- A list and walk-through to what I consider to be an overlooked (or avoided) chapter of BABYMETAL's history. These are 10 times influential people from the Metal Industry have said not so nice things about BABYMETAL. For some of them, I tried my best to compile their thought process, evolution (or involution) and, of course, I also tried to make it fun.
This is the longest and most difficult video I've made so far. I'm expecting some backlash both for the topic of choice and for having the audacity to share my opinions publicly. But you know what? I had a blast through the whole making process. I'm satisfied 🌟

Before you attack me over Rob Halford, I suggest you finish the video first. Many people are missing the point of this video and coming after the people listed. I can't do anything about that other than expressing my disappointment. There's another thing people seem to be misinterpreting, but I can clarify: I never stated BABYMETAL isn't metal. I'm fully aware that they are metal af, which is what got me into them in the first place. I even shared a picture of them listed among the best 10 metal bands of all times. What I REALLY meant was that I can understand why other people may think they aren't metal and why we shouldn't get offended by it. Because they aren't JUST metal, they are much more than that single label. The snippet from FUTURE METAL wasn't used to back up the idea that they aren't metal, but that they are their own thing and striving to create their very own genre. A genre that isn't limited to just Heavy Metal. Will this pinned comment stop people from making assumptions and attacking? Nope. But I still want to try 🤣

Great your daughter is into them. I seen a lot of guys your age bonding with their daughters at Babymetal concerts and it warms the heart. Same here man. Not a big fan of their earlier stuff without a real band onstage, but once they got a live band, that changed everything. Mikio Fujioka was one of my favorite guitarists, and he was one of the first to play with them, but he tragically died a few years ago. They have absolutely top notch world class musicians, the songs are meteoric, and they have an unparalleled stage show. Nobody else does it that good.

Having seen them live and having a great time at their show, I still think some of their popularity is undeserved within the metal space. They probably have one of the best backing band, and if it weren't for them, these girls would be no different from Pussycat dolls and Nicole Scherzinger is easily a much better singer than Su-metal. So I completely understand the frustration of other Japanese bands like Crossfaith.

Nothing Andy Copping said even made sense. He books guys festival based on what he thinks will sell tickets, but then he says it's based on his personal feelings. Then he said the audience was more excited for Babymetal than Dragonforce and he thought this was a reason to not book them? He was just being a snob. It is good to see he eventually did the smart thing and booked an act people would buy tickets to see.

As for the David Reece comments on BABYMETAL “hurting” metal, they just never looked at the possibilities it could bring. What they thought of was “copy cats” arise and essentially destroy the genre but if they did some digging and a little bit of research, they would know that the music industry in Asia (especially in South Korea and Japan) you will get SLAUGHTERED if you do anything remotely similar to an already established artist. So copy cats are not rewarded. However, the results bore fruits that these guys didn’t have the hindsight to comprehend. BABYMETAL is a bridge. A lot of people who love BABYMETAL who are not metal heads, ended up discovering more bands like BMTH, Sabaton, Judas Priest, Metallica (who are BMs favorite band), Arch Enemy, and so much more. Also, westerners who discovered BABYMETAL were introduced to the Japanese metal scene. They’ve become fans of X Japan, Hanabie, BAND MAID, LOVEBITES, and a lot more. Also let’s not forget the significance of the fact that it also started a huge spike in numbers of Female bands and the rise in female metal fans too. I see it as a net positive for metal.

The only one that really upsets me is Fred Durst. The fact that he was making sexual comments about underage girls is sickening. And people let him get away with it because what? it's cool... No, it's just gross. It's funny that people seem to hate Japanese Idols because of the parasocial correlations the industry pushes on us but for some reason those same people are ok with Korean Idols. The whole idea that Amuse is using Su, Yui, Moa, and Momoko as parasocial clickbait it asinine. They (Amuse and Koba) have done everything possible to keep the girls protected from that type of stuff. If they weren't, then all 4 girls would have more of a social media presence.

