May I suggest the medic fighter, the medic caries weapons to clear the way for them to get to their wounded allies, they wear heavy armor to keep themselves safe while getting the wounded out of the fight. This is even better if you either multiclass into paladin for lay on hands, take the medic feat, multiclass into any caster with healing spells, or convince your DM to let you use second wind on your allies.

I made a combat medic fighter once. One level in cleric was him going to medical training before getting shipped out to the front lines. With proficiency in herbalists supplies, medicine, survival, and the Healer feat paired with the healers kit. You could do the same type of thing with the way of mercy monk darting around performing battlefield triage.

Two additional fighters you might like. The Assassin; a master of methods of murder, you've spent your time learning how best to manipulate the odds (and your victims) to give you the edge. Take the Eldritch Knight archetype if you lean toward arcane based assassinations or the Battle master if you want to be purely martially practiced, taking maneuvers that help you pick your enemies apart slowly, relishing in their pain. For added flavor and opportunities, take the Shadow Touched feat and pick up Hex to give your opponent disadvantage on skill checks of your choice to give you the edge in grappling. Additionally, ask your DM if you can swap out the Eldritch Knight's spell restrictions for the restrictions of the Arcane Trickster to make your dirty trade much easier to ply. The Bruiser is a Fighter more inclined to street fights and back alley brawls. You don't fight fair and tend to prefer small, easy to conceal weapons. Your best bet here is to pick the Champion, as your underhanded tactics and creativity have given you extra experience with fighting styles as well as given you a better chance at hitting below the belt (Crits on a 19-20.)

Buckler provides no AC but reaction gives bonus AC proficiency modifier. Also on a critical fail to hit PC in melee you gain an AoO. Free action to Don/doff. Light armour Prerequisite. Shield gain plus 2 AC. Bonus action to Don/doff. Bonus action to raise Shield. Double AC vs range attacks. Bonus action off hand attack. D4 damage plus strength. Prerequisite medium armour. Tower Shield. Only use light weapon in main hand. Prerequisite heavy armour. Plus 2 to AC. May take the dodge action as a bonus action. May raise Shield as a reaction or bonus action.

Been excited to share this one. Darli "Darwin" Khumbaba is a Duergar Rune Knight Urchin with the Tavern Brawler feat and Unarmed Fighting Style. Out of combat, he plays more like a Rogue, using a his tool proficiencies he picked up from his background and swapping from his racial weapon and armor proficiencies using the Tasha customization rules (Disguise Kit, Thieves' Tools, Brewer's supplies, Smith's Tools, Herbalist Kit, Tinker's Tools, Forgery Kit, and Poisoner's kit) to mascarade as a normal dwarf, patch himself up, and jury-rig discarded tech to the point it's barely functional to sell it off as his own like a shifty 1950s used car salesman (think James Woods' Hades from Disney's Hercules). In combat, he goes full Jet Jaguar, growing to Kaiju size and attacking with whatever he has to hand, including the enemies themselves. Although I have yet to use it, my DM let me use both my Herbalism, Forgery, and Poisoner's kit proficiencies to brew Potions of Poison. They look, smell, and taste like whatever potion you want, typically healing potions, but deal an automatic 3d6 poison damage, then gives a DC 13 Con save vs Poisoned. While Poisoned thusly, you take an additional 3d6 at the start of your turn each round, with an additional save at the end of your turn. Success means you drop subsequent damage rolls from the poison by 1d6, ending the Poisoned condition after saving 3 times successfully. Now I'm just waiting for the opportunity to use the Iocaine gambit from the Princess Bride.

My fighter is a duelist who trained because her father had a weird rule that she could only married a man who beat her in a duel and she was in intense training to be the best...... even though she was not interested in anyone and just wanted to eat cake. So any suitors who did not know What "no" means had fought her and only one won, but she still was not interested. so, as an excused she went adventuring. (Still thinks the sword lessons were cool)

While I like these, I prefer the vanilla flavor for fighters. They're the badass normals. Just ordinary people in a world with magic and monsters who picked up a weapon and through practice, dedication, and sheer determination can stand shoulder to shoulder with Sorcerers with draconic magic in their blood, those chosen by the gods, and those who made deals for power with unspeakable horrors. They're Batman and Hawkeye, and I just think that's rad.

