Better in you than on you (in regards to food). A banana literally was enough energy for 10 klms. Thanks for the name of the hiking shoes. I had three pairs: one for steep hikes, another for flatter terrain, and flip flops for relaxing in at your destination. As well, a walking stick is essential. Some albergues were kitchen friendly (easy to cook a meal), others were laundry friendly (where you could wash your clothes) and others were shower friendly (where you could take a shower).

Hey, Thank you so much for the video. I found it to be very informative, and a great starting point for planning a trip along the Norte. Hope you don't mind a couple of questions, and a suggestion as well! Firstly - for those walking the Norte having completed the Camino Frances - what would you estimate to be the general split in terms of the terrain you are walking. Eg - my estimate on the Frances would be roughly - 10% tarmac road 20% dirt trail 30% gravel trail 40% gravel/stone road mixed use trail. Obviously, you'll be kind of guesstimating based on memory, so I won't hold you to it. Also, as the Norte is coastal, how did you find the up and down? In terms of my suggestion - you mention footwear. For those planning on using boots, I'd recommend at least 1/2 size if not a full size larger to give space for feet to swell. I'm normally an 11 (UK), and using boots of those size for more than a week gave me horrendous blisters on my first 2 caminos. My third was using trail runners, like your Salomons, and resulted in next to no blisters.
@TheTravelVlogger
@TheTravelVlogger 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the nice comment! On the northern route i found that each day there were a couple options...some went along the coast, one stayed closer to the highway passing through small towns, and one route was more inland traversing hills/mountains. I took the coastal route as much as possible. I would estimate 25% pavement(mostly small roads), 70% dirt/gravel trail 5% sandy beach. of the dirt/gravel trail half was shared with cars, the other half was just foot path.
@helenvwalker7919
@helenvwalker7919 4 жыл бұрын
There are indeed a lot of ups and downs. I found it much more demanding to walk than most of the French route but the scenery more than made up for the effort. Stunning! A lot of tarmac minor roads because you just follow the coast around as much as possible. Lots of off road bits too though, through forests etc and some adorable seaside villages along the route.

Hi Scott, I met a 2 frenchmen, some germans, spanish and Native english speakers. I had no trouble speaking english, but this route is not as popular as the French route. so if you are looking to meet lots of people I would suggest doing the French Route as it is the most popular.

I understand you can also do the route on a bicycle is this correct? I'm nearing 70 and this way would be less impact on my old knees. I can walk and know I'd have to push the bike up some of the trails but I ain't getting any younger. I've done a lot of walking in the Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa for over 40 years and the trails are not as smooth as I've seen on this pilgrimage and far less populated and you get the extreme heat and sudden and sometimes dangerous thunderstorms so I think I'd cope but its a long way to travel from SA to not make it. Comments please.

Thank you for your tips man, this is what I needed to know, cos I am also thinking to do Camino at least once in my life, at least part of it. But I know I can be difficult person sometimes, I don't like crowds and like my privacy (doesn't mean I'm bad or unfriendly, actually I am very caring and love to help people), so I wouldn't like to sleep in those hostels with so many people (maybe once for experience) and I would like to do it in my own pace, without any plans like today we have to do 20 and next day 40km... I like to be independent and my own boss. I call this idea "my private Camino". I was wondering if would be possible to "do it my way", but definitely I'll try one day 😊

Hey, I know nobody likes self-advertising, but I just released a new travel film about my trip through the Camino de Santiago and would really appreciate if you tell me what you think about it, it's my best one yet!

Hey, How well marked is the Del Norte?

There are a ton of markers...but that does not mean from time to time you zone out and accidentally go the wrong direction for a few minutes.

Thanks Brion for your wonderful videos about the camino which we very much enjoyed! We did the "Norte" in September 2019 on bike, which also was a wonderful experience (www.komoot.de/user/anjop)! Unfortunately we can't reach your website anymore: thetravelvlogger.com/? What happened to it? All the best for further hikes!

without airfare...around 1500. But you could easily do it for under 500 if you are thrifty.

5 kilos is not possible......but less than 10 is mandatory. Having your bag delivered forward is cheating. They could not do this in the 11th century!

Really, where does it say that this is an 11th century pilgrimage? I've seen people pushing a wheelchair and having luggage forwarded. People doing it on their knees. And you can be guaranteed that in the 11th century noblemen went on horseback as you can still do. It's not restricted to catholics alone.

I deleted my comment because I have rethought about it and I don’t want to sound impolite. I do apologize. Maybe in your case uptalk is not so strong, I would try avoiding a rising pitch at the end of the sentence. I am not a native Speaker, just a linguist. Greetings from Pamplona and nice video anyway.