Look at how (mostly) Korean idol groups, and western female artists present themselves on stage, either half naked with only a thin top and denim shorts (very very short) or/and skin-tight suits that are cameltoe bait. If you really are a singer/musician/dancer, why do you show up on stage as if that was your first step towards an onlyfans career? I can't imagine Sharleen Spiteri, Enya, Susanna Hoffs, Ann Wilson, and many other GREAT female singers showing up dressed as wh0r3s, because each in their time, had/have true talent and skill. ❤ Babymetal has always been the opposite of that, all covered up to the neck, skirts down to half the tight, being sexy was never the selling point.

_"It's funny that people seem to hate Japanese Idols because of the parasocial correlations the industry pushes on us but for some reason those same people are ok with Korean Idols."_ I think one of the reasons is that Korean idols seem a bit older in general and appeal to girls their age, while most people believe (wrongly of course) that Japanese idols are automatically 12 year old kids oversexualized by cynic corporations to appeal to 50 year old perverts, the West is just absolutely clueless about the Japanese idol scene while the Korean scene is spreading worldwide.
@riffgroove

@TheLeomarti "Japanese Idols are automatically 12 year old kids oversexualized by cynic corporations to appeal to 50 year old perverts." That generalization isn't incorrect. The first time I watched the video for AKB48's "Heavy Rotation" I knew right away this wasn't for me. Go to an Idol concert in Japan and take a good look at who is in the audience. In Japan, a 17 year-old Idol is considered "old." Kyoko Mikyake did an excellent documentary called "Tokyo Idols," and she's not very welcome in Japan after it premiered. The Idol industry is Japan's dirty little secret that is right out in the open, yet nobody wants to talk about.

It is not the typical metal band of three greasy guys who started in one of their parents' garage and their only attraction is to be as random or controversial as possible. I just saw BabyMetal with DethKlok, and they were great. I went to see Dethklok, but BabyMetal was very enjoyable. The music was great, the young ladies were fantastic, and overall it was a great show. The vocals could have been a bit higher in the mix and the beer could have been less expensive, but otherwise, I had a fun night.

I read an article from live wire about the top 10 albums that were only remembered for their cover. They go on to claim that The album Devine Intervention was Slayer's biggest flop, but was remembered for the album art. I was shocked, because I knew that couldn't be true. Took me 5 mins to search the album revenues. Divine Intervention was their second highest grossing album in their catalog, second only to South of Heaven. Beating out Seasons in the Abyss a close 3rd. My point being, that Live Wire contributors are supposed to be experts. Clearly, not... BTW, I'm a new sub and would like to compliment the creator on the pace and continuity, entertainment quality, research, editing, etc.. is top notch. ''Thank you. " You have new fan.

Going to see these ladies in a week and am sooo EXCITED! They may be Metal, they may be not, but it is an experience I want to see LIVE at least once. BabyMetal is their own genre and are allowed to call it anything they want. Yes, at first I thought they seemed like Alvin and the Chipmunks on RedBull 😂 but it’s so entertaining that I don’t want to miss a chance to say I saw them LIVE. ❤🤘

Interesting that the only people that have been negative about Babymetal are people that desperately need publicity. More likely they are all jealous that young girls are far more successful than they could hope to be. Me, being an actual metal guy, can say that BM rocks the house and they are a perfect PERFECT side dish when you just need something different.

So happy to see Babymetal grow and destroy all these early perceptions of the band and the girls, its been a fascinating journey watching the transformation and see them destroy old stereotypes and become a legendary band in their own genre. and metal world. so happy their success has proven the haters wrong.

Some people are just not open minded when it comes to music that they find it weird. I hear some metal bands, not all. Everybody have their own preference. Babymetal opened my mind that there are more genres of metal and the way they do it is unique and some close to home. And i love it

I always thought those grown mean with beard trying to maintain their edgy metal aesthetic by harassing these girls in an attempt to discourage them from the genre was funny. I'm glad even cyberpunk 2077 threw shad on them by portraying the whole situation with Kerry and the Undercracks.

It's not new, musicians have tried and experimented. Like on band who shreded a loudspeaker to get a new sound. It's the people who make start's to star's. Without Fan's , Limp bizcit and other band's wouldn't even been known yet :P And as always , generaly speaking, new things scares people. Go Babymetal ^_^ Keep on playing :)

I was really a bit confused at the end of the Rob Halford bit, I was like 50-60, are you joking or not showing anything. Rob imo is a Metal Grandmaster and their collaboration is new to me. I think I got a nice idea and really loved the soothing approach of your video. I got into babymetal a few days ago and my 2yr old daughter really likes the chokolate, I DID NOT think I could get her into metal this early. There have been Pharrel Williams and The Scarface Theme, but getting Chokolate into my babygirl's menu, I fell very wholesome as a dad. Thank you for making it, I got a little better with the lore and will continue to advance this topic. Subscribed, best yo yall!

