I cant find the video right now but there is a guy who likes to jump up in the air then sword lunge down while he's up in the air. For some reason, because you are going through at an angle instead of straight at a mob or player, it goes through any blocking. You have to manually aim up to block the downward lunge attack. The guy was jumping up on the rails of the ship then he would jump up and then lunge down. He would just rinse and repeat till he killed a blocking skelly or player. He seemed to be the only guy doing it. I have not seen anyone else using that style of attack to break through blocks.

Two VERY important tips: Never forget to stock up your ship on supplies you never want to run out, you can easily get supplies at a sea fort or an outpost. At the start of a session if you are not solo dont forget to assign roles to your crewmates like main cannon, helm, bilge, boarder etc
@Visy23TheElf
@Visy23TheElf Жыл бұрын
Especially on a gally with the bilge, having a good bilge rat on a galleon 100% makes the difference between sailing and swimming. Personal tip atop that, make sure to thank said bilge rat for passing up on the action upstairs to take care of the moisture below, had it not been for them, that tier one might well have doomed you

See I don’t like assigning positions. Me and my buddy freely swap who is where as the time calls for it. I usually drive the boat and hit repairs when needed and my buddy stays on cannons and goes to board. If he’s off the boat I get on cannons to assist him getting on the enemy boat by pelting their ladder tops

Good rule of thumb is to start raising sails when the islands name banner pops up. This will allow you coast to a stop short of the island but still close.

Tips for galleons: When you're in a galleon, make sure everyone has their role very well defined, my crew usually keeps one helmsman, one repairman, one canoneer and one flex, the flex job is to help where needed, be it shooting at other ships or repairing below deck, he needs to be able to move around the galleon very fast to waste as less time as possible, our repairman is the one guy you DO NOT QUESTION, if he says he needs help, everyone needs to listen to his calls, else the ship is done, usually the flex will be the first to go to his aid, but if he say he needs more help, than either the canoneer or the helmsman needs to go down too, whoever is freer, yes, this is risky in a fight, but so is manning a galleon, it is the most powerful ship on the seas, but also the easiest to sink if the crew isn't extremely good at communicating and gets lost/panics easily. Fire is a mess to deal with on a galleon, I suggest you don't think too much about it and tank the damage through food if you're getting pressured, fire serves to disrupt concentration, and as Phuzzy said, gives your crew something else to do that's not fighting back, tank the fire until you get an opening to at least douse it a bit if not clear it completely. One thing that can spell disaster for a galleon is Ballastballs, don't worry about middle deck holes too much, since you'll only get water from them once the bottom deck is completely full, but don't ignore them either, patch tier 3 holes if you can, and let the repairman use some breathing room to clear them, they are not your priority, but shouldn't be ignored completely, a Ballastball with a mid-deck full of holes can sink you extremely fast, even if bottom deck is pristine. When fighting a galleon, one thing I still see players doing is trying to trade with them, we have 4 cannons, you have at best 3 if you're on a Brig with a rowboat, the galleon always has the greater firepower and there will probably be at least one of them always firing at you to keep you busy, DO NOT ENGAGE a Galleon on their broadside, approach through the front and back and keep yourself out of cannon lines, fire is your friend, but mindlessly throwing firebombs at a galleon will do nothing more than waste your supplies, it should be used when the crew is already busy, be it with repairs, boarders, a mast down or generally, anything that's not shooting at you, do keep in mind that the galleon has an armor patch at the back and you can only put 2 holes in bottom deck from there, if you can, focus on the front and sides. Try and hit your shots at the bottom of the galleon, as I said, middle shots won't do anything unless the ship is already filled with water, this can be hard with waves and stuff getting in the way but keep trying, if you want to escape the fight, remember that the galleon is the slowest ship in the game when sailing into the wind. Why do I care so much to try to teach people how to fight a galleon? Because I'm tired of having just about anyone run away as soon as we appear in their line of sight, we had some amazing fights in the seas and while a truly experienced galleon is the scariest thing you can think of, the same is true for just about any ship, so keep practicing and may we see each other on the waves

When you do a harpoon stop, keep one of the harpoons reeling in a bit longer. That way you turn back towards the open sea and you can make a quick escape if necessary.

