What is your favorite David Fincher film?
Which writer/director would you like to see next?
Let us know in the comments👇
0:00 - Intro
1:17 - TIP 1 - Directing a movie is like a three dimensional chess, everybody has to peak at the same time
3:14 - TIP 2 - Write your screenplay as visually as possible so that the images will stay in the readers' minds for a long time
5:19 - TIP 3 - Ask for as many takes you need. It’s not just about the actor, that’s the focus, but it’s a ballet between so many people.
6:18 - TIP 4 - It’s about taste. It’s not about equipment. You can make a complete film just with your ipad, you can write on it, film with it and edit with it.
6:49 - TIP 5 - If you truly want to get the rights for a certain book, then come up with a complete plan, with actors, storyboards, budget, schedule and a script.
8:12 - TIP 6 - With every collaborator, from an art designer to a composer you are trying to do one key thing, which is to make strangers FEEL something
10:03 - TIP 7 - “It’s my way or the highway.” Whether it’s for real or whether it’s fake on the set you got to project CONFIDENCE.
11:05 - TIP 8 - The old rules of storytelling don’t necessarily apply in the 21st century, so find new and unpredictable ways to tell stories
12:47 - TIP 9 - Prepare for things that can go wrong on the set, but at the same time leave the room for creativity so it doesn't become just a boring execution.
13:48 - TIP 10 - Do THE BEST as you can, but be aware that there are so many careers and factors in the process that when a movie really works it is usually the result of LUCK.
14:10 - Outro

Fincher said he was exhausted after running season 2 because his work weeks were 90h. Moreover, season two had to be rewritten and the view count wasn't as high as expected vs the high cost of production. He said he's taking a break, it's not canceled, yet. Fingers crossed!

He was going to make a season 3, but they spend the budget for Mank. So they just cancelled it for a while. I think they're going to continue the series, if Fincher wants to, but right now they need the budget.

Excellent video. David Fincher's films are always amazing. There are precise, economic, mature, highly intelligent, and darkly humorous streaks through his films. They are subversive on a different level. He has been making films for almost forty years and you can see that experience emanate from each film.

Exactly, and that is what he says in tip - 7 - ...and so it takes you 10 or 15 years to get comfortable enough to just go; ‘Dude it's my way or the highway’ You have to be able to do that. So I’ve spent, I mean it probably wasn’t until I was 40 that I could kind of go ‘Here’s what we're doing, here's exactly what we're doing, here's all I want’ and mean it and people would sort of go, ‘right away’.

Can't wait for Mank! This man is a legendary Director! Zodiac, Seven and Fight Club are Masterpieces! It's not easy to have three Masterpieces in your Filmography but this man was able to do just that! His entire Filmography is filled with great, great films well except Alien 3 and Panic Room (in my opinion) but every other film is definitely worth a watch. The Game is probably his most underrated film which doesn't get enough recognition!

Goddamn, no The Social Network love?! It is hands down the movie of his that will be remembered for the rest of time for capturing a period of life in the annals of history that we can't even comprehend yet IMHO. It's the stuff that we read or watch in school and think about if the people in history knew that they were experiencing history. With that film I feel that we were experiencing history being recorded and cemented that this will be our Citizen Cane of our times. No hyperbole there either.

This is a damn underrated channel, the other channels/videos I find for proper motivations and understanding the film industry more I normally end up watching some hokey pokey bullshit where the ambient piano is too damn loud where you can't even hear the person speak. they mostly come off melodramatic and hokey. but this channel is an exception. This video feels like I'm actually listening to a professional that's talking about his experiences and what he's learned in the creative/filmmaking business and how you could transform and apply all this knowledge into your own form of work or creative sessions. Btw Outstanding Screenplays, Your videos are well-edited and get's straight to the point which is a rare treasure for KZfaq videos, and to see the number of subscribers you have is a downright crime. I love your Aaron Sorkin and Alfred Hitchcock videos quite a bit. If you ever read this comment, Do you think you should make a video on Paul Thomas Anderson? He's a personal favorite of mine.

I liked that they showed the making of American propaganda in the movie, it was barely tied to the plot - but I feel it's so important to show that to the American people any way you can these days. Otherwise the movie was kinda meandering - but frankly I don't mind. It felt like it was coming from a place of authentic creative intentions which is so rare these days. Kudos for staying real.

I find fantastic to receive tips or advices from directors like David Fincher, now if you let me choose between Fincher and Tarantino, I prefer thousand times Quentin Tarantino because of his hillarious scripts. Nevertheless, it doesn't mean I'm not recognizing what Fincher has done as a filmmaker, obviously he's had ups and downs like everybody else but, the movie that defines him is Fight club. This is the film you will always pay to see it at the cinema or on Netflix, and also what amazed me about him is the quantity of takes in every movie he makes, so my question is; is he a fan of Kubrick?

Not exactly a "bomb", but just kinda "meh"

Very strange that he decries classic techniques like three act structure, when most of his films use that. Seven's third act is clearly when John Doe shows up at the precinct for example. Fight Club's antagonist is clearly Tyler Durden etc. Structurally I rarely see him going outside the classic form.
