People that don’t RSVP is one of my biggest pet peeves. I have hosted countless events where people did not RSVP, and a lot of people have no idea how stressful it is for the hostess to have a wide range of possible attendees. I also agree about people offering to help. I always do this because I know how much it means to me when others do the same for me, even if I don’t take them up on the offer. Great tips and explanation behind each of them. It’s a nice refresher and maybe a crash course for some! Thank you!!

Tracy, I am so curious about what your job entails! Would you consider doing a video walking us through what your day to day schedule is? Only the parts you could show of course, I know you must be confidential with your clients. But I would love to know how you got into this field and what requirements are needed, school, etc. I am just so intrigued!

Fantastic tips! I especially like the ones about food. It's very difficult when someone makes a big deal about accommodating their dietary choices. I don't believe that we should be fake (fake people are no better liked than negative ones) so if a negative subject (maybe a terrible job or an unfair situation) gets brought up I think it's ok to say you'd rather not talk about it or say the very least amount you can.

Last Christmas Eve I had a small get together with some of my in laws. As soon as my mother in law arrived she began filling the sink to wash the few dishes that were in it. I told her not to worry about it and that she go and socialize with people. (some live out of state and she doesn't see very often) Then she insisted on washing them because it gave her something to do. Then I switched to flat-out telling her that I didn't want her to wash them and suggested that the kids might enjoy playing with her. But she felt like that may intrude on what they were doing. She has a habit of constantly cleaning everything during family get togethers and then talking about she missed out on memories of her kids growing up because she was cleaning all the time. When having holiday dinners in general my sister in laws give her small dishes that reqire little work because she tends to be late if she has much more to do. (2+ hours) Then she brings a extra main dish anyway. I know it's a few different issues, but what would you suggest I do?

Anna, It sounds as if your mother in law has some past issues that probably stemmed from her own childhood. It is unfortunate that she may not fully recognize these and take steps to seek out a good source (like a Life Coach) to help work through these so that she can start to enjoy the family vs. work for the family. There is nothing you can do with HER. The best thing in this situation you can do, is work on yourself. Change your perspective and accept your mother-in-law for who she is. Good Luck!

Or even books? We are often surrounded by negative, and frankly, rude people and it is nice to have an uplifting resource.

Thank you Kristine! I appreciate it! I am not an active KZfaq watcher. KZfaq is part of my business, as is social media. When I am not working, I don't want to spend time in areas that are part of business. If I do watch videos, it is generally a Ted Talk or I am searching a pacific topic to learn how to do something - example: change the clock in my car ... lol I also currently do not make time to read. My schedule is very full. My free time is preserved for husband, kids, friends, exercise and sleep. My favorite books to read are on self-developement and business growth. Good luck in finding more inspirational women. I encourage you to stay clear of negative and rude people. I have no place for that type of catabolic energy. Sometimes you have to pull weeds to plant new seeds! Blessings!

Question! If your the one hosting the party. And you've said that dinner will be served at 2:00. Some of your guests are on time and some are not. As the classy host, do you wait for the others to arrive before serving, or go ahead and start and let them learn to arrive on time? Thanks in advance!

Hi Morgan! It's nice to give the other guests a few minutes to arrive. If I am hosting a dinner at 2:00 p.m., I have the party time start at 1:00. This allows guests time to mingle, get a drink and say "Hi" to people that have not seen in awhile. I also indicate the exact dinner time on the invitation.

I have started seeing way less of a friend that works the wait staff to death. It would be a little more tolerable if she left them a tip that reflects the amount of times they had to go get yet another condiment or dressing for her, but she doesn't!
