I’m at a complete disconnect from most of your suggestions because a $500 chair you consider a great deal and that would be my entire budget for my entire large apartment. Not all of us have that kind of money to drop on vintage and antiques, etc. I did however, on your recommendation get some feed and wax and that stuff is brilliant. You are completely my favourite decorator and designer. I love your stuff.

Vintage is the way to go! Definitely set your Facebook marketplace location to rich areas for when seniors are looking to downsize. I managed to score these antique teak art deco dining chairs for $20 each. The old lady was telling me that her father bought the dining set in 1917 which would make these chairs over a century old, but they look brand new!

Hey Drew, I wanted to share something with you about that stuff you use on the wood. If you use a paint brush specifically made for chaulk paint, there's a larger one with a pointed tip you'll not use as much product as it will be on the brush & not a cloth it's easier to get into the areas that fingers can't. Store the brush in a zip lock for next project & it's ready to go .

I love feed and wax too, but the only thing to remember when you use it, is that if you think you might want to change the stain or tone of the wood color down the line, the wax is very difficult to penetrate. So, if you ever want to change anything about the color of the wood, you have to basically sand the entire piece in order to remove the wax. Just a good thing to know. 😊

I learned this from a woman that worked for Southerbys. Got a scratch. Use those round tins of wax shoe polish to match the wood. Buff then use your polish.

"Not expensive" and "under 500 Dollars" do not fit together in my world.

I have used the feed and wax for years. If you have an ornate section on a piece of furniture use a stencil brush to push the product into the intricate areas. I also have used it on my cast iron bistro table on my back porch. It darkens the black and gives it a little protection from the elements. Great product.

Drew, I am SO loving your home! You are my #1 favorite KZfaqr! I follow some design gurus (including Arvin Olano), a couple of fashion KZfaqrs, several travel experts, and a couple of perfume reviewers. Yours is the only one that I'm counting down the days until your next video, and I DEFINITELY notice when you're "late". lol. I literally don't notice that with any other KZfaqr. At any rate, I came here to say THANK YOU for explaining about lighting. As a designer and lighting specialist, lighting is about the only thing that I will tell people "no, you can't have that" if they try to go below 2700K or above 3000K (K stands for "Kelvin") for residential purposes. The sad thing is that most big box stores tend to carry HORRID lighting in the 4000K-5000K lighting, marketing it as "Daylight". I'm not quite sure why that is, but they are so blue that they wash the color out of everything in your house, including the humans! You spend so much time and money curating a perfectly beautiful home and then, BAM, you throw it all away with the selection of your light bulbs. So sad. To clear up another misconception, a higher Kelvin temperature does not equal a brighter lightbulb. It has to do with color only. Let's go back to choosing those warmer tones to make your house feel cozier and less cold. Even with grey tones in your home (perhaps ESPECIALLY with grey tones in your home) you have to add in some warmer elements or you'll wind up feeling like you're living in a cold and sterile environment. The "mixed metal" idea in the kitchen is almost compulsory when appliances don't match drawer pulls, etc. I'd love to find a mixed-metal pots and pans set that would bring it all together so it looked like a purposeful design!

Much more fun to look at vintage than all new stuff. I'd rather achieve a look that has been curated over time instead of a what's in decor store and is hot at the moment. Decorate with things that make you happy and of course that look well together. TFS and Happy Friday everyone!

Re: rugs and sizes, I have found rugs that are considered too small (and cheaper) that I like so I buy them and layer them over larger rugs that coordinate. I have a Moroccan rug that's larger than my big coffee table, but not enough for the living room furniture so I added a neutral 'tribal' rug under it. Also, a great way to add color to a room. I did my last living room in a Santa Fe, NM style and the colors are stunning.

Great tip on muting wall color. De intensify color in walls up or down. I love thrifting. You are so generous with ideas!

Good advice about paying attention to the Kelvin values of light bulbs! An employee at Menard's explained this to me and it changed my life! No more blue -tinged icky lights at my house!

While I love that you promote buying second hand and vintage, you still spend WAY more than most of us could ever afford. For me, thrifted means less than $10, maximum $20. But then you add $500 worth of brass handles, or spend $2000 on marble backsplashes, or recover a thrifted chair with $300 fabric and a lot of us just can't relate. You used to do such great diy projects that looked amazing and were really cheap. I don't expect you to spend less for your own house, but maybe you could still throw in a few diy videos for those of us that have to count the pennies?

