My first true RPG, I randomly got this from blockbuster, and its one of my favorites of all time

This was my first ever Final Fantasy, and it has remained my favorite ever since. In fact, it's my favorite game of all time! If the remake comes true, I only hope for this: That it remains faithful to the original, but adds those boss fights that were cut. It always felt odd to me that we only fought the Earth Guardian, but not the other 3 (Well, we fought their later forms, the 4 chaos, but not their original forms)

Well, Zidane and Eiko do look like Dark Crystal characters now that you mention it.

My first FF game, and currently my third favorite. I think it was a great place to start for the series. It'll really be a shame if SE skips FF VIII though, since that one could benefit the most from a remake out of the PS1 games.

Even though I played VII first and love that game to death, FFIX remains my personal favorite. I remember literally being transported to an amazing world of magic, fantasy and great narrative when playing this game. I may play it again on PC with the Moguri Mod which looks absolutely beautiful. Cheers.

Final Fantasy IX is my favorite FF game & one of my favorite games ever. The ending made me tear up a bit, can't say that about most games I've played. But it's 25th anniversary is next year, I suspect the anime & remake will release. I really hope they get them both right.

I always found 9 to be fairly lacking. There wasn’t a whole lot to do other than follow the story. This was also the period of time Square was getting heavily into their mini games. 8 is one of my favorites because there was a good amount of optional content with rewards that were well worth going out of your way to get. I still liked 5 and 6 the best simply because the linearity dropped out in the last chapters of the game and you really got that sense of exploration and discovery with great rewards for doing so. I do like 9 and I don’t want them to change the main game too much, but I would like some optional content a bit more substantial than a card game or capturing frogs….or beating it in a certain amount of time to get the best sword.

Maybe they tried this, but I wish Square would have kept the classic turned based medieval theme going on one path, and then had another path that was more experimental. Like "FF Legacy" and "FF Beyond" or something. That way us true fans can still get new games that stayed true to the things we loved and grew up with in the series.

I have to wonder what the point of a IX remake would be. It sounds like it would end up being the same game but with 3D backgrounds and, possibly, voice acting. Which would put it somewhere between a remaster and a remake.

Great video man. I've have to agree man 9 is amazing 4 is personal favorite but 9 is incredible. I remember reading an article somewhere where Sakaguchi said before 9 became his favorite it used to be 5 because of the choices you could make with the Job system and the differnet ways you can take on the game. Seems like the team was inspired from their love of Wizardry.

it’s really an irony that the remastered version (more HD visual, altered interface) feels so much inferior to the original PS1 version, the font and interface style in the PS1 version feels really tailor-made specifically to the game and the PS1 pixelated graphic is a beauty in its own right

Final Fantasy IX really does like a finale to the main numbered entries, due to it being a love letter to the series, to the point where Hironobu Sakuguchi sees it as the Last True Final Fantasy game. Honestly, if the Final Fantasy franchise didn’t stay alive once the 6th Generation started, I would gladly say FF9 ended the series with a bang.

If Zidane's steal rate wasn't that bloody low, and we can actually control when the characters Trance, it would've been a perfect package.

Regarding the notion that it is the last "true" final fantasy, I can definitely understand that. 8 was my first FF to play, but 9 was the first one I fell in love with and beat. Having since played most of the others the feel of this game definitely feels like the culmination of the refinement of FF1-5. I wish it would be possible to make something new, with the visual fidelity of and a combat system similar to 7R, but a setting, story, tone, and soul that resembles 9. Probably not possible, but one can dream...

I remember so little of this game that I could go back and it would be like playing a new game again. I remember loving it at the time! Going to hold off and pray for a remake though. I'd love to see a remake!

This is my personal favourite entry in the series. Entirely subjective of course. Mostly based on nostalgic feelings. I was born in '90 and got the game when I was 11, way to young to fully grasp the story, but I remember so vividly spending game nights with my friend and trying to beat the bosses and laugh with Steiner in the cutscenes. The game makes me feel warm inside, takes me back to a simpler time, and don't get me started on the soundtrack... The village of Dali's soundtrack is the epitome of peace and cozyness (despite what was going on underground 😅). This game makes me feel like the food critic from Ratatouille. I will remember this game for the rest of my life. Nothing beats a cozy JRPG :)

The meaning of life is the most important thing, to me, in this game. I love the emotional depth they managed to achieve. I feel like my soul will forever be linked to everyone who took part in creating this work of art. Just a little bit.... it's wonderful.

My favourite final fantasy game with my favourite protagonist. And IMO even though I do really like Sephiroth I like Kuja more. Hope the remake is just as good as the original.

Mesmo eu não entendendo nada, pude interpretar e sentir. E, finalmente quando joguei traduzido, foi como se eu estivesse reconhecendo algo mágico. Hoje em dia eu sei ler inglês, não perfeitamente, mas, sei a maior parte. Contudo, ainda é cansativo ter que traduzir cada palavra ao ler... por isso acho importante a tradução, ainda que muitas vezes perca um pouco do sentido proposto pelo artista. Contudo, causa menos fadiga no leitor. Enfim... por esse jogo, apenas amor.

I always wanted to play this game and finally got it last year for Switch. Started playing it this year and reached by the ice cave fight 2 bosses & ofc I died so I have to start grinding so early in the game sigh. I'll get back to it later lol

Sakaguchi was pretty involved in FFX too, and so was Uematsu, and it was the last actually good entry in the series despite changing things a bit (mostly the linearity and inclusion of voice acting, but it wasn't nearly as drastic as future entries).

I've enjoyed this channel for like 3 years now and you provide a great perspective on JRPGs in general (I don't care what the other JRPG KZfaqrs say about you, I think you come up with some of the best and most creative content, and you come off as a pretty down-to-earth dude)... but guy, you're too entrenched in the whole "games are now censored by the left's political views" narrative (i.e. mentioning DEI as one of the reasons you are worried about the FFIX Anime). At that point, you are just conflating "DEI" with censorship when DEI itself is a whole 'nother thing. Is there a problem with political correctness in media? Absolutely! But to think that companies and developers are at the top prioritizing pleasing the "wokies" as opposed to just releasing games to make money is just asinine. Even companies like SweetbabyInc (or whatever the hell their name is) doesn't have the power you'd think they have and really they are just hired as consultants. At the end of the day, the developers are going to release the game that they ultimately want. If a game ends up having a lot of left-wing narrative, then it probably is because the developers themselves are of the progressive mindset. And vice-versa with right-wing (look at Bioshock series with their heavy libertarian narrative) TL;DR: It's just a waste of time to get all riled up and caught up in the toxicity of political zeitgeist. It's no reason to bring all that garbage to our favorite hobby in jRPGs. We're like in a new golden era of this genre and we should enjoy it, not politicize every single thing.

FF6 was my favorite in the series. FF9 was just okay to me. Loved Vivi but everything else was okay. FF 10 was the last one I enjoyed. Iliked the gameplay but disliked the characters. I've had a strong dislike of every new FF released since.

I just don't think this is the best FF because its battle system is all messed up.

That's why FFVII and VIII will always be overrated (worse with this shitty remake), but IX and VI will always be the best of the franchise.

FF9 is the only time ever where I had no problem with the female character cutting her hair. Zidane must've had really happy hands off-screen.
