It really says something about the integrity of Willis that he really seems to give so much for this role. Because he was legally obliged to do it he could have just given the role minimal effort, but he really did not. He was brilliant.

This is the coolest movie I have ever seen. I watched it with my buddy when it first came out on DVD. He'd already seen it with his wife, and it gave him great delight when the ending blew me away. I guess he felt better about being fooled, too. We talked about it many times, and the movie gives you obvious clues the whole time he's dead, but you never notice it until the end, and you wonder how you missed it. Just an absolutely brilliant movie. Unfortunately, it's one you can only watch once, and get the effect.

It's ridiculous that so many sources even reputable ones say that the Chinese title is "He's A Ghost" when the Chinese characters clearly say "Ghost Eye". Talk about spreading misinformation and making poor Minty look bad when it is not even his fault. He probably seen IMDB trivia and a million other sites say the title was what it is not. Granted it is good that you provided thee correction.

I know people said it was pointless if you figured out the twist ahead of time, but I thought the overall film was just amazing in tone, rhythm, theme. If I could point to one shot, it would be after all the cabinets open and Toni Collette is scared but Haley Joel Osment just says he was looking for Pop-Tarts. Afterwards, you see the sweat from his handprints evaporating. Straightforward, wordless, unostentatious visual storytelling.

I can't believe it's been 20 years since the release of The Sixth Sense. Awesome movie. 99 was a huge year for movies. Due to one of the theater's screens being replaced, myself and a packed crowd got watch it on a huge IMAX screen (it wasn't shot in IMAX btw) but it added to the movie. Especially the plethora of speakers which made the sound much more impactful. 👍 thank you Minty.

Absolutely love your videos Minty! 😃👍 I was surprised to hear your view of The Kid though: The story of a man who was destroying his life, completely disconnected from his True Self/Inner Child, and his True Self returns to help him find fulfillment, reconnect, and begin to live again. And it demonstrated how children internalize as true every parental message, often manifesting as physical ailments (father telling the Kid he's killing his mother and not to cry, creating his eye twitch). Most people don't even realize that's where ailments come from. I was impressed Disney was willing to put it on film. Would love to see a video on that one! 😏👊

This film really is directed so well. Every detail is so carefully and meticulously put in to place, but are never ostentatious. Unfortunately, this film was so well crafted and we'll received that it gave Shyamalan his planet sized ego that tanked his career. I personally really like all three of his first three movies. But, man, some of his later stuff is rough.

The “Dead all along” plot has been used in quite a few movies and tv series for many decades now and like other twisty surprises has been done both shockingly brilliant or tediously obvious. One of the earliest is the 1962 cult classic Carnival of Souls, an incredible example of DIY film making with a crew of only 6 on a nano-budget of $30,000. Jacob’s Ladder (1990) is another great film that takes the eerie dreamlike quality of Carnival to a whole new level and though the characters, setting and story are quite different from The Sixth Sense yet are somehow strangely similar. Post 1999 when Shyamalan’s magnum opus was released, there have been so many films using this premise that it has become a trope.

1) I had NO IDEA Wahlberg played the guy who shot Willis’ character! 2) “Why hasn’t he been able to top it?” I think is in the eye of the beholder. I also think comparing his movies to each other is like comparing apples to oranges. Yeah, they’re both fruits, but they’re different. I know I may get blasted for this, but I LOVE The Village. I’m happy to say I never saw any previews for it and I didn’t see it in the theater, but watched it a year later And wondered why people hated it. I read something a few months ago that I think makes sense. The writer of this theory claims the movie didn’t do well because the trailer lead people to believe the movie was heading in a different direction, they went to the movie and felt misled, betrayed. Like I said, I never saw any trailers so I just enjoyed it for what it was. It’s beautiful, and it’s soundtrack is so mind-bogglingly, hauntingly, heartbreakingly gorgeous, I had to buy it for myself.

Billy Bob Thornton did something similar when he got the role of Johnny Tyler in Tombstone, except he went in the other direction and gained weight. For a character that was on screen for not even 10 minutes. That's another that I didn't recognize right away.

It makes me sad that people like to point to Signs as being where Shyamalan started to go down hill. In fact, I think that his first three movies are all classics. I think The Village is where I stopped caring for his work.

Am I the only one that honestly could tell that Bruce Willis was a ghost the entire time? I was 13 when I saw this in the theaters and about 35 mins in I was already convinced he was dead and even said it to my mom and she got EXTREMELY mad at me, because she was disecting every part of the movie moving forward to see if it made sense and about 15 mins later she's gave a funny smack to the top of my hand as I was resting it on the arm rest and said "damn you" with a slight chuckle afterwards. Then we sat, watched, and waited to see if we were correct and once it got to the last act we already knew what was gonna happen. I just remember her being upset in the car ride home but she was also impressed that I was able to determine he was dead so quickly, but I've always been a movie buff thanks to my dad and I just learned to pay attention to everything and think about why the camera shows things the way they do. So once he got shot in the beginning I was already playing it up in my head and as soon as the kid started seeing ghosts I was all in lol. Still a great movie.

The thing that always gets me is how no one ever seems to talk about the dead baseball team. There's a scene where Bruce Willis passes an entire team of little league baseball kids and each one of them is wearing a red cap. Add to that the fact that baseball is a summer sport and the time of the movie is in the late fall and you can pretty much surmise that all of those kids are dead. There's also the fact that they don't seem to have a coach walking with them. I guess he survived whatever killed the team.
@robgrossi2368
@robgrossi2368 Жыл бұрын
It’s not the ghosts who wear red, it’s the characters (and even objects, like a door) who are in the presence of ghosts who are trying to communicate. Malcom’s wife is wearing red in the final scene. It’s not overly significant, just a film/storytelling technique.

It’s a shame that people automatically know the plot twists now that it’s become such a big pop culture reference. I was a teenager when this movie was released and my friends and I went back to watch it again after having our minds blown. We wanted to see it again and look for all the clues that he was dead. This was before all the interviews so we didn’t even realize about the color red until halfway through our 2nd viewing. It was an experience; seeing this movie. I’m not sure people can have that anymore. It’s too well known.
