I went for my first lesson in a while yesterday 🥺 I didn’t know this horse very well so I mostly just did grooming and groundwork with her. I don’t really want to ride until she knows me and I know her better but we actually really get along and she was walking beside me during leading. Thanks for the video

@@maiterae I quit bc my trainer wasn’t the best in my opinion. I had a trainer at a private barn and I felt like in most of my lessons with her I didn’t get to learn much but I kept advancing. at the school I rode at for the first few lessons I was constantly corrected for my heels, shoulders, and just overall position (since I was a beginner ofc) constantly 😭 but with her, she’d only correct my reins and hand position ever now and then. a lot of the things I’ve learned ie: correcting my posting, not arching my back, were things I searched for online and taught myself. my question to you is: what should I look for in a trainer? I’m going to two barns in a few days to watch a lesson but I don’t want to make the same mistake in picking a bad trainer 😭 but I get that it comes down to personal preference as well. my second question is: what do you think about group lessons? I was almost put into one in my 3rd ever lesson but I was scared about it and didn’t even take the opportunity to do it. would you recommend a beginner doing it vs one on one lessons? or because of my previous problems should I just do solo lessons for now? sorry if that’s a lot my bad 😭😭
@maiterae
@maiterae 3 жыл бұрын
@@mitty8145 i totally see where your coming from. and your totally okay any question no matter how long i’m here! so for your first question, “what should you look for in a trainer” i would make sure first and foremost that you feel safe, and comfortable. you want to make sure you feel comfortable asking any questions, because in the end that’s how your going grow. I would make sure the trainer has you put on a horse at your skill level and not a horse that’s going to get you hurt. making sure they are pushing you out of your comfort zone , but also keeping you safe. Also that are able to answer any questions you may have. Are they looking to make you better? or just having you go around in circles. just make sure you feel like your progressing! Now onto the group lessons…. so with group i would never have a beginner take a group lesson because it will take you so much longer to progress. a one on one lesson is where the trainer is only focused on you, and what your doing. so your really getting a lot more information! plus in a group lesson, your either working on a more skilled level than you are which could be not safe, or your working on a level lower than where you might be, and that’s just wasting your time and money. reason being is because there may be people in the group who are more skilled than you, and people who your more skilled than. so this just makes the lesson all over the place. And lastly, when your done with a lesson you should feel like you have accomplished something and you had fun! I hope this helps in any way! if you have any other questions please don’t be shy to ask! that’s what i’m here for!💗💗 i really hope you find a great trainer and succeed in your riding journey!

@@maiterae thank you sm! I don’t have “horsey” friends to rlly ask these questions to so I’m grateful that u replied! I totally agree with everything u said! not only was I not progressing, I overall felt discouraged so u rlly put me on a more clear path ! I mentioned earlier that I self taught myself a lot of things from watching videos, but because I don’t have a horse,, I can’t practice them 😭 surprisingly, I’ve always struggled with posting rather than the sitting trot so I wanted to know if you have any advice on it? I think I push off my feet too much causing me to be tired just minutes into it.. I look at other ppl post trotting and they look so smooth LOL that was the last question I’ll stop bothering u after 😭😭
@maiterae
@maiterae 3 жыл бұрын
@@mitty8145 i’m so glad i could HELP! 💗 i’ll be your “horsey friend!!!” okay so with the posting trot, it’s not easy, and it doesn’t come easy. but with practice it gets easier i PROMISE! if you get to ride an exercise that’s really helpful is practice at the walk, and start by standing up and sitting down. make sure when you sit your slowly bending the knee and sitting down in your saddle. making it a smooth transition, don’t plop yourself back down into the saddle. then take it to a sitting trot, and feel the rhythm of your horse. it’s a two beat rhythm and if it helps count the beats. (1,2,1,2) as an example. which will translate later to up, down, up, down. you can hold onto the saddle with one hand to stabilize yourself, and use your hand to help yourself pull up into that two beat rhythm. so you will be standing and sitting (up down, up down) in the trot as well. just like you were doing at the walk. you might get thrown off balance here and there and get out of your rhythm. so if that does happen, you can always sit again until you find the rhythm then continue rising trot! but the more you work at it, the easier it will become. hopefully that answered your question! i’m here don’t be shy to reach out!💗💗

@@maiterae ty! Also- Do you have any tips for when you have to trot? I keep on bouncing and losing my balance!
@maiterae
@maiterae 3 жыл бұрын
okay, so with trotting if you have a horse that’s bouncy it will make it more difficult for you. but if that’s the case, you want to slow down and collect your horse up and your trot will be smoother. you can also lean back and put all your weight in your seat, and allow your self to bounce. that should help keep your balance. trotting can be tricky at first, but the more practice you have the easier it will get:) if you have any other questions feel free to ask💗
