Yammie says that no one cares that you ride a bike, but I literally had a girl hitting on me cause I walked into the dental office with my helmet in my hand, she legit said, "Oh you ride! It's a nice day to be riding. You wanna take me on a ride? Beach and margaritas?" I'm a new rider amd didn't really know how to respond to this so I just said, "There's no beaches in Oklahoma😄"

11: Be honest to others your skill level. 99% of riders understand and are helpful. I started riding at 41, dual sports. I let people know I was a noob. Never had an issue. I was lucky after beginner bike, my budget was good enough to afford KTM's. Just let people know, yes, I have a fancy bike, but I am a novice. Now ride Harley's also. Same thing, let them know, I love riding, but I am not the guy doing 80 in the twisties. If other riders are going to give you shit, find other riders. I find the better, more experienced riders are the most accommodating. Ex pro motorcross racers, helped me the most and would hang back with me. Put your ego aside

Personally, I don't get why that obsession with "you'll never keep your first bike","you'll get bored of it" and number 10 being "think about your next motorcycle" in your first year I don't even see this as healthy knowledge. I've rode many bikes, cruisers, sports and dirt bikes, I got the A license (I live in Europe) so I can ride whatever the power a motorcycle can have, and do you know what I ride? A Honda Cb250 nighthawk, a bike that doesn't pass 140km/h and it's been my ride for 4 years, being my first bike and I don't even got started to get tired of it. Motorcycling is not about being capable of passing every car at 180km/h or doing dangerous maneuvers to keep that adrenaline rush, those are the things that kill riders, for me, riding is about freedom, enjoying the scenery, feel the wind and enjoy the ride. If you fell in love with your first bike and you enjoy it, don't let these type of KZfaqrs contaminate your mind saying you will change it because that might not be the case, even more so if you don't have a good amount of money per month. Just enjoy your ride and be happy with your bike for as long as you can and don't let anybody tell you shit like this because it's not a good way to introduce people into motorcycling
@PsychedelicStorm
@PsychedelicStorm 2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. It doesn’t make sense to me, why there are so many superficial and subjective things on this list. In fact I think there’s only one or two things that are valid for new riders. Preforming maintenance, and learning more advances maneuvering techniques. I don’t have a bike yet, but I plan on getting a beater first so I can learn to work on it and not care about dropping it at lower speeds in a parking lot. In that scenario, I do plan on getting the bike I want after I have a bit of experience but that seems reasonable. For all I know, I might fall in love with the beater I get because of the work I’ll put into it lol. Anyway, greetings from America! Stay safe out there.

After 3 months Im just starting to have fun with my bike. The bike is plenty fast and enjoyable. I don't know if in 5 years will I upgrade or sell it and call it a day. Or just keep it forever. I know someone who had a close call and said thats it, sold his bike after 1 year. U just don't know. Ride safe!

@@joeyp4196 well stated JP! I’d rather be a safe rider and ride for my life than be dead in 30 seconds due to me wanting an adrenaline rush. I’m curious about your driving system in Europe. It seems like it could help us out a lot here in the states. Still haven’t gotten my first bike yet, but I might be getting a gold wing soon (at least to practice on, but that’s another tangent). I’ve been driving my car like a bike. Over the years I’ve done this, I’ve realized there needs to be some kind of reform of our traffic laws in general. People are real blödmann. Stay safe out there talk to you later.

I'm old. I started riding minibikes as a kid. Got my first "big" bike at 17 (Honda CB750). In my 30's, a guy I worked with noticed I was still making rookie mistakes (I didn't think I was making any). He asked if he could show me a couple of things and in about 20 minutes, he changed the way I ride. When he was a young man, he was a State Trooper (I believe ND) and he had qualified as a motorman. He was also an instructor. That day changed riding for me from being a basic mode of transport and some throttle therapy to a way of life. So, I would respectfully disagree. Practicing in a parking lot is the best way to increase your skill level and that can save your life. I'm 45 now and still hit a parking lot every week just to practice. It gives you a warm up away from traffic and serves to spot potential mechanical issues before they become a major problem. It does not replace the experience you get from riding in traffic, but it helps make maneuvers second nature so you can concentrate on more important issues, like the jack ass about turn left in front of you.

Oops. Hit post by accident. Think Triumphs still nice but I can do a lot of performance and appearance mods and still take a really long trip for less than a late model Bonnie. The Interceptor especially at its price and reasonably solid design and execution looks like a solid deal. And ideally we will get two. Mine, with my wife on the pillion, and our son on the other, with camping gear strapped to the sissy bar. If I am missing some other nice set of wheels about 500-800 cc and a chunk below 500 lbs (not more than about 200 kilos) that doesn’t look weirder than the next bike please add your suggestions. Also anybody have knowledge or experience about tuning the Interceptor, especially the S&S big bore kit, exhaust, cam, or suspension please add your comments. Or perhaps you will like the idea for a YN video v

two things I will say about track day: 1 I have been riding for a decade, never been to a track day, it is not essential. 2 if you want track day fun without the track, ride around on a 300 for a half hour, then immediately hop on your liter bike. I did not know you could wheelie in a corner and not die, but apparently that is a thing

Great advice on doing some maintenance on your bike is a great call. It is a great way yo keep an eye on parts, making sure it is working properly, knowing when it isn't or something is about to go wrong. Great way to kind of bond with the bike

Great list Papa Yam. Haven't done the track day yet. Really should. Can confirm a 300 is fine for long trips. Put over 20,000 miles on mine before upgrading. Still have that n300 and it still runs like the day I got it.

Fortunately I already knew exactly what kind of bike I wanted, what kind of riding I wanted to do, and have zero interest in anything else. I got my 09 Harley Heritage because the big, slow, comfortable riding is all the appeals to me, I don't care for going fast, or doing tricks, and definitely have no interest in a track. All of your other points are spot on and great advice.