I plan on recreating Luther Strode, comicbook superhero with Battlemaster Fighter. He came across a ancient leathery tome with pages made from possibly human skin covered in unknown language slowly decyphered over the course of the campaign depicting various killing techniques, pressure points which he utilizes to perform just deeds, so all of the maneuvers would be controlling the bloodflow within himself, or others

I know I should probably post this on the Barbarian video (if you have one) but your Rodert Downing Jr. Comment reminded me. I made an Intelligence based Barbarian who's "rage" was the same type of thing Sherlock does in the first movie. Rather than getting angry they would remove all emotions and analyze the fight. The ability to "see" how the opponents will react before hand was what gave him the resistances as he dodged or partaly blocked a lethal blow turning it into a flesh wound instead. Also took the tavern brawler feat to RP useing things around him to block, trip them up, or slow them down.

I’ve been trying to come up with cool ways to roleplay as martials lately. Fighters get all those extra feats to customize their game experience. Why not take one of the magic initiate feats? I like taking Warlock initiate and gaining eldritch blast, friends, and hex without multi classing. Maybe you haven’t signed a full on pact and the patrons goal is to get you to sign the dotted line. Maybe you challenged the devil to a drinking contest and won, or you defeated their previous champion in combat an received some power but didn’t feel the need to become their new warlock, or even you bested them in a riddle. Think Spotify with the ads, but warlock with ads. Thank you for all these videos, it really helps noobs out like me!

I played a warforged echo knight whose shadow was actually a projection that emanated from different cameras placed around his body. Another fighter I had was a retired, former adventure. He used to be a beast on the battlefield, so he still had that tactical intelligence (battle master), however his old age meant he wasn't as useful with strength or the sword. To compensate, he focused on ranged attacks, using preloaded crossbows, his dexterity was upped due to spending his retiring years as a yoga student.

I have a few ideas: The Alchemist: The Fighter is obscenely strong when you think about it. All those attacks in one round, action surge in addition. What if you got your power from drinking potions? Heck Second Wind could be a Potion you drink. Rune Knight could be you drinking potions, Eldritch Knight could have you dabbling into some Explosives, Psi Knight could be an experimental Alchemist. Proficiencies in Alchemist Supplies and Herbalism Kit could be useful. Medicine is also a useful skill to explain Second Wind. The Cultural: This Fighter is inspired by a real world historical soldier/warrior. This could be one of the following: Roman, Viking, Mongolian, Samurai, Shogun, Chinese, Egyptian, Sudanese, Indian, Aztec, Myan etc. This uses equipment, techniques and philosophies from the chosen culture, and time period. The player must do their research for this one. The Battlemaster is the best pick to have the techniques necessary to pull this one off. The Master: What if the Echo from the Echo Knight wasn't magical? Yes you are a veteran warrior now trying to teach someone how to fight. The "Echo" is actually your apprentice. Grab Medicine, Insight and Persuasion for this build. Medicine to patch them up, and persuasion and insight to teach them. The Shield: Yes. Your primary weapon is a shield. Grab Tavern Brawler feat and The Crusher Feat. Now grab Battlemaster. Have fun smacking your foes with a Shield. Grab Defence Fighting style. Now grab a Bludgeoning weapon like a Mace or Flail. You can now Shield bash as a bonus action and then attack with the Mace/Flail. You don't actually have a mace/flail you are just flavouring this as more shield bashing. Also grab Crusher feat. The Squire: This requires a party member who is a Knight of one of the following classes: Barbarian, Bladesinger Wizard, Cleric, Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Valour Bard. The idea is that you are a 1st Level character assisting a player character who is at least 3 levels higher. Grab Tinker tools, cooks utensils, and Perception proficiency. Your job is to aid your Knight. I recommend grabbing a Subclass that is similar to the Knight your helping when you reach 3rd level. The Wizard: Grab a race that gives you access to Magic Initiate Wizard. Now you have spells at 1st level. Pick Eldritch Knight. Your weapon of choice? The quarterstaff. You studied in a wizard school, however you struggled with learning spells. The quarterstaff was the only part that came naturally to you. Grab great weapon fighting style. Great Weapon fighting, Crusher Feat, Sentinel Feat and Toughness all work here. You don't need high Intelligence. Just pick spells that don't rely on Intelligence Modifier. You struggled with learning spells after all.

