This is very helpful with an adhd/pmdd combo. I feel absolutely miserable right now because I just can't get it together like I could last week. Night and day mindsets pretty much. Gotta take baby steps each day and tell myself frequently I'm not defective.

I do music as a hobby. In my most productive time I had 2-3 rehearsals with a motivated band; everyone added their own parts together, I was extremely motivated as a result. Now I mostly work alone and songs never get finished. External factors, good words, common goal, the feeling of helping each other and regular feedback can be extremely motivating.

This is such an rewarding video I`ve learned and related more to this 26min video than I`ve ever learned from getting help of others in my 23years of life. When you mentioned the part of upbringing and the low confidence it gives I started to cry, because that is exactly how I feel. I got am a man, and got late diagnosis for about three months ago and are finally starting to get the help I need. It is like starting on zero and being born again, the difference is that you are on your own as a 23 year old versus a new born/child. Everything is extremely hard, but I am slowly starting to get at peace with my self and this video was a great begining on my journey.

What does the help consist of?
@PkinJourne

@@Sephlock primarily medication. It helps tremendously. But also help to get a job from the system. Help with easing into jobs and generally when I know my problem it's easier for me to find solutions to get by day to day. Recently I got anxiety, because my whole left side have sticking sensation. The meds work perfect mentally. I am more relaxed, see things clearer, not foggy. But I am worried for my heart, so going to talk to my doctor. Because I also suffer from anxiety and I think the anxiety makes me believe it's worse than it is, but don't know until I've talked to the doctor. Vyvanse is known to take a toll on the heart, because it is a very strong stimulant (amphetamines). But it is really annoying, because everything that works, give side effects that damages the body and it makes me really angry right now. I take allot of nicotine pouches and drink allot of coffee too. So maybe I should drop the nicotine and coffeine and see if I feel better on the medication. If not I have to change to something else or a lower dose.

@@Sephlock Today I literally told god that I am ready to die, just take me. I am not even scared anymore, just end it have nothing to lose. 😂Had a full on panick attack and I generally have a drug problem. I don't see any point in life and if I die let me die, but again it's not that simple. In most cases you do not die. You just suffer more from implications 😅. And that makes me concerned for my health constantly, but again my head just says it feels amazing and everything works with drugs, so why stop it and keep on suffering mentally. So yeah, life is exhausting. I want to live, but allot of times I wonder if it's worth it. It just comes with so much pain and when you not in pain, you just distract yourself to get by. And everything eventually get extremely boring, you get weaker by the years and then you die in the end regardless only you have to push through for a longer time. Honestly just want to die in my sleep without any pain. Just sleep in. I pray allot of times for god to not wake me up the next day, even when I don't believe in religion. So yeah medication works. 😂 It has worn of now, so going to go to sleep now. And sorry for the rant. Felt like writing something, so I did. But ye medication works, but the side effects can be bad. So have to try different things and talk to your doctor for an overall assessment of your health.

With due respect to your amazing job... We don't lack MOTIVATION, we lack self emotional regulation, fear of underachieving, disgrace and disappointments in ourselves. The best solution for us is to have a life coach, assistant or a maid. Someone to help reduce responsibilities. In fact, I believe we ADDs are over motivated, we want to do a lot that's why we are distracted most of the time.

Self-regulation can be learned, if from a different method, and the mind can grow a stronger sense of self-awareness and metacognition OVER TIME. Yes, scaffolding and sincere patience from others is required. But those support people are rare.

Love this helpful content! Will you also talk about the lesser known struggles that can come with ADHD? Like time blindness and intrusive sleep? I feel like there's a lot of content and strategies for focusing and with motivation, which is great! But so few people even mention these other difficult to navigate symptoms. I know maybe not everyone with ADHD has them, but many do. Intrusive sleep can even be dangerous and is probably the least known or talked about thing that can come with having ADHD.

Thank you I find this very helpful because often times lack motivation to get up and do something even if it’s important, and that many people have expectations of me as an adult, to be the adult in the room, at a job etc, but they forget that I have ADHD I’m trying so hard and often get disappointed in myself for not being successful at even the most mundane things. I also have 4 kids with adhd..

You’re most welcome. It's completely normal to feel disappointed in yourself when you struggle with tasks that seem simple to others. This is a common experience for individuals with ADHD due to the unique challenges the condition presents. ADHD can make it difficult to focus and pay attention to detail, especially for extended periods of time. This can be particularly challenging when the task at hand is not something you're interested in. When you start losing focus, you might get frustrated, which can turn into anger and irritability with yourself. This sets off the stress response system, making it even more difficult to focus, and can lead to a downward spiral of negative feelings. Moreover, people with ADHD often have difficulty with organization and planning. This can make it hard to complete tasks, especially complex ones, which can lead to feelings of ineffectiveness and disappointment. However, it's important to remember that these challenges are not a reflection of your worth or abilities. They are simply symptoms of ADHD. There are strategies you can use to manage these symptoms, such as breaking tasks down into smaller parts, working during your peak times, and rewarding yourself when you complete parts of a task. It's also crucial to practice self-compassion. Recognize that you're doing the best you can with the tools you have, and it's okay if you can't do everything perfectly. Embrace the good with the bad, and when you make a mistake, see it as an opportunity to learn and grow. Remember, everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, and everyone faces their own challenges. You're not alone in your struggles, and it's okay to ask for help when you need it. Here is the video on developing self compassion: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kLN6fM523bfJepc.htmlsi=_VoGslG3cNuFiFe4 Also, here are more videos on ADHD: Other videos you might be interested in can be found at kzfaq.infosearch?query=ADHD

I am sorry about that. A thing that might improve motivation is to have the person with ADHD think of what worked for them in the past, what recharges their batteries or excites them. Also, you could help the person with ADHD get motivated by advising them to break the task down into three pieces, so that it feels more manageable. Envisioning the benefits of getting the task done and thinking about what needs to change to turn their should into a want might motivate a person with ADHD as well. It’s important for the person with ADHD to revise their past schemas, address the inner critic and identify the blocks to motivation. You can try watching for, let’s say 5 minutes (or as long as you can), then pausing, taking a break and watching for another 5 minutes and so on.