This is a well made video. All I can say about Babymetal is that they brought innocence and fun back to metal and along the way metal music seemed to be missing that. Su's vocals is not a joke and the mighty Kami band is outstanding. And it's because of Babymetal I discovered Dreamcatcher, Rolling Quartz and Scandal. So, as far as our little metal sisters are concerned, Babymetal Rocks! I want to add a bit about Dreamcatcher, they are known as the Dark Angels of Kpop, they have totally changed the landscape of Kpop and that's freaking brilliant. 🤘🥰🤘

You have once again outdone yourself Miss Omajination. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite reactors to Babymetal.. right up there with Prof. Hartley, Chase Carneson and that one prog rock guy, who was not a fan of Babymetal but praised their special talent to command a massive audience. Plus. he was really blown away by both the musicality of TOTD and the ladies live performance... that was a prime example of not liking somethin without being dismissive or worse, disrespectful. Anyhow, please keep up the great work young Miss, we are always eager to watch your videos. WA - HA - HAHA 😂😂😂

I was pissed off at Benji Webb. At the time, I was still on a minor BABYMETAL hate trip as I'd only seen a couple of very early videos and I wrote the act off as a shallow gimmick. I changed my mind completely when I eventually saw the MV for 'Karate' and I realised my initial reaction was way premature. Anyway, even though I had no interest in BABYMETAL at that time, I just thought Benji was a complete asshole. I like a lot of Skindred's songs but the guy just showed how fucking disrespectful he is to other performers, particularly those for whom English is a foreign language. Not racist? Maybe, but you'd think he'd at least understand why people saw it that way. Nah, rude af for no reason. For the record, so long as BABYMETAL has the Kami Band they are metal af.

Aloha @Omajination! I want to say, I like your videos. And I watched this one completely. But I don't want to click the like button. I believe the quality was great, even the topic is worthy. But in this world, doing anything public makes you a target for haters. And the only way to make it through is to ignore the hate and just keep moving on. I feel like this video gave me.... targets to hate. Who should I hate because they were mean to Babymetal? Actually I don't want to hate anyone, but I'll remember their actions. Will there be a follow up if any of these people changed their minds or apologized like Benji did? Anyway, thank you for your efforts on this video. I liked it, but I don't want to. I look forward to more of your work :)

Excellent video. Thank you for the time and effort put in to this work. I found it humorous and informative. There's two sides to the story at Sonisphere 2014. One side says there was a cancelation so Babymetal got moved to the main stage to help promote them. The other side of the story (the one I personally believe) was to move Babymetal to the main stage to destroy them. The girls were really nervous because the reputation of the Sonisphere crowd to throw bottles and other things at bands they didn't like. And here are three little Japanese teens trying to bring something new and different to a bunch of drunk metalheads. Fortunately, we all know how it turned out. However, I do believe the intention was for Babymetal to fail, be boo'd and rushed off stage, and disappear. The organizers were hoping for humiliation but turned it to celebration when the crowd went crazy for Babymetal. From my understanding, every shred of Babymetal merchandise was sold out by the end. It was a great catalyst for Babymetal's future.

As a old metal man who watched metal be invented and progress and change over time. I can say I love babymetal ,its fun its way cool and I look at the girls like my nieces or step kids . I support them and take my hats off to them they work hard and care about their fans .and put on one hell of a show. Someday I'd like to catch them live to see how good they sound live and in concert. Those kids are doing it the right way and give metal its props in what they do. I think most of the detractors are just jealous .and will disappear ti the void while they will be remembered for just having a good time and being something different and just plain a great band to enjoy . If you can't your to old and set in thought . There's room for anyone in metal and the fans have spoken . So crawl back to irrelevance as this band continues to reach audiences that proved the doubters wrong again . Fight the good fight girls stay the course and keep it coming wasshoi wasshoi wasshoi wasshoi wasshoi wasshoi!