Another useful tiip is to play into YOUR strengths NOT the enemies. If you try to board and the enemy is ladder guarding with the eyes of a hawk and has multiple double gunning sweats that play the game too much and you're alone or with less experienced people. Don't try to fight them head on (unless you just want practice). Get a safe distance and try to lure them into traps/outmaneuver them to into more favorable spots for yourself etc. Ignore what people say about "running" sometimes strategically running is what you have to do and it makes no sense to go into a fight you know you'll lose. SoT's better players tend to also be very weak minded and will start to get triggered and mess up if you do anything smart against them and not just go guns blazin like they want
@tankerd1847

Seems like a lot of close combat sweats don't seem to have the crew coordination and skill to withstand a naval engagement. From what I've seen a lot of them absolutely depend on getting onboard and finishing the fight ASAP.

Great video. My little tip is Ghosts on islands can sometimes be overwhelming when you're just trying to get that goldy voyage treasure. If you deliberately die by them, when you re-spawn it'll change to skellies or crabbys which are way more manageable.

I was aware of the last tip about using harpoons to help stop your ship without the anchor. I've done this a lot when approaching islands: raise sails, harpoon behind, and lock the harpoon to come to a stop. Helps to keep the ship from drifting too far after raising sails.

Never knew about the flare working on ghost skele's, that's a cool 1. For me when I play solo, i use a harpoon to stop, 1 thing to realise with the harpoon is that your boat will turn differently depending on how far you let your boat go extending the harpoon line before you winch or lock the harpoon. I give every ship about it's full boat's length before i lock the harpoon, hold it for a sec and that'll do it.

One more: be paranoid. Always check the horizon. If you are doing an event and spmeone is sailing close by, they likely sent a swimmer out. If you weren't on your ship for some time, you did an underwater shrine for example, there might be tuckers.

For the harpoons. If you want to stop quickly use X instead of reeling. This will lock the harpoon in place and stop you almost immediately. Sometimes it seems like I have to hit it twice for it to truly lock.

The different enemy “factions” (Skeles, phantoms, and ocean crawlers) are not allied and will attack each other. If you find yourself overwhelmed by multiple of these types, back off and they will usually aggro each other. However, I’m pretty sure that if an enemy is killed by another enemy they won’t drop their loot (excluding skeleton exploders killing skeletons.) If an npc in the battle is a special one (like a Skelton captain) make sure you deal the final blow or at least a solid chunk of damage.

tbh anyone with abit of trajectory arc exp would have translated well... grenades, bows, auto turrets, sticky cameras... for me anyway... helped with cannons... and that island crash, yeah harpoons... but if you hadve quickly raised the sail after you left the wheel.. the turn wouldnt have hit... altering turn speeds on the fly can give you extra advantage angles in pvp... coordinating a crew to pull of moves like that with a ship bigger than a sloop is another thing tho...

