From what i've seen is the number one reason people succeed or fail at ebay is their own effort and confidence. I lost my job as covid hit and had dabbled into ebay here and there previously and had to come up with some way to provide for my family or we would be homeless and starve simple as that. I used the little savings i had and credit cards to get started with inventory and dived in as an everything seller until i niched into catergorys i personally enjoy and had knowledge of since i collect in those same catergories and only needed to expand. In just two years time i'm running 25k in sales per month. 70% profit. Making more at this than i could have ever made in the past at any job while working currently less than 40 hours a week. It comes down to how bad you want it and the effort you put in. When i started i was working 19-20 hour days 7 days a week to get this set up to the point where it is now. If you want something bad enough or are unhappy with your situation then dont complain and do something about it. Such a simple concept that people fail to do.

Wow! what are you selling and how do you list it so fast? $17,500 net profit!? $200k/year! I think you're the one that needs to make how-to KZfaq videos haha!
@Optable

@@wheelindealin160 He also got 20 hours of sleep total per business week. Awful advice. I call total bs. Waking up at 5am is plenty. After two weeks of that sleep schedule you absolutely burn out, even with the most amphetamines you could possibly pump in to your system, that crash would be un sustainable. Such an odd flex. Anybody saying "70% profit" straight is full of it. Margins are going to vary significantly based on type of item, and he surely didn't have enough 90% margin items to balance out the 30% ones inevitable in reselling. Round Two doesn't make those margins besides the few premium grails. I guarantee they're successful, doing well. Just nothing like they've stated. Written like a high school teen.

@Optable haha yeah I think ALOT of resellers are like fisherman , embellishing their success. Bought a shirt on clearance for $5 sold it for $18.99 ( which is crazy , most shirts won't even get views at that price) with a 10% promotion rate and fees and shipping , there was a $2 profit..... Even if you sold 20 of those in a day ( which won't happen) , thats $40 , which won't pay any bills lol Not saying it's impossible to make higher margins , but those opportunities are few and far , especially when sourcing from other people's donations and junk.

For those of us who sell items that sit for a while, like clothes, realize that you are really running a warehouse operation. I had to move my business into a rental space in order to grow. Now I have enough space to at least quadruple the size. Efficiently storing my mostly clothing inventory really makes a big difference.

Just a bit on listing. I really have only been running my store seriously for a few months. Don't be put off when you are new. It may take you 20 minutes to list something to begin with. Hell I think it took me 30. You may think "God I will never get down to under 5 minutes". But you will. Just keep listing, update your templates, periodically, with everything you do over and over again. After a few weeks you can list in your sleep. Just make sure you update the templates. If you find yourself writing the same thing over and over again, pop it in the template.

The consistant listing does work! I just got back on ebay after a 7 year break. Started from zero. Started listing 5 a day. Only have 35 items listed so far from the last 7 days. I got 5 sales over the weekend. Cost of items $5 total. But I made $122 off those items. I'm just droning on. I made a huge liquidation order yesterday. It will be here Wednesday and its manifested. Already started listing items.amd they will go live the day the stuff comes in. Let'S GO!!!!!

I love your videos! You are so right about tracking what you make per hour! Had a conversation with my co-worker today about going part time at my job to put more into my reselling. She tried her hardest to tell me that reselling will fail. It will not go anywhere. I pointed out $9,000 in 2020, $27,000 in 2021 (triple the yr before), and I am currently up 43.8% over first quarter 2021. At that rate I will double that 2021 total of $27,000 in 2022. I also do Instacart when I am in free time and out shopping or waiting on kids or whatever, and I use them for Insurance because my job does not carry Ins and eBay don't offer insurance, LOL. Being the positive person of what I want, I broke it down to her like this, and she didn't know what to say: Full-time job $18.75 per hour (MBA...I should be making way more than that), no benefits (in five years I have been paid for a vacation 3 times & one was 3 days (the first yr I started) and two was 1 day each (both last year) any other days off I have either used banked hours (which came from being called when I was off and having to contact employees or look for placement for employees who quit or was needed immediately) or I have not been paid at all. One time I was paid for sick days, and that was only because I got sick, the boss required me to test negative for the C-19 before returning to work, I had already worked the whole week prior being sick (he did not care cause he was not there) and I refused to take a test because I had already gotten over the sickness & already knew if I had it I could test positive for up to 90 days AND I WAS ALREADY OUT OF THE 10 DAYS REQUIRED QUARANTINE WHEN HE MADE ME TAKE IT) FYI I did take it cause he made me stay off for the whole week until I tested and it was negative. I got paid only because I told him it was wrong him and his wife both came to work sick and they didn't go get tested cause they had gotten all the shots. I get weekly payroll hours when submitted and his wife (yes she is an employee & the other co-worker are paid for any days they take off (the co-worker is off three or four weeks a year..she has only worked 1 yr longer than me), The wife just started 8 months ago. The co-worker was paid for a month while vacationing plus 3 additional weeks 2 yrs ago. Reselling: Average $56 per hour (I figure it up monthly so it can be higher or slightly lower), benefits of I can do it on my own time, no boss, I work as little or as much as I need, I am still making money on my 3 tiny weekend vacas each yr, I can work two weeks a month (if we just consider hours time) and make as much as I do working full time at a desk job, I can go out and enjoy life while sourcing and making money. FYI going full time I would put more into it than the two weeks. Instacart: Average $25-30 per hour, I get health, dental, and vision ins, plus 401K, I can do it as little or as much as I want, I GET TO WALK AROUND AND DO LIFTING FOR EXERCISE....something I do not get sitting at a desk 8 hours a day. So not only do I get financially benefited, I also get health and lifestyle benefits!

