The writers' strike absolutely killed that show.
@Ceares
@Ceares Ай бұрын
The writer's strike may or may not have influenced their decision not to focus on a new group of heroes every season, but staying with the same group because people loved them so much stagnated the fantastic idea of Heroes. Just like Prison Break and probably Lost, it should have been more along the lines of American Horror Story. Same universe, different characters, different stories, with the occasional cross-over where it made sense.

@@Ceares Story lines that basically didn't go any where and characters who remained insanely childish throughout just made everything post the first season, pointless.

It's pretty easy. Common reasons, but with Heroes, it was practically ALL of them combined. a) it clearly was designed as a mini series, Tim Kring had no story arc to go beyond the first season, so much so that I'm pretty sure he's changed the finale - for the worse - only to be able to continue. b) you can watch it in the music business all the time: the band/singer has YEARS for the debut album, it becomes a smash hit, and suddenly the label wants a second masterpiece within months... c) the A Song of Ice and Fire (or Lost) effect, in later seasons: too many variables made the whole thing an unsolvable mess. d) Plus there were some grave mistakes. Claire's "resurrection juice", for example, which nullified almost all stakes. Almost all the stars from S1 got ridiculous plot armour. In S1, we feared for their lives, as some of them DID get killed. (which - duh - made Sylar so effective as a serial killer, in the first place) I disagree, by the way, with the theme of the video: the best episode wasn't the pilot. It was a perfect first season, minus the finale, and peaked near the end. My personal favorite was the "future" episode.

The first episode of Hannibal is my favorite pilot of all time. It was brilliantly written and directed by Bryan Fuller, perfectly and creepily introducing our characters. After that, it was never bad, but it just became a procedural that couldn't match the feel of that first one.

I dunno. The Battlestar Galactica episode where they find the Pegasus and Admiral Cain takes control of the fleet more than gives the pilot a run for its money. Between Michelle Forbes performance, and Bear McCreary's music, it gave the series a huge infusion of tension as the Galactica faces a new type of threat. The scene between Cain and Adama, where he's confronting her because she's sentenced his crew members to death, with McCreary's 'Prelude to War' playing in the background, is some of the best television ever produced.

While a great series, I'd put Burn Notice on the list. You get to see Michael just prior to getting burned, completely in his element then the burn comes and he starts from zero and has to establish his new self. Even though he's still figuring things out, he pretty much has his support network in place by the end of the pilot.

I think one thing that US-produced TV shows could do to make them solid for their whole run is to actually write the whole series before the show actually begins production. A Heroes, Lost, and so many other shows had infinite potential, but just didn’t have material to make it through, and there were just so many disappointing things in the later seasons, not to mention so many loose threads that don’t get tied up.

I completely disagree with you about Battlestar Galactica, the series started well and ended better. In my opinion it remains as the benchmark for how a TV series should be produced with a beginning middle and end, something most TV series forget as they grind on and on while the money rolls in and then stop suddenly as interest reduces.

Saying Lost was weaker than its first episode is as lazy as saying it's ending was terrible. It had several amazing episodes, just as great as it's opening instalment. There was this dubbed horror show I watched on Netflix where the first episode was the best. I watched it because it was one those horror movies/shows where it was too scary and stuff to finish and everyone shut it off after the first episode. I forgot what it was called. I watched it back in 2023, but it’s been Netflix for a few years now. Pretty much the first episode was the only interesting episode and the most scariest (even then it was pretty meh on being scary and something a horror veteran could easily sit through). After that, the show goes off in a direction I didn’t care for and it wasn’t all that scary. All the horror is definitely scattered throughout and isn’t worth it. Or it’s more action-horror than horror. So I’d put that show on the list if I could remember it. I think the main character was some writer/author. That should help out people figure out the name. The main character is a writer/author (and female) and it’s a horror dubbed English show (meaning it was filmed and stuff in a different country but it’s dubbed in English/has a English dubbed version).

And being the greatest tv series in recent history, theres just no way to narrow it down to the first ep being its peak. Ricks recent spin-off, TOWL, 100% surpasses the 1st one. A pointless list about first reactions. Its almost like telling a joke and then expecting to get the same reaction twice. If anything, the entire mcu shows needs their own list. bunch of bias channels these days smh
