How do you tell someone you're gay when they think gay people don't exist in your country? Perhaps we can start with a number - 1 in 10 people are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender, and this matters to all of us. In this lively talk, Nikhil explains the ideas and the ironies of his story as an LGBT Activist in India.
Nikhil Jain is a high-school student and the Founder of The Global Impact Project ( TheGlobalImpactProject). His aim is bold but simple: Get everyone to start talking about gender and sexuality, because only our stories can make the 10% of LGBT people an integral part of the 100% we all belong to.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Some people say that 1/10 people is LGBT. I say that out of my 10 closest friends, one of them is fully heterosexual. Just saying.

Is he part of the LGBTQ community? Because liiiiiike, he's woke, confident, and very dedicated to giving voice. It's even better if he's straight because then I applaud him for being an amazing ally.

A really great talk. He has managed to put together the gender spectrum, historical views of sexuality, the problems for LGBTQA people from a heterosexual point of view and what we can all do to ensure awareness, tolerance and acceptance in our lives. My one problem... the sound. He should have had a personal mic recording what he was saying rather than a mic in the room.

Great talk. With a really unique view point to lgbtqa issues. Bringing up the connection between colonisation and the rights of the lgbtqa community is so so important for understanding ths root of the hate/ignorance. And also making the connection with patriarchy ~misogyny is a great way of opening peoples eyes. X well done

What I learned as not being a lgbt activist is that Transgenders have a dysphoria and shouldn't be called hero's for doing a surgery that ends lives. I also learned pretty much every girl is fine with doing something with another girl if they had too. Aka a heterosexual female porn star wouldn't mind doing a scene with a girl. For guys it's much harder.

That's an incredibly privileged thing to say. Until young people stop killing themselves or being abused, because they are apart of that 10%, this subject cannot and should not be shadowed because it's 'boring' to some.
@phirdeline
@phirdeline 9 жыл бұрын
Allison B I don't say this should be shadowed, quite opposite there is not really much people left in the world who's homophobic and while there is still things to discuss I feel like this movement has too much power

WHAT? What did you even just say. I think you're happily and willfully ignoring the actuality and reality of what LGBTQA identifying people have to go through. If straight/cis people ever are allowed (legally & without appeal) to be fired or thrown out of their homes for being straight/cis, then we can address your concerns. And when straight/cis white men are killed because of 'straight/cis panic' by their sexual partners who are not then charged with a criminal offence.... Then and only then would any of what you said make any type of sense. But I don't see that happening.
