Personally, I don't get why that obsession with "you'll never keep your first bike","you'll get bored of it" and number 10 being "think about your next motorcycle" in your first year I don't even see this as healthy knowledge. I've rode many bikes, cruisers, sports and dirt bikes, I got the A license (I live in Europe) so I can ride whatever the power a motorcycle can have, and do you know what I ride? A Honda Cb250 nighthawk, a bike that doesn't pass 140km/h and it's been my ride for 4 years, being my first bike and I don't even got started to get tired of it. Motorcycling is not about being capable of passing every car at 180km/h or doing dangerous maneuvers to keep that adrenaline rush, those are the things that kill riders, for me, riding is about freedom, enjoying the scenery, feel the wind and enjoy the ride. If you fell in love with your first bike and you enjoy it, don't let these type of KZfaqrs contaminate your mind saying you will change it because that might not be the case, even more so if you don't have a good amount of money per month. Just enjoy your ride and be happy with your bike for as long as you can and don't let anybody tell you shit like this because it's not a good way to introduce people into motorcycling
@PsychedelicStorm2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. It doesn’t make sense to me, why there are so many superficial and subjective things on this list. In fact I think there’s only one or two things that are valid for new riders. Preforming maintenance, and learning more advances maneuvering techniques. I don’t have a bike yet, but I plan on getting a beater first so I can learn to work on it and not care about dropping it at lower speeds in a parking lot. In that scenario, I do plan on getting the bike I want after I have a bit of experience but that seems reasonable. For all I know, I might fall in love with the beater I get because of the work I’ll put into it lol. Anyway, greetings from America! Stay safe out there.

@@joeyp4196 well stated JP! I’d rather be a safe rider and ride for my life than be dead in 30 seconds due to me wanting an adrenaline rush. I’m curious about your driving system in Europe. I'm old. I started riding minibikes as a kid. Got my first "big" bike at 17 (Honda CB750). In my 30's, a guy I worked with noticed I was still making rookie mistakes (I didn't think I was making any). He asked if he could show me a couple of things and in about 20 minutes, he changed the way I ride. When he was a young man, he was a State Trooper (I believe ND) and he had qualified as a motorman. He was also an instructor. That day changed riding for me from being a basic mode of transport and some throttle therapy to a way of life. So, I would respectfully disagree. Practicing in a parking lot is the best way to increase your skill level and that can save your life. I'm 45 now and still hit a parking lot every week just to practice. It gives you a warm up away from traffic and serves to spot potential mechanical issues before they become a major problem. It does not replace the experience you get from riding in traffic, but it helps make maneuvers second nature so you can concentrate on more important issues, like the jack ass about turn left in front of you.

Fortunately I already knew exactly what kind of bike I wanted, what kind of riding I wanted to do, and have zero interest in anything else. I got my 09 Harley Heritage because the big, slow, comfortable riding is all the appeals to me, I don't care for going fast, or doing tricks, and definitely have no interest in a track. All of your other points are spot on and great advice.

You can bike trip ANYTHING! My Buddy used to come visit me in New Orleans from NAS Pensacola to party for weekends on an R6! I've personally ridden an XR250 across Costa Rica no problemo.

I'm 64 and have not been on a bike in about 40 years. Only rode a couple of time then. Looking forward to buying a bike and will keep this video for reference.

$79 a YEAR for insurance?? Meanwhile, here in the UK, I've been riding with no thefts or accidents for 30 years and still pay £350 a year for my TL1000R.

I’m a relatively new rider but what urks me is how the weather doesn’t know what it wants to do. I’ve reached the point where if it’s 40% or below I ride any way and I only got rained on twice but it really wasn’t bad if you got a jacket on!

Went from Omaha Nebraska to Pike's Peak on a Zuma 125 scooter, the most memorable trip on 2 wheels I've had so far! Highly recommend an underpowered road trip, makes you have to be flexible and improvise a lot

I know you said no one cares but literally every dude I work with purchased a bike within 2 months of me buying my first ride (I’m 30yrs old). May be anecdotal but it 100% happened!

I picked up my first bike a few months ago, it was broken from factory and didn’t know so got my money back and got my second bike. I had that for a couple months and loved it until some dumb women pulled out without looking. I’m now waiting to get my third bike and I’m just hoping I can keep it without any issues 😂 be careful out there people, some people shouldn’t be on the road and unfortunately bikers gotta deal with that