Huh, the blood hunter you say? Funny that they get mentioned, as I play a Order of the Lycan Blood Hunter in a campaign I'm a part of. Of course, everyone probably is expecting "edgy to the max" death dealer, but no, they aren't, despite having based her on the Brother's Grimm version of Little Red Riding Hood. She's not really used to people *wanting* to interact with the woman who literally smells of iron and uses her own blood to kill things, so she's usually pretty quiet when in social situations. Not to mention being a natural-born werewolf probably doesn't help the social anxiety (which I use the Shifter race in place of the werewolf template for balance reasons). And, yeah, she might have a bit of a hankering for less-than-cooked meat, but she'll be the first to stand up for the party in case the usual intimidation tactics from the barbarian or the rogue don't work. Nobody wants to mess with the were-creatures, lest they suffer the curse of one. It's usually more than enough to get someone off their case or some info out of a beaten foe. I mainly got inspiration for playing this character from, well, not only werewolves and little red riding hood, but also from the native american myth of the skinwalker. And considering that one's trained to be a blood hunter, using a more primal magic to give curses and brands upon their foes, I thought it proper to take some inspiration from them as well, to also explain her more hermit/nomad sort of life, and their empathy towards animals. Anyways, great video, and can't wait to see what other concepts you can come up with for Matt's homebrew class!

The Hot Toddy is a popular drink used to alleviate cold and flu symptoms. It consists of hot tea mixed with honey, lemon, and brown liquor (usually some variety of whiskey but sometimes rum or brandy are used). The hot liquid and honey both work to soothe a sore throat. The alcohol helps ease the aches and pains associated with mild illness and makes it easier to sleep, which speeds up recovery time. In Russia a traditional variation of this folk remedy is a raspberry tea - a good measure of raspberry jam dissolved in a mug of hot tea (and the tea is actually optional), possibly with measure of some liquor, often herbal balsam, as it's believed that raspberry has anti-fever properties. Traditional medicine in many parts of the world prominently involves teas made from roots, leaves, bark, etc said to heal various ailments. While many have dubious medical value, others have been adapted by science-based medicine (i.e. willow bark tea to aspirin). Tea, and green tea in particular, experienced a surge in popularity in the 2010s in North America due to its supposed health benefits, notably its high antioxidant content. TheraFlu is a beverage that combines elements of medicine and hot tea and comes in different varieties intended to help with symptoms of cold and flu. George MacDonald Fraser repeatedly asserted that in the British Army, a hot sweet cup of tea is the remedy for all ills except perhaps a bullet through the stomach - and he isn't sure about this last proviso. The British military's enthusiasm for tea does have practical benefits, however, being both a good prophylactic against hypothermia and a good incentive to make sure the water has been boiled properly. Hawkeye would agree with the bullet through the stomach remark, as pointed out above in Live-Action TV. Grog, or rum mixed with lemon or lime juice in hot water or milknote The latter is generally a bad idea, though, as adding lemon or lime juice to milk or cream will curdle it, making it at best unappetising and at worst emetic., was used by the British Navy to ward off scurvy. In the winter of 1535, French explorer Jacques Cartier and several of his men developed scurvy while they were icebound in the St. Lawrence River. Some local Iroquois people gave them tea made from the needles and bark of a white cedar tree, and they recovered quickly. The remedy was effective because cedar and many other types of evergreen needles are rich in Vitamin C. There is, of course, the ancient urban legend that states that St. Bernard dogs treated hypothermia patients with warm brandy, famously represented by little barrels tied around their necks. Not only is this something that never happened in the entire history of using St. Bernards as rescue dogs, it was determined by researchers of all types (including the MythBusters) that brandy is a very bad (even dangerous) fluid to give hypothermia sufferers because it has the side-effect of making veins expand, which worsens the human body's capacity to hold in heat. Many professional singers and speakers swear by hot tea with honey and lemon for soothing a strained throat or even treating a case of laryngitis. Andy Serkis used a variant that he called "Gollum Juice" (with ginger instead of tea) while working on The Lord of the Rings. He claims he drank it "by the bucketload" every day, saving his voice. Lemsip (and unbranded equivalents) is a common cold and flu medication containing paracetamol which is designed to be taken in the form of a hot drink (it comes as sachets of powder to which you add hot, but not boiling, water). In Asia, ginger tea is an ideal drink for cold weather and is a remedy against sore throats due to the spiciness of the ginger root. Black coffee is a popular folk remedy for sobering a person up, but the only real remedy for alcohol intoxication is time. In general, hot drinks with things like honey, and chicken soup, can help quite a bit with illnesses like the common cold where there is no "cure" other than time. Sick people often prolong their illnesses by not eating, and not getting enough fluids (because feeling sick is not conducive to proper nutrition). Substances like this can help with mild dehydration, and provide needed nutrients, electrolytes, and vitamins that the body needs to actually fight the infection, along with making the person more comfortable so they can rest (which lets the immune system work faster). This is the main reason these types of hot drinks and soups are helpful for sick people. This obviously only works with minor colds and such, if you have a severe fever or anything else seriously wrong it's time to see a doctor. Elderflower tea can provide soothing relief and help with colds.

