Movie tie-in video games have gotten themselves a bit of a bad name over the years, as there have been a great many released that are an embarrassment to their source material. Oftentimes, this is purely because the developer is in a rush to churn out something that can release alongside a film, so that everyone gets to cash in on all of that sweet hype money. Every so often, however, there comes a video game that’s better than the movie that has inspired it, either because the film turned out to be ploppers or just because the developer has actually put in a good amount of time and effort and produced a title that’s properly praiseworthy. For this list, we’re looking at exactly those kinds of games, the ones that disproved the naysayers, and went on to be better received by critics and audiences than their silver screen counterparts. The Mummy Demastered is a good example of this. the movie has a 16% on rotten tomatoes, while the game has a 75% on metacritic.

The warriors, a rare adaptation that was made for love of the source material rather than a cash grab, not only a fun recreation of the movie but also provides a prequel to the movie

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was such a great game. The healing mechanic, the brutal violence / gore, and an awesome Sentinel fight were pitch-perfect.

King Kong got me a free copy of Contra. Once Old Spice ran a contest where you won stuff based on how much you could increase your Xbox gamescore in a month. The top prize was the XBL Arcade version of Contra for 1000 gamescore. Rented King Kong and beat it over the weekend which was all you had to do to earn that sweet full 1000 points.

I wish they would bring back the Goldeneye-style difficulty levels, with more objectives, it gave the game loads of replayability

Although Phantom Menace will obviously never reach the heights of Empire Strikes Back or Last Jedi it's certainly not down there with the Holiday Special or Rise of Skywalker

Going to see Van Helsing and seeing THAT CGI on a huge screen is one of my most memorable movie moments. It was so goddamn bad.

Uh... y'all, Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was a tie-in for, well, Chronicles of Riddick. It released alongside that film, not Pitch Black. It's also a much worse film and would have proved your point much more eloquently.

There's a bad movie called Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever. The GBA game got better reviews (it was based off an older and apparently better version of the script).
