YES for AUTOMATION! I'm tried of how people surprised that I use P mode (let alone auto ISO and WB). Doing things manually is a useful skill but that doesn't mean you can't use tools to help.

This is the most valuable tip I got a while back: own the street and act like it. You're not invading anyone's privacy, they're stepping into your world.

I love the "Upgrade your Skills not your gear!" tip. I choose my gear in a way that I know that the limiting factor is ME. As soon as I prove that the gear is limiting me, I need to upgrade that. But I think that will take a long time ....

Really helps a lot when Josh said just use the AUTOMATIC feature. I always thought I will never be a great photographer if I use the automatic feature, but I was wrong. A great photographer utilizes tools effectively.

I feel as I'm trying to get into the street photography world what pulls me back the most is that fear that I'm bothering or invading someone and from the videos I've seen of you and other photographers you can: a. make your presence obvious to avoid concern b. be quick or c. make conversation and all three still scare me so much, but I guess it's practice :'^

Nice tips! I love street photography too. Because when I go out and shoot, I got to focus in the environment and observe. I don't have to care about other things. I don't have to care about social media, smart phones and things. Just be in the moment and shoot.

Great to see you bring on Craig and Josh, just a note about the gear end, I think the camera you find convenient to carry around without sacrificing what you care about in your image quality is important. I will never recommend a dslr to friends trying to get into street as the larger weight and size tends to make you lazy about using it. If you're fine with that all the more power to you but I also find smaller body cameras are less intimidating to subjects and yourself.

I've recently got back into street photography after moving and I've gotten to the point where I'm constantly noticing great images even when I don't have my camera with me. Those moments are especially frustrating! Also, around me it seems much harder getting pictures of people not looking at their phones simply because pretty much everyone has their face glued to the screen all the time! However, I kind of love going through my pictures and finding people who totally spotted me.

In germany, streetphotography is quite hard. As soon as you put a person in the focus of the picture, you have to ask them for willing in.

So happy your back Kai I spent 800 bucks on gear because of you and look and dig rev but I'm so glad you went on your own love you and your work thanks

Tip #0: Move to a country where street photography isn't illegal or gets you arrested or at least insulted very quickly. Short: stay the hell out of Germany if you like street photography

Street photography tip #1: chase light, not subjects. This helps you build scenes and just gives you more pleasing images to work with during post processing. Most of these shots, they were simply chasing subjects.

I never experienced any problems, all because I had a pocket telescope with autofocus (Minolta/Sony 500f8 Reflex, it's 750mm in APS-C). Just find a bench in the park, sit down and put the camera on your knees, lift the screen and shoot ANYONE - nobody will suspect you, because you are tens of meters away from them 😏

One: Don't make yourself too conspicuous by wearing strange hats and carry a large photo gear backpack. Two: Get a Fuji camera.

Are you legally required to ask someone's permission if you will be using photos or videos of them or their children for KZfaq, Instagram, etc? I've wondered that for a while. Also, if you interview someone are you required to get written consent to use that in a video that is public?

Once again a great educational video . Kai you are the best. Asia , Hong Kong, Singapore , Bali and Malaysia are great for street photography. Been there done it. I rarely ask if I can take their photo. Some times I pretend I'm taking a shot in the distance and then I alter the angle and shoot.

I picked up a compact stills camera recently to take with me on a classtrip. This video really helped me to not only take photos of our class and the landmarks but other people in the streets as well I really want to go out and shoot now.... It's Father's day today and we normally go to a concert with our dad. I might just take my camera with me if I find a jacket to put it in...

I'm curious - does anyone still buy street photos nowadays? I do get why it was interesting back when it was more of a photojournalism and documentary or it was kinda novelty, because there simply wasn't enough content, there weren't so many photographers that would shoot all kinds of photography. When it was really the only option to discover places, people, culture. As you know, photography nowadays, mainly street and travel, is available to everyone, so more and more people pick up whatever camera they can, travel to whatever place and shoot. It's all accessible. When everything and your toaster has a lens and everyone is ready and able to instantly share everything they can and will come to contact with. When everyone is a traveler, lifestyle blogger, street photographer, etc. Everyone has photos that are precious to them and everyone is rehashing everything. I'm aware you could respond on the note that you could stretch that thought to every other genre of photography, but the street photography is probably the genre, I wouldn't buy the prints of, just because I wouldn't probably see a point/interest outside of photojournalism and documenting, but then I'm not the client that would benefit from these pictures. Maybe some magazines would or someone would use/shoot it just to increase their traffic or likes on social media or blogging pages. For me personally It's difficult to appreciate. I'm not dissing, just thinking why.
