As much as I like the smaller mirrors compared to the builder grade mirror I feel the big mirror makes the bathroom look bigger because of the light bouncing off it. I also like seeing not only my face in the mirror but the rest of my body.

There are few things I hate MORE in a bathroom than a vessel sink. I'm rarely so rigid, but I simply can NOT tolerate a vessel sink. Vessel sinks make my eye start twitching. lol

What is it about them? Are they considered faux pas or dated?
@le_th_
@le_th_ 2 жыл бұрын
@@abigailh7715 It is entirely "my" issue. I have such a strong dislike of them that it actually makes me laugh at myself. I think one of the things I dislike is that they can be quite difficult to clean around the base, where water and gross stuff can collect between the counter top and where the narrowest part of the vessel meets it. This is especially problematic if it's a bowl-style vessel. It reminds me of the old school, pre-plumbing era when people would use a pitcher and wash basin, but the wash basins back then could be removed and the top of the dresser cleaned properly. That can't really happen with a vessel sink. Sure, there are probably some vessel sinks where the vessel itself is perpendicular to the actual counter, but those aren't as common. It's such a weird thing to have such a strong opinion about, especially since I'm not rigid in other ways, but I do not like these vessel sinks. I'd take one of those old fashioned wash basins with a water pitched over a vessel sink, if I had no choice but those two. I do not kid. lol I think of vessel sinks as very 2016, so I would not say they are "dated". As far as a faux pas, I think that more a subjective opinion. What matter is what YOU like or, if you're selling, what buyers want at that particular moment. No one should care about my rigid thoughts about vessel sinks. There are so many other things in live that truly matter and deserve space in your brain (not this issue lol).

How is the soapstone holding up in the bathroom? I have that cheap cultured marble in my bathrooms and want to go to natural stone, but in the guest bathroom, I don't want to have to run in behind my guests to immediately wipe up any mouthwash, toothpaste, or makeup spills. I want something natural and lovely for the guest bathroom, but nothing so delicate that it keeps me nervous about what the guests are using in there.

I have marble countertops in my kitchen. They were there when we bought our house. They are lovely looking but they show EVERY water mark, and are permanent. Completely would not be practical in a bathroom. And there is no product out there, despite the claims, that can remove water marks from marble. There’s so many other beautiful option that even resemble the look of marble but are much more durable.

You do not need to take down the large builder mirrors. Just call a glass company and have them come and measure for 3 inch wide beveled mirror trim for the mirror. Bing bang boom and 4 pieces of beveled mirror pieces later and you have saved a bundle of $$. This gives the mirror an expensive Venetian mirror look without the price tag, demo mess (removing that mastic causes massive damage), or losing the large mirror which helps to make a small bath look bigger and brighter.

Valentina, I love the " word art" reference. Husband and I were staging our home to sell and all we seen on Realtor websites was " Eat" in the kitchen and "Bath" over the tub. We have a sarcastic sense of humor and we were tempted to get a sign that said " poop" on the back of the toilet 😂 (we didn't, but it was tempting!) Ps one other thing we found in homes we were looking at to buy, a couple had nude art ( think a pair of legs with stockings, a nude pair of torsos and of all things, a stripper pole in the bedroom) I think that, is probably the one thing someone should hide when staging ones home for a sale 😂

Pool bath is minimal updates, master will be taken down to the studs (I'm over it, hate everything about it, and I picked it all when we built the house in 2003!) I'm in agreement on all of these updates and have done almost all of them so I must be doing something right (lol). So! The removing wall paper is easy comment...hahhh! It could be- it really could. BUT! My mom bought a house built in 1920 which was amazing. She had all the plumbing and electrical professionaly redone and completely renovated the kitchen and bathrooms. Even moving some of the walls to where it's a better lay out. But in the rooms that walls weren't moved etc. It still had the original... can't remember what its called but it's what they used before sheetrock- is like concrete. In my bedroom up stairs it had wallpaper, I wanted to paint the room and do it right so I decided to take the wall paper off...omg what a hell of a project!!! It had literally about 12 layers of paint and wallpaper!! A month later and it still wasn't done so she had to call dry wallers to come and they dry walled it and most of the other rooms in the house. Shortly after I came down with severe depression and anxiety, I didn't think about it at the time but I really feel like it have me led poisoning because you know with 12 layers of paint and wallpaper dating back to 1920 there was Im sure led in it. My friend who helped me take off the wall paper she also came down with the same depression and anxiety. Anyways! If the house is newer Im sure removing the wallpaper could be easy but not so much in a 1920's house lol.