I feel like all Fighters should be able to learn some Basic Battle Maneuvers while Battle Masters get access to Advance Battle Maneuvers. This is cause I feel that Fighters would all have some basic training before they take on their advance training for their Martial Archetype. Bannerets/Purple Dragon Knights I think should feel like a 1/3 Divine Caster, just like the Eldritch Knight is a 1/3 Arcane Caster, basically they are Paladin-lite. Samurai is such a misleading title, Battle Master can sometimes feel more like an actual Samurai if you pick the right Battle Maneuvers.

I had an idea i call the 'stronger than allowed' Fighter. Using just their own body as a weapon, but they have so much muscle strentgh that they are beyond a 'healthy limit' - Saying they put out that much force that the bones and veines in their body get damage everytime they strike. But when you Hit you just karate-chop someones sword in half or even their Arm. Or hell, If you're a goliath or similar strong Player race you just fall a tree by punching it over and over again. You feel all the pain, but the bones regenerate when you sleep enough. You're not durable though and 'taking damage' Shows your ability to dodge attacks, actually getting one Hit k.o.'ed when you reach zero. Inspiration were the 8 gates technique from naruto and the ability 'one for all' from MHA, which both increase ones strentgh to such levels that the bones in the Users body shatter when used too much or without the right preparations.

I have a heavy dislike for how much flack Fighters get. In fact I usually have an ongoing thing that whenever someone in a party bad mouths a fighter, I make my fighter somehow tied to their backstory so long as they're willing to put their money where their mouth is. I find this to be one of the easiest ways to make your fighter interesting. You aren't some Dropout wizard, you are the best friend to the bladesinger who focuses more on the blade part. You are a friend of the elemental sorcerer both raised by Giants. The Paladin has a best friend who's equally good at racking up their image, he just does it by swinging a s*** ton of times with advantage. Unlike everyone else who needs an excuse for why they exist, a fighter is so believable you can put them in anywhere. They are vemos combat and narratively flexible class choice.

I had an Idea of wanting to do a Fighter who worked in a criminal organization. Most people think of Rogues when wanting to make a criminal character, but I like the idea of having something like a fighter who is used as the "Muscle". The kinda guy who would be a Bodyguard for someone higher up in case a backroom deal gets violent, or a debt collector that people fear when they won't pay up.
