I lived in Woodside and Astoria in the 1960s, Whitestone in the early 1970s, and Bayside in the 1980s. This means among other things that the #7 was nearly always my line. And i can tell you i no longer recognize the area around Queensboro Plaza and Long Island City in general. Its lost all the character it once had, and has become nothing but Midtown East: Over-big, over-tall and over-clogged. Hideous to the eye, and unmanageable.

The United Nations set up an apartment complex in Briarwood for its employees. So that was where we lived while my father was with the organization. It was really a pleasant part of the city to live in and I think it remains so to this day. Being a kid of course I never paid that much attention to the addressing format. Although I adhered to it when I wrote letters to relatives. Louis Armstrong had a home in Queens within a few blocks of Jamaica Avenue. 91 neighborhoods wow! That's remarkable. I tell you what I can't wait until I come back up to the city to visit again. Thank you for your videos.

For those of you who aren't from New York, there are more subway lines that run through Queens than just the 7 train. I guess the E, F, M, R, N, W, G, J, Z and A lines don't matter. And don't forget the Air Train. We have that too.

Thank you. Spoken like a a true NYer who realizes that not all native NYers come with perfect NY accents. Most love to criticize without bothering to think that perhaps even though I am a Queens native, (the borough of many immigrant families), that perhaps English was not my primary language. You are the first to realize this here in the comments. So thank you for your thoughtful consideration and your tolerance of people with immigrant backgrounds.

ALL NYC I gotchu girl. There’s constantly people trying to tell me I’m not from NY in my own comments and it’s laughable. Both my parents are immigrants to NYC with their families, and they all maintained accents. When you’re actually from here (and not living in a gentrified bubble) you get how that’s the case...ESPECIALLY in queens

The reason why Queens uses their neighborhoods name on their postal addresses instead of "Queens, NY" is because before 1898 all the neighborhoods that now make up the Borough of Queens used to be it's own Cities and Towns or part of Cities and Towns. Long Island City was actually a "City", Flushing, Queens was "The Town of Flushing", Jamaica, Queens was "The Town of Jamaica". Just like the Borough of Brooklyn used to be "The City of Brooklyn" before 1898, which is why Brooklynites still put "Brooklyn, NY" on their postal addresses.

Most tourists that come to visit New York City only see Manhattan, when the other Boroughs have so much to offer, all different and all with their respecting charm about them, I now live in Orlando, Florida but if I was to be young again I would move back to Queens in a heart beat. One of the things I miss the most about Queens is the diversity of cultures, the extensive variety of exquisite restaurants, you don't need to travel the world to experience real authentic cuisines from Eastern European countries, South America, The Caribbean Islands, as well as Italian, Greek, French, Russian, etc, you name it. Queens has it all.

I'm born in Manhattan, grew up in Queens. But I have a Bronx attitude, go figure! Hey I'm walkin' here, I'm talkin' here, fuggedaboudit. Went to grade school at P.S. 152 in Woodside, and Gwendoline N. Alleyne was the principal while I attended that school. Now the place is named after her. My brush with greatness. Also, Paul Simon was in the hospital while my older sister was a volunteer (candy striper). She invited him home for dinner, and he played "Mrs Robinson" on my guitar before it was a hit record.
