I took out a 30 year mortgage at age 60. My main goal was getting rid of the mortgage by age 70. I threw all I could on the mortgage. It was easier during covid time. I still owe $12,000 and will be mortgage free at age 69 1/2. Get excited about your goal. You can do it!

Im going to turn 46 in May. I own paid up my apartment. I have my car paid up. I don't have no loans. Neither I have stores accounts. My biggest expense is my daughter she is in grade 11 this year she will turn 17 next month. I don't receive no allowance from her Dad. We live in Johannesburg, South Africa. Im Tour Guide. I pay for my retirement. I also save monthly for my car replacement when I need to change eventually. I also save monthly for home maintenance. I also save for emergencies. I also save for education. In case something happen to me and I can't pay for education. My absolute pleasure is travel and once a month I go eat sushi and once a month I love eat ribs meat. Once a month or every 3 months I go to movies. I don't smoke, I don't drink alcohol. I don't go out with friends etc. I don't really socialise. I love my family my hubby, daughter and twice a week I visit my old parents. I see my brothers at my parents. I love my life.

I love the EveryDollar budget. I was so happy that I learned about it. Nerdy I know, but I get excited about planning next month’s budget and coming home after grocery shopping and updating my current budget. I realized it might have morphed into an obsession when I found a dime on the street and was excited to increase my current month budget by $.10

I am listening to you in Scotland where I have been for 1 of my 3 weeks. I began saving for air tics a year and a half ago. A year ago I began saving for my time here. I am staying with my sister. Free room, free board, free taxi. I pay for every 3rd adventure/ meal and have bought presents for those at home. I have only gone thru 20% of my $'s. My main point is... the year and a half flew by and here I am.

12 years ago I owed 48,000 in student loans. I had 2000 dollars. Renting. Chipping away at my debt weekly, monthly, yearly while adding to my savings. One income. I’ve always been very goal oriented. Now: Mortgage will be paid next year. No debt. High net worth. It all adds up. My current goal is early retirement. Just keep going!

I do all of those things you mentioned but the one that stuck out the most with me was that a person should be "willing to change the course if the goal no longer serves you". I have a prime example. My goal was to save enough money to buy a house outright in a cheaper area of Canada for retirement. Once I had reached that goal, I realized I would not only be isolated in a rural area, with no social support system, a disability that greatly affects my mobility and transportation options. Harsh winter conditions which would further isolate me from an unfamiliar community, and has high heating costs. The cost of the move, the actual purchase of the house and maintenance/repairs would deplete my savings drastically=no buffer. However, when I found out that my medical coverage would be compromised and the medical system was terrible in that area, I changed the course. Yes I was disappointed I hadn't followed through to fulfill my goal, however, knowing that I had actually reached the goal but it no longer served it's purpose for me (security), made it easier to rational my decision to change direction. Now I have plan B, C & D to think about. I have time to do this. It is nice to be part of a frugal community that understands.

Having fun imagining the items in my garden and enjoying a little planned splurge which will get me into my garden and happy place. 😊

Having a mindset of opportunity and abundance instead of feeling deprived really helps so much with living frugally and meeting those savings goals. I think it’s the biggest single thing that changed that made a difference for my ability to save and be happy doing it.
@laurafarr26932 жыл бұрын
The second thing that went along with this, is making a game of how I could have a need met while saving money. The first area I did this in was my kid’s clothing. I bought my kid’s clothes and most of their toys and equipment from a consignment shop near my house. After selling my stuff I no longer needed back through the shop for awhile, the owner asked if I would like to work there a couple hours a week for store credit. After that I got their clothes without spending money from the income coming in. I “double dipped” by getting checks from what I sold through the shop too. I found certain items sold for a lot higher than I could find them, and I would treasure hunt those items at other places, buy them cheaply and resell a big mark up through the shop the things I didn’t need, and it helped me to have extra cash to buy my own clothes and things for my house that I couldn’t get at her shop.

As soon as my balance transfer came through, I called my new credit card provider to get my account details so I could start paying down my debt. The persons confusion (apparently it’s not common to pay before the first bill comes)… was very satisfying. Now I pay off small amounts from my mystery shopping, surveys etc. and watch to wait for it to land… I just got a bonus from work, everyone else is buying shoes and other things. I paid extra off my debt and decided to get my dogs teeth cleaned as preventative to lower my costs next year. I’ve never been this organised but spending less, even though it’s not 2nd nature yet, definitely gives me more peace. Checking accounts daily really does help keep you motivated.

I love this video. I watched a prior video of yours where you talked about picking a word for your intention for the year. Mine for this year is 'reset'. I'm resetting everything, my health, my financial situation, my priorities. Sometimes, it's just a daily reset if I'm having a hard time and need to take a day to de-stress and start again. Even my kid took a reset day and stayed home from school when she was having a rough day and came back fresh and ready to go. I'm currently single and I'm loving the freedom that gives me to really figure out what I want and where my priorities are and go after those without having another person throwing me off track. I'm adjusting things financially to change course a bit, decided to hold my RRSP contributions (I'm Canadian so we have RRSP's instead of 401k or whatever the US has) for the time being to focus on paying off my credit card and other debts. I hate that I'm not going to be saving for retirement but for my peace of mind, I'd rather pay off those debts and free up more money that I can put into the RRSP later. Anyway, I'm rambling a bit. Just wanted to say I love these tips. I love how real you are, how you let us know when you've made mistakes or had to change things up because they didn't work for you. We all go through this and it's ok to make mistakes or fail but not to give up entirely ❤️

😭😭 I fell off the budget wagon this month. When I started my new budget in November I did great. November to February! March has been awful for me. I went over what I messed up on, borrowed $384 from saving and revamped the next 4 months budget to pay back my savings. I did get some killer deals on meat. I’m stocked up for a long while.