When you do quit and take up reselling full time... be prepared to feel the "real freedom" that you thought you always had. I quit a hospital job and construction to start a solo landscaping business for summer and took my ebay to a new level when I found Chris(TY bro). My feeling of freedom and mental state have never been better and I have so many options to better myself. I helped push a couple friends to do the same with different businesses... they always talk about the freedom and new mind set they have. Just work hard... Good luck and get ready live!

I love the "make everything your fault" theory. It is exceptional - I try to do that in a different way but it allows you to become empowered and emboldened. I spent so many years unintentionally with a victim mentality - it was so freeing to throw that off. We are such powerful and creative beings but society does not want us to know or understand and thus is teaches us that we are subject to the will of others and have no say in our way. Thank you for including this in your business teaching. I believe this is possibly the key to what makes a "successful" person. It should be taught in every entrepreneurial class. By accepting the fault we can make the adjustment. 💯

1) Understand or have a "why?" Why are they doing it? Is there a goal that they have in mind that they started doing it in the first place? To eventually buy a home? To quit their job? To afford a vacation? If they already had a why, and they still aren't doing it, then maybe the why isn't strong enough and not important enough to them. They either then need to find a new why or just quit altogether, since there isn't a strong enough reason for them to be doing it. 2) Start with a few items at a time. Grab 10 off the pile, turn their back to the pile and do those 10, start to finish. They will never accomplish anything and continue to be discouraged if they think all about how much work it's going to do in order to knock the entire pile out. Do it a little at a time. Even if it's just one item. Once you do one item, you're already in motion, so it's easier to keep with the flow and do one piece, then the next piece and the next piece...

Hi Ashley, your friend is lucky that you care so much to ask. I'm curious about the hate. How much hate on 1-10. Ask her that. Hate not all the same. Some is fear-hate. Other can be imposter-hate. It likely isn't all hate-hate. I tutored 2 adults in algebra. Both hated math. One had fear hate. I got more out of her. Both passed their classes. Success is always possible. Target the problem.

And there are LOTS of ways she can get to success. She has passion. The next step is important. I don't mind death piles. Try to get her to expand on her love of sourcing and she might be able to tell you more about why she stops there. You can help her.

For a beginner would you recommend thank you business cards included? And if so, would you recommend including a give feedback/review on the thank you card?🤔

You can, sure, to get feedback up. But I wouldn't push for it. Sometimes no feedback is good feedback. There have been times where a customer is pushed for feedback and it just results in a negative and now you have to deal with having a negative removed. So...maybe say something like if they enjoyed their purchasing experience or their item, we'd love to hear back from you by giving us a good rating or positive feedback. Simple. If they do, fine. If not, just move on to the next sale.

@@biffboffo ^^^^This. I've received more positive feedback stating "Wow! Arrived super fast!" Or "Received earlier than expected!!" More so than the positive feedbacks thanking me for a hand-written card. Go above and beyond with your service and the positive feedbacks will follow.

10,000 hrs would be expert level and that has been something that is an idea that has been repeated but not 100% true. (Search Ted talk regarding the 10,000 hour rule) This would be true if you wanted to be at the top level of whatever you are doing but to do this full time I don't think you need to achieve the top level of reselling knowledge. If you want to become highly effective and efficient at reselling then I would consider Pareto's law/principal or the 80/20 rule is a better guide for someone looking to go full time. What 20% action/input do you need to (understand, know, do, source) to drive 80% of your results? You may find that the ratios vary but generally speaking they can be 10 to 30% and 90 to 70% output. The point being is to, just like Chris said, focus in on the important things. Identify and remove all the unnecessary and unproductive time sinks so that you are as efficient as possible.

Question- I invested $20, and got a couple shirts and a jacket for reselling. So far I’ve sold 1 shirt, made $8 profit….. should I wait to sell every item first then use the profit to buy more or use the profits I get asap to buy more as they come through? Thanks

A business that becomes a substantial income source, the term for that is probably "a going concern." Or, at least, that's a term closer in meaning for this context.