It's called plaster of paris. Yes, horrible to work with, including doing electrical and plumbing changes. My parents had an 1876 home and they completely remodeled it. After their first attempt at taking down old wallpaper (which just peeled chunks of the plaster off with it) they chose instead to patch up the rough areas and put plain white wallpaper over it, then they painted it. My mom had previously wallpapered homes professionally, so she was able to do this with no seams showing. You would never know there was wallpaper on the walls.

🇬🇧 I live in the U.K. and our bathrooms are small. We usually have ceiling lights, rather than wall lights, often down lighters (can lights). I think the biggest luxury would to be able to press a button and have the bathroom clean itself, maybe a flush for the whole room 😂

Love your work! Paint! I did the Tuscan crackly peeling paint and lime wash in a bathroom … about 20 ago. Looked beautiful … for about 10 minutes. Then kids taking loooong showers got in there. Steam went behind and uber crackled. Talk about peeling. I occasionally went in with a scrapper and scuffed a bit more peeling off. OMG! Ended up eventually scrapping and skim coating the entire thing. Paint! Lime wash will definitely date. Paint. If it needs more interest: art or trim perhaps.

We just did a full remodel on our master bathroom. My husband is a builder and general contractor so he designed the layout which was completely 180゚ from what it used to be. And. And I designed the actual esthetic of the bathroom. And we pretty much followed every single rule you gave here! I did not watch this before but as I was watching it I was thinking that it was very cool that we actually did everything that you mentioned here except one thing. My husband put the lights above the 2 Round black framed mirrors that I put into the bathroom. We have a Jack and Jill vanity and so I purchased these gorgeous giant round black Iron clad mirrors. And then we put some beautiful old fashioned gas light in puter looking looking lights above each mirror. Our counter top comes in next week and I am very excited about our remodel being finished finally! It's been since June

Hi, Valentina. It’s Deb in Dallas. We’re remodeling a small master bath. I can’t imagine how we would be able to move the toilet closet, sinks, etc could be moved around. We do need a new shower surround, updated bath tub and all new tile and paint. It just doesn’t feel like it will be much different. I’m excited, but prepared to be disappointed.

Valentina, I love your ideas. I’ve been thinking about redoing our bathroom because it was done 11 years ago and in less then a month and we had no idea what we were doing. But it’s really small and full of stull (cabinets, radiator, tub, washing mashine, toilet, sink, laundry basket, you name it). And it’s tiled with black and white tiles with some silver edges, so… yeah… it’s a thinker. We redid our whole apartment last year and I love it but I just have no idea what to do with the bathroom. Until you gave me some food for that, that is. But I want to reflect on you saying you wish you could change the place of your light fixtures but you need an electrician for that. Not necessarily. You can get some sconces and use battery powered lightbulbs and then you don’t need wiring. I’ve never tried them myself but I know they exist, so that would be a budget hack. Thanks for the great tips and tricks and looking forward to your next video.

