild where it redefined all of the conventions of Zelda and open world games. The impact should more or less be like Metroid Dread or Super Mario Bros. Wonder where it's a return to form for a series that's been dormant for a while.

If you go back to the reboot announcement of Prime 4 from 2019, and you pay attention to the wording, you will see how Nintendo views Metroid. I think they 'tried' (not very hard or well IMO) to expand it with Other M, and failed spectacularly. Then they kicked their fans while they were down with Federation Force. Metroid, as an IP is on thin ice due to these mistakes, and the decades of build-up to them. If Metroid Prime 4 is 'safe,' it's because the series has little in the way of positive momentum because they have to re-trench what people like about the series. There's almost no room for error.

Do you plan on releasing an excel sheet or website of the current forecasted predictions? It would be cool to follow along at home and track the forecasts as we hear more and more announcements in the leadup to the successor console. Also, been watching the videos for awhile man keep up the good work!

I think the pandemic affected Nintendo more than we thought. We’re finally getting games that started development post-covid. I think nintendo is going to have a lot more games for the switch 2 overall. I also think they’re going to be better quality because devs that used to only make DS games have now fully transitioned to home console development.

Metroid Prime 4 is one of the few (if not the only) "room based" game, it's an unique opportunity to push a Nintendo game to it's limit in terms of raw display of graphical power. In insight it isn't that surprising that they'll stay on the classical formula. Hopefully, they'll show more of the defining features near the release date. (I still hope for a VR support)

they made a mistake not supporting sports during the swich's life after wii sports - it's weird unless it's part of their recycling strategy where they like to let fans have some time away from/distance from games/series/genres they love, so as not to harm the ip or sales potential through over familiarity/fatigue

I honestly thought we'd get HD Remasters of Metroid Prime 2 Echoes and Prime 3 Corruption before a new trailer for Prime 4.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the switch two has some sort of backwards compatibility, or at least for these games, considering these don’t feel like games that would be released at the end of a console lifespan (Especially Metroid prime 4 and Mario party).

Xeno 2 in December 2017 was a big mistake. Smash December 2018 was probably delayed correct decision.

I think the new Basketball update to Switch Sports was in reaction to the negative sentiment surrounding the lack of content/ longevity of the game. Yes, Switch Sports has sold well but I think a lot of sales were gained from the nostalgia people had for the previous Wii Sports titles. Many fans of the Wii Sports titles felt duped by the lack of content, slow updates and gatcha style mechanics for obtaining new gear. Nintendo seems pretty self aware these days, so I think that they wanted to give us an unexpected update with Basketball to generate some positive sentiment around the series. Especially if they have plans for a future title, either on Switch 1 or 2 (which I think is highly likely).

I am literally dying to see what the development team is for the 2D Zelda. What I'm personally thinking is that it's a split team between Grezzo and EPD3, where Grezzo's members are helping majorly with asset and stylistic development to take advantage of their knowledge with Link's awakening but EPD3 is taking more of a role with the mechanics development. Admittedly, I have very little proof for this beyond ~vibes~, but with the limited info that we have at this time we can go on little else for guessing who might've been involved with this (beyond making the very safe assumption that Grezzo probably worked on this). The echo mechanic, and the specific way that they discuss it and even the way that we see some of the UI interact with it, just feels very TOTK inspired- very specifically, it feels similar to a combo of fuse and autobuild (albeit in a modified way that works better with this games environment). What I'm very curious to see in this game is if they use a modified version of anything used in TOTK, such as any elements of their physics system or design processes 'stolen' from the design of some of the zonai tech/other similar items. The timeline that I'm envisioning for this if the EPD3 Zelda team was involved with this might be a little brief, but we know that TOTK had an extended testing period, a period in time that probably freed up schedules for a lot of people not necessarily directly responsible for/involved in that part of the development window, and a group of people might have been able to work on this during that window. The fact that they would be heavily using a pre-existing game engine and drawing heavily from those art resources could cut down development time and needed resources. However, they'd also have to probably heavily rely on Grezzo's team, as I do find it impossible to imagine that a large part of the EPD3 team could be working on this for a long enough period needed for full game development (they could've brought in more people for the later part of development once TOTK was finished up though). But even if EPD3 has limited involvement in this, this game was still probably being developed in tandem with the later part of TOTK's development. I also do consider it very VERY likely that Grezzo is involved with this game in a significant capacity, as it is their game engine for Link's Awakening that is being used, that's basically a given. Anyways. Just a whole lot of rambling based on the very minimal observations of the known development timeline of TOTK vs the release window of this, and some things that might have served as inspiration. Even if I am 100% wrong, I'm still very hyped to see who's working on this- an entirely solo Grezzo game, or a Grezzo game with supervision, or a game mostly headed by EPD3, or even other options are all still exciting for lots of different reasons.

Great analysis. I believe too that NSO is the future and a really good one. After all the backlash at the NSO Expansion Pack announcement, I think they learned the lesson, but there’s room for a better job to be the done especially with a transparent roadmap and a consistent time in the month so all the customers can know exactly what they will get with some anticipation

If i remember rightly, the developer interviews revealed that the first two years of Switch Sports was a bust as they spent that time simply figuring out what they were going to do. In my mind this makes it likely that this delay caused the title to be released with fewer sports than you’d expect, said sports then being lined up for dlc, some of which they mentioned at release, basketball they clearly didn’t (probably because they couldn’t predict the game’s popularity and didn’t want to commit). Given the second half of a console’s life leans toward the expanded market i can totally see how we could be in for more sports to come later, especially given how well it’s sold. I mean, for anyone not buying into the next gen in its first year or two, these most like being of the expanded market, continuing to support the Switch’s casual-friendly titles for a couple years yet isn’t that far fetched, methinks.

14:42 I think you are absolutely right and maybe the reason is because they plan to use NSO as the link between Nintendo Switch library to its successor or something like that related to the backwards compatibility. Nintendo is far from getting all the juice from its NSO consoles library and there’s a lot of casual players hoping they bring Pokémon RBY/GSC for the service. I think the future is bright!

I will be immensely disappointed if Prime 4 isn't also a launch title for the switch 2. Metroid desperately needs a spotlight like that. I'd also like to play a game of that caliber on hardware that isn't woefully outdated

I'm not buying the idea that the Next Switch will launch in February or March. I instead suspect that 2024 may be the final year that the current Switch has all to itself, and CES 2025 is when the Next Switch will be unveiled. 2025 would then have both systems share the spotlight with the Next Switch launching towards the end of 2025. As for the late-life releases, all games from Nintendo Switch Sports onwards appear to have half an upgrade patch built-in, thus no new version needed.

There is no way the switch 2 releases in February, I don't see how there isn't stuff that disproves it. We know of two major, major switch releases coming out in 2025. Pokemon A-Z and Metroid Prime 4. These are two of their bigger franchises likely with two of their bigger budgets launching games in 2025. They are not releasing January/February. We've not even seen a real trailer for A-Z. It is very likely we'll see a September Direct that shows off once again zero news on Switch Successor and and instead fills in early 2025 with a new Fire Emblem which we know is in development, likely two Fire Emblems are currently in Development if not a 3rd spin off. We could easily see a new Kirby game also dropping these don't have long marketing windows. I think we're looking at like September 2025 as the earliest Switch Successor Window.
