Welcome to my channel! Here you'll find folklore from across the British Isles. In this video I take a look into Vampires from the folklore and mythology of England, Wales, and Scotland. These creatures of the night are usually just associated with Slavic folklore, but Britain has many legends of the undead too. The tales I cover are:
The Melrose Vampire (Scotland)
The Glamorgan Vampire Chair (Wales)
The Vampire of Croglin Grange (England)
The Highgate Vampire (England)
The Buckinghamshire Vampire (England)
The Alnwick Vampire (England)
The Beobhan Sidh (Scotland)
The South Shields Vampire (England)
The Gorbals Vampire (Scotland)
The Berwick Vampire (England/Scotland)
Music used: Dark Magic Music - Salem's Secret. By Peter Grundy.

When i used to live in Edinburgh myself and two friends were walking down Pilrig Street at around 3am when we saw a tall, thin 'man' standing at the entrance to Rosebank Cemetery probably 100 - 150 yards ahead of us. We didn't really think much of it but then he turned his head and looked at us. His eyes glowed yellow(not bright like headlights, but we could clearly see they were yellow). We automatically slowed our walking pace and done a double take, looking at eachother, confused. The 'man' then raised his head as though he was inhaling deeply then dropped to all fours like a dog and darted across the road, and leapt over the wall leading into a public park. We heard some weeks later that a number of people had seen a similar figure in the same area dating back to at least the 1930's.

the Highgate vampire is honestly fascinating as a topic, it was clearly built on sensationalizing vandals on a Victorian Graveyard that was in need of serious attention, if you even look it up, there were cases of vandals breaking into people's coffins and staking a woman's corpse I believe because of the Vampire Scare. It's morbid and also fascinating.

those vandals are mentally ill nut bags vampires are nothing more than superstition. but if they were real I would say let the vampires rule our world it would be an interesting premise.

Imagine my surprise upon finding yr channel & discovering youre a fellow Geordie, man! Aalreet! Loved yr vid so ive subbed & liked. Heres something you may be interested in, in a few books Dracula or an aristocratic Lord who was turned by the Dark Prince, was known as Lord Ruthven ( i think it was also in a film too) So you can imagine my jaw dropping surprise when i found out that the Deleval family of Seaton Deleval Hall, during the 1700's had a guest called Lord Ruthven & he apparently "died" in peculiar circumstances. This is verifiable in The History of Seaton Deleval Hall ( i have the book too) there is a place called Ruthven & a Ruthven Hall right next to Balmoral, the royal family Scottish castle. Next i find, as ive lived in Seaton Deleval for years & other places within an 8 ml radius for decades i knew NOTHING about a huge mausoleum hidden in the trees away from Deleval Hall & the private cemetery of the Deleval family for centuries. Yet this huge mausoleum was built to honour & be the resting place of Sir John Delevals only son John who died in his 20th year. I kid you not this place is vast its a fantasically architectured stately home centred upon an elevated island of land surrounded by a 6-7 ft high wall & unless yr very athletic or 15 yrs old is impossible to climb up. Theres no bridge & it was supposed to have a water moat all around this mausoleum. Ive NEVER heard about this place until a few wks ago when my grandson & my daughter found it by accident. Theres a massive underground crypt thats bolted & chained behind a small door dug deep under the foundations. Theres abit of graphiti on the walls of the mausoleum but its otherwise been left to the elements despite being owned by National Trust but.. its not advertised, not kept up, no links to Deleval Hall, its hidden half a mile from the Hall in a wood with a centuries worth of soil, dust, mud caked around the crypt door. Its odd dont u think, that a Lord of Delevals only beloved son is supposedly buried, not on hallowed ground, nor would a Bishop of the time bless the crypt. Its never advertised nor refered to. Ive lived in this area most of my adult life & id never heard of it. Nor have friends & neighbours! This mysterious Lord Ruthven ( a vampire lords name he adopted) Visits The Delevals in 1700, dies in very peculiar circumstances. The Deleval Lords 20yr old son dies but isn't buried in family graveyard but a huge mausoleum on a 2 or 3 acre elevated island in the woods with a locked & barred crypt under the edifice, door caked up wth eons of muck & grime....?? I dont think anyone has put 2 & 2 together before. So waddya think? Its all verifiable & theres even a cheapy tinpot video of the John Deleval Mausoleum, which doesnt show much but ive been digging & found further details.

I think the Highgate Vampire story remains the most intriguing in our day and age because it feels closer to home because of its modern setting. There is something about these creatures having red blood eyes and pointed teeth like werewolves that was also experienced by the story of the kids in Glasgow in 1954. I know there is truth in this because in the early 1990's I also saw these red eyed creatures in my house. They seemed to be trying to hypnotize me. It was one of my many paranormal experiences that other people also experienced in the house.

Heard a similar story about the Pevanshi. Takes place in former Yugoslavia. A group of U.S. Special Forces Soldiers are on patrol run into some beautiful women, help them out, get gnawed upon save for one. He makes it across a bridge and into the back of M2 utility truck. Because the truck's tarp brace is against the back of the truck, it makes a threshold and he doesn't invite the ladies across so he's saved. Somewhere in the story hooves instead of feet comes up. Sounds like the outline of a crappier version of "Dog Soldiers" to me. Liked Dog Soldiers, though. It was fun. Hello from San Diego California. Salud

Another fact, some vamoires from ancient folklore were much like the modern zombis like the Nachzerer and Craqueuhhe. And some says that british vampires were the inspiration for I am Legend, the basis for Night of the Living Dead. Modern zombies are much closer to some vampyre miths than the living voodoo slave.

I was thinking the other night about building myself a "custom sleeping casket". If you think about it, if designed right, you would sleep very well. Build it strong enough so that if your home collapsed in the night for any reason (like an earthquake or tornado) that you would remain safe. Have the ability to contact the outside world right in the coffin. Climate control to be comfortable. Padding for comfort. Soundproofing to make it quiet. And of course, lightproof. Might be wise to install a heavy-duty jack that could jack up the reinforced lid in case of earthquake or whatnot.

With how many civilizations have a story of a immortal creature that feasts on blood, yet is in guise of a human, and doesn't qualify as living or dead.. I wonder if such creatures do in fact exist.. if they do.. I do not think they should be glamourized or feared.. but pitied.. death is not some divine punishment.. what is true punishment is never knowing deaths embrace.. never aging, seeing those you are attached to pass from this world to the next, yet you cannot follow them, due to your immortality

Just thought I'd say Melrose is the most depressing town I have ever visited and I've been to a lot of places (Russia, Turkey, Cyprus, France, Ireland, Scotland and most of England and the UK in general. I often thought Caithness was grey and drab but..... Without a doubt Melrose was instantly depressing, even sadly the people the town. I've never before felt a feeling of utter despair quite like Melrose and have never felt that way in any other place since. If it was anything like that historicallly no wonder it attracted a vampire!