I know they say for sea of thieves the only way to get better to to get experience. Well I learned these very important things from my experience 1. Always run. ALWAYS. pvp is no good if you're dead in two sword hits. Running is the best solution. They'll chase you, get bored, realize you're not gonna fight and leave. Denying them the fight they desperately crave is enough to save your life. Engaging isn't worth it. You WILL die and get spawn camped as they rob you of everything you own as they laugh to themselves as they kill you every time you respawn. 2. Cannons arent worth it. Pve is one thing but against a player it's just a waste of balls. Im improving after fighting so many skeleton ships but I can never seem to hit the enemy player ship, besides they always find a way to board or get close enough to board or shoot you to death. If a player ship is getting close, resort to #1 above. 3. Pvp advice be damned. Your knowledge is useless. Try anything you've learned from a youtube tutorial will get you killed. I would know. I never get to try any of the tricks I learned cause by the time im with an enemy player im dead immediately. Longest I survive was when two reapers ambushed me during the return of the damned. I was just trying to do the reaper side of the story, a brig sailed up, shot at me, I scuttled cause fuck pvp I knew i'd lose and two went after me. One struggled and needed his friend cause I had bombs and he was taking damage. Jumped around, killed me instantly with a charge. I wasn't a threat but as usual reapers have excuses saying they wanted to turn in even though I made it perfectly clear im there for the adventure, journals and leave. But when I came back and looked for the journals they harassed me, stole my ship and wrecked on the islands until it sank and pretended to be innocent. Then one proceeded to kill me after he found me. ONE. So trust me, pvp isn't worth it. Everyone has been playing the game for a stupid amount of time so you'll be dead before you could say "uh oh". 4. Do not ignore rule #1. Dont let confidence control your actions. Dont watch a tutorial, look at a ship and thing "I can do this" trust me you wont. Just run. It'll save you, your ship and your supplies. 5. Avoid players at all costs. No matter what their intentions are, even if they have a white flag which is known to be a message to players you dont want to fight. Even if they say they dont want to fight or say they want to start an alliance. Everyone lies. Especially reapers. One went up to me and sunk me when I tried to run. He claimed he was just looking to start an alliance and said he tried to communicate with a mic. But he said nothing to me, was a reaper going up to an athena emessary and then kills me when I try to run. He was obviously lying and was looking for an easy kill cause I was at a shipwreck. NO ONE in this game can be trusted. See a ship pointed in your direction? Turn your ship in the opposite direction. See someone on an island in the direction you need to pass? Take the long way around. Trust me, it'll be worth it. Avoiding confrontation is the best option. You. Will. Die. 6. Know when to scuttle, especially if you're just a solo slooper doing an adventure, tall tale or just world events. If someone is baring down on you just scuttle and use the merfolk to get out. It's not worth it. Scuttling after death with discourage them and deny them combat and satisfaction. If you get caught off guard and are killed you'll find yourself killed just as the black screen of death ends and youll be back on the ferry. To avoid allowing them to steal all your supplies or pleasure of spawn camping just scuttle on the first death cause there is no going back. Better to deny them the pleasure of harassing you and leave them disappointed they lost an opportunity to bully someone they deem as easy prey. You want to play the game, not die every five seconds. Scuttle.

What do you do when you encounter a ship that's rapid firing? Or a player that never misses a shot?
@kyleblack5480
@kyleblack5480 Жыл бұрын
That's when doing what Phuzzy says all the time about watching and learning how your adversary acts will come into play. A change of tactics might be called for. In situations like you described I will generally get a feeling that they will chase me. Are they following right behind me? Will I be able to get easy boards off, and are they watching the ladders? Depending on the ship type and their naval skills I'll often opt to lead them to an area with tight turns or obstacles. Can I get them to crash, miss a turn, or force them into my waiting broadside? Boarding generally works best when the crew is distracted, but can also be a great way to gain momentum in a fight. Always be looking for a way to gain the advantage, or the high ground so to say. If all else fails you can either run away until they get tired or go out in a blaze of glory. I personally opt for the second. If you run and they catch you, then you may sink. And there's nothing wrong with running, set your goal to make them fail instead of simply running. Shift directions, play with the wind, and try to be unpredictable. But if you go in for the fight you gain experience and may just come out on top with the loot and the glory!

Pets shooting off the cannon make the same sound as players. Anchor drop can get you away from being chased, if enemy almost got you. (They will pass by you and take some time to turn) Throwing a blunderbomb down will save you from fall damage If you want to have a fire alarm just put a keg over your stove. It will tell you exactly when the ship catches fire 👌 The best way to hide something is to bury it in the bushes and hide the map somewhere else on the island. Watch streamers to learn from them.