Touching up your paint makes a world of difference. My eyes immediately go to any little flaw. I don’t think most people see them…I’m always running around with as artist brush doing those tiny touch ups that make a difference.👨‍🎨

Watching your channel has inspired me to experiment. I find I really like mixing up my furniture. I have vintage pieces (dresser, sleigh bed, dining table, upholstered chair, desk, ceramic vases) mixed with contemporary pieces and love the look. I also have a few antiques - a nightstand (originally a side table) made in 1849 and a large ceramic bowl (originally my grandmother’s) that was made in 1920.

3 days ago. Some paint stores sell a $5 sample so you can “try” before making a commitment. I like to paint the sample on a large white poster board and then I can move it around to see the colour in different locations or different lights.

Love your design style and tips! This is such a great channel! ❤ I will add a quick one of my own. You can also, (inexpensively) revive tired, dry wood pieces with a mixture of two parts olive oil and one part white vinegar. (Can also add a drop or two of your favorite scent of essential oil) You don't need much. Mix it well, rub it on, let it sit and soak in for a few minutes, then buff it out well with an old T Shirt. I have done this for years and have never had a problem with smell or rancidity. If you are nervous about trying it, do it on a test section first. Furniture looks amazing when finished!

My heart sank when I saw vintage is before 1999. I remember offending someone 20 years when I called something vintage and because of her age, it hurt her. I guess today I get my payback. 🙃😂 But, I love vintage things and antique things. They add so much to a room.

I was in Goodwill and locked eyes on the most beautiful little hutch,6' tall and 4' wide. She looked pitiful and filthy. Pulled out the drawer... stamped 1953 Mahogany. $39 cleaned up beautifully and most complimented piece I own. Just used the feed and wax on her and she's glowing! Found the feed and wax@ Home Depot for #10.

I would consider “vintage” something that is 40 years or older and something that is 20 years old as “collectable”. Right now, in Bakersfield, California, antiques are “dirt cheap”. A 1900 coat rack and umbrella stand (complete with drip pans) that cost $200 in 1985 can now be found for $400 and it has increased in age by 35 years! A very ornate Victorian tall desk is selling for $600 and in 1985 you could not touch it for less than $400. Stores that sell second hand furniture are good places to shop. I just bought two matching upholstered wing-back chairs for $200 and, from the same store, a carved “Henredon” brand side table for $55 and a tall ½ hexagon curio cabinet for $130. At the Goodwill store I found a coffee table with leaded glass inserts for $20. In 2014, at the Salvation Army, I found a sofa and matching love seat for $165 which was a younger, exact copy, of the sofa and love seat I had bought at J.C. Penny’s, in 1998, when my children were babies. All my table lamps in brass, porcelain, and glass have come from swap meets, Salvation Army, and Goodwill. I bought my first nightstand lamp (50¢) at a swap meet, 40 years ago, when I was in high school.

I work a side job to have some fun money once in a while.. It is super fun to go looking around at the last day of Estate sales where people lower their prices and want to get rid of everything that is still on the property. Sometimes yard sales at a neighbor's house or refurbishing roadside find can work for some of your decor ideas! Im a single parent on a budget, so definitely a bargain shopper and i like unique items that bring everything together.

To buy vintage or second hand, especially from someone who has died - is to honor that person's loves and hopes, imo. It shows reverence to their life.

Don't forget your thrift stores peeps, I recently found MCM barware for $3.00 - $6.00..everything I purchased is valued at over $400 right now! I find amazing things, also still in the box from 40 to 50 years ago. You can be frugal but PATIENCE is key. Don't stop trying. Eventually you have "wins".😊

My ceilings are coved and the curve comes all the way down to the trim. It would be hard to hang curtains from the top of the wall due to the curving walls. Also, my windows are generally in the middle of the walls so while I could finagle a longer curtain it would look broken up. I've found that hanging the curtains right at the level of the trim, which is at the bottom of the curve, works best.

Best decorating advice I ha e ever seen.

I used feed n wax on my antique dining table and the result was amazing! I tried it on my hardwood floor in just a small spot that seemed kinda bleached out and for some reason it darkened it so that now I have a dark spot. Not sure why, but you might want to test it (which I guess is always a good thing to do) just in case it surprises you in a bad way. Again, it really elevated my table!

I love secondhand / vintage items and you mentioned people thinking items are haunted. I don’t know about haunted but I had one distinct “bad vibes” item. I thrifted this vintage Polaroid camera as a decor item for my bookshelf. Put it on the bookshelf and it looked nice but the vibes were just weird and creepy. Anytime I walked in the room I would just feel it and notice it immediately. I got rid of it within a few days 😅
