I wonder if the "65 episode" rule also exists at Disney, so that no show makes syndication, and , as a result, the company doesn't have to pay anyone residuals.
@tiffprendergast3 жыл бұрын
Dale Henderson probably
@almostfm3 жыл бұрын
It's a good thought, but I don't think it's the reason: 1) A show typically needs 100 episodes to be viable in syndication. At 20-22 episodes a season, that would give them another season or even two. And while there are exceptions to the 100 episode rule, they're not common. 2) Nobody says you _have_ to syndicate a show after 100 episodes. Disney could simply not sell it, although it wouldn't be smart because 3) Syndication is a cash cow for the production company. Other than residuals, there's basically no cost.
@diabeticsrule17634 ай бұрын
So, im not sure about syndication or residuals, but i have heard that Disney wont do more than 3 seasons of a show so they dont have to pay the cast most. This is why many shows get rebranded after 3 seasons, like the suite life of zack and cody becoming the suite life on deck.

I was livid when it happened, but with the passage of time, I've come to consider it a relief, almost. It is inevitable that it would have degraded over time & probably become a shadow of its former self. When Joss Whedon split his attention with Angel, I feel like Buffy started to go downhill. It was still pretty good, but not as much as the first 3 seasons, imo. The fact that Firefly is so great while Buffy _and_ Angel were still going is practically a miracle. I'm tempted to say Swamp Thing too, Warner greenlit the series as part of the DC Universe line-up, then right in the middle of production the AT&T acquisition happened which lead to a re-evaluation of all their projects, apparently the higher-ups just didn't "get" Swamp Thing so they pulled the plug on it. It's funny because the show was based on Alan Moores run, and he once said the reason he did Swamp Thing was because he liked the challenge of taking a seemingly ridiculous character & concept and writing a compelling story, and the "ridiculousness" of Swamp Thing is basically what lead to its cancellation.

Would you believe that Star Trek: Enterprise was cancelled because producer Rick Berman thought the only thing Star Trek fans wanted to see was sex? He just chose to interpret the ratings instead of SIMPLY ASK US what we wanted to see. We wanted great stories, of course, and that's what we got after the former Borg Seven of Nine was introduced in Voyager, and the ratings went up. But Berman looked at the ratings, and he thought they went up because Seven wears a skin-tight catsuit. So he promised that Archer and the crew of the Enterprise would have more sex, to which we fans collectively said WTF? Enterprise ratings went down because of this, and by the time the second season ended, Berman realized his mistake and promised better stories, but the death knell had already sounded. The Xindi story arc in the third season was great, as were the three-part storylines in the fourth, but unfortunately, nobody was watching.

American Gothic, a great thriller in the 90's, was cancelled because executives of the time didn't know how to handle and promote a show where the main character was also the bad guy / anti-hero. Others from the 2000s - That's So Raven (100), The Suite Life of Zack & Cody (87), Hannah Montana (98), Phineas and Ferb (222), Wizards of Waverly Place (106), Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (125), Handy Manny (113) Rule didn't seem to be a thing in the 80s/early 90s. @@richarda.d.9745 "bringing it back" can be done in so many different ways. definitely not angling for a veronica mars revival where you bring the same staff back, but the general universe for a bounty hunter space western could definitely be resurrected. perhaps a "reimagining" like BSG or V. scifi fans are completely amenable to such revivals as long as the execution is good.

Star Trek: Enterprise was cancelled after the fourth season because Les Moonves, The CEO of CBS at the time, didn't like Star Trek. The show had decent ratings and a decent following. This is also the that was responsible for the Abomination that is the Alex Kurtzman Nu-Trek shows (Discovery and Picard), along with their iron clad 5 year unbreakable contract and was instrumental in the awful "redesign" of the Klingons into the Kling-orc's.

Yeah Dwayne McDuffie explained the whole animated series malarkey, apparently Cartoon Network shows, particularly adaptations, can't recoup the production costs on viewership alone, so they only adapt characters that can sell merchandise, this is why like half of DC's animated series are just Batman, and why so many other shows like Static Shock, Green Lantern and Young Justice get canned.
@Valkanna.Nublet3 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is that losing the title character isn't an automatic death of a show. The 80s Robin of Sherwood swapped main character halfway through and kept going. Losing so many main characters though, yeah that'll do it.

Your tv show is too much like a movie. Space: Above and Beyond This excellent sci fi show about space marines fighting aliens in the future was cancelled after only 1 season on the fox network. One story says that the movie Starship Troopers which was also being produced at fox was too similar to the show. Thus the network sabotaged the show until it was cancelled in order to prevent consumer confusion. The movie tanked at the box office anyway.

Metalocalypse, because “screw you” that’s why. Adult Swim refuses to make more even though there’s money to be made from doing so - as proven by the successful petition online -, there’s more to be made since the creators have begged them to let them make more, and even worked to broker a deal to move the show to another network in order to get a final season or film made, but Adult Swim just won’t budge, because they already make a bunch of money from re-runs. The show is still so popular that Adult Swim got the live band (which includes the creator of the show) to perform at their live event last year.

There is a reason for all of disneys tv shows staying under 65 episodes. It is called syndication. TV shows have to hit the 100 episode mark to generate enough episodes to be sold to smaller stations for rerun purposes. By keeping all their shows well below the magic syndication number of 100 they don't have to worry about their shows winding up on anything but a disney owned channel.