Here's a tip for a floor re-do without demo mess and little money, comparatively speaking. I re-did a small 1950's bath for a client, that was situated off a hall between 2 bedrooms used for guests. It had that 50's almost a hot pink tile with black bull- nose edging. However, the pink tile has a wonderful variation in coloring that gave it that artisan look so popular now and I couldn't bring myself to demo the whole bath when I knew I could make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The floor was more smaller pink and black and was just too much, so I found a wonderful waterproof floating very realistic wood look luxury vinyl interlocking plank in an almost ebony, a dark black/espresso with a limed finish (look it up if you're not familiar with limed also called cerused finishes, they are very interesting) that accented the grain (faux of course). Then my contractor just floated, no glue involved, the new floor over the original tile and caulked the edges around the tub and shoe mold around walls. I then did a great shower curtain actually two grommeted curtains by Kelly Rowland (HomeGoods) that I hemmed to right length and put one each side of tub with nice nylon liner behind for water protection (used 2 rods). The curtain is a wonderful ethnic inspired modern print on 100%cotton in a Robin's egg blue/aqua. Then I custom made a tailored valance in an expensive linen sophisticated IKAT pattern in all the colors, ivory background, pink, aqua, and ebony!! With a tiny shell bauble trim edging from HobLob. Only took less than a yard of the fabric. Kept the perfect porcelain sink on chrome legs that are so back in style, Did new brushed nickel lighting, faucet, oval mirror from Kirkland's in same finish. And oh yeah, a vinyl beadboard on the ceiling I painted the aqua blue to cover the awful existing ceiling! Whoa, I didnt mean to tell every detail, just the floor idea, but I got carried away...and I dont even drink coffee!!👊😉! I will say tho that there are many such "sow's ear" baths that could be turned into showstoppers like this one. I forgot to mention, I hung an old Turkish rug that was my client's grandparents, that had the pinks, espresso, pale hints of aqua, on the wall next to the black john... It really is a totally delightful loo!! Maybe I've given someone some ideas but sorry it was so lengthy. Btw, the floor was by Coretek a wonderful product I've used numerous times to great client reviews. Actually Valentina, you would consider it "eye candy" in its "after" photo shoot!!😘👍!

Correction, I said shower curtain was by Kelly Rowland, it's Cynthia Rowland. May be wrong but I think Kelly is a singer. Cynthia has a clothing and decor brand, lots at Home Goods/TJMaxx. Not that it matters but I just hate to make a mistake like that!😉👍!

I have the Moen Genta Faucets in chrome in my master bathroom and guest bathroom. I love them, HOWEVER, they are a pain to keep the stream of water out uninterrupted when you have calcification from hard Florida water. Even using white vinegar to soak and clean them doesn't help much. Also, agree on remnants. I saved 75 percent last year on white quartz countertops for my bathrooms by using remnants than buying slabs.

I also live in South Florida..I too have chrome faucets. I use Weiman.. Stainless Steel cleaner & polish, you can get it at the supermarket or HDepot..a little bit goes a long way..I spray it on a paper towel and rub it in. It keeps my faucets nice and shiny. I also have all Stainless Steel appliances and it works like a charm. I couldn't be without it, especially with all the grandchildrens hand prints. Good luck. I hope that will be helpful!

Valentina, I think we are soul mates! I agree with you 100% in everything! Unfortunately, we live for rent and the standards here in Germany are different. our bathroom is f.e. tiled almost to the ceiling! But I gave them a new sink and black fittings and I covered the floor tiles with the Rörkär carpet from ikea. a vinyl floor will follow soon. unfortunately i have to integrate the washing machine and tumble dryer in the rather small bathroom. if you have any tips, I would be happy! and: please continue like this! black, leather, marble and lots of humor !!

You and your husband are so completely correct on so much that you say. We are remodeling our house and these people are so casual about cutting up the sheetrock, move lights around, changing out toilets, moving a wall. I am just overwhelmed but it's too easy (for them) and doesn't really cost all that much. I have no word "art" at all and dislike it intensely but I need a real landscape or real photograph, something real, I haven't been able to adapt to modern art.

We have are so lucky to have 5 bathrooms in our home but unfortunately every one of them was dated and original from 1998. Imagine orange oak and tan tile. 4 bathrooms are getting a full overhaul and the one in the best shape is just getting a refresh. I’m currently painting that one navy with board and batten and painting the vanity navy. Already replaced lighting, countertop, and facet. I used beyond paint which is amazing. Thank you for the recommendations in accessorizing and artwork. Plan on checking Etsy out. I love your fun uplifting attitude and I love your videos!
