Rookie mistake. Too ease non-wrestling fans into wrestling you need to show them how juvenile/silly but funny it can be. I got a mate to see wrestling in a different light by showing him Hogan/Michaels at Summer Slam for example. Got another who became a sort of casual fan (see still asks me what's going on) by showing her 2006 D-X. The serious stuff NEVER works, all they see is obvious fake fighting.

I remember when you guys talked about it in 'Worst Match Ever', but I have to reiterate: The ECW chamber was purposely DESIGNED so Vince could fire Heyman and prove himself right. He wanted to push Bobby, Heyman disagreed, got shouted at, had to watch his child die in front of him, play along with it and then get fired for something he was not even to blame for. The fact that Heyman EVEN came back so many times in the future tells Volumes about how good of a businessman he is. Because if I were treated like that I would never have returned to something Vince was even remotely tied to.

That's the unique thing about December to Dismember that sets it apart, it's a show that NOBODY wanted to do or see. Vince intended it to be bad, Heyman knew it was bad but couldn't do anything, the talent knew about the power struggle & didn't care as a result (the main event is a properly soulless match), the fans knew the show was doomed for weeks. It's a show laden with apathy & bitterness. Shows like RR14 & RR15 you can at least say Vince, in his own delusional mind, thinks what he's doing is right & fans will fall in line eventually. Not the case with D2D, dreadful show.

Royal Rumble 2015 is atrocious, but I think it gets saved a bit by The Rock's reaction. The genuine confusion on his face is perfect; he went out there thinking that he and Roman were going to get a standing ovation... and as he processes what's going on around him, you can tell that the words going through his head are: "Oh. Something is wrong here."
@mycahjofficial
@mycahjofficial 10 ай бұрын
Everything about that rumble match was just so appallingly terrible. From the booking just getting worse and worse, Daniel Bryan’s early elimination, and the worst of all sending out the rock to help out Roman reigns, which was not a good look for him, considering the fact that he was supposed to be the triumphant babyface ascending to the top of the WWE mountain. On top of all, that the fact that the company really thought that the fans were going to get the fans to cheer for Roman with the help of The Rock only for him to get booed as well was just downright embarrassing.
@BlackPawn14
@BlackPawn14 7 ай бұрын
If anything, The Rock's reaction just evokes how terribly wrong the entire conception of that Rumble was. The Rock returning to save The Greatest Babyface Of The New Generation from the bad guys was supposed to be a "greatest pops of all time" moment. It wasn't, because only WWE management actually thought The Greatest Babyface Of The New Generation was likeable. It was a cringe moment, as much as the entire booking of that match after Roman entered (hell, starting when Daniel Bryan got eliminated). The Rock was cringing when he saw the reaction. I was cringing when I saw the whole thing live. Awful.

What I really hate about Royal Rumble 2015 is that the first 15 minutes or so of the men's Rumble is actually really good! We get an early Bubba sighting to pop the crowd with the greatest hits, and we got Bray Wyatt running the show for a little while. Bray vs. Boogeyman was good silly fun, and squashing the other two and giving him mic time in between the eliminations really helped sell him as a threat. And then just as it was about to wear out its welcome, Daniel Bryan comes out to rekindle the feud and it's great! It's a really strong beginning, and it's honestly kind of impressive just how quickly it all goes downhill.

I hate that The Great American Bash had such low-card matches with Velocity-level superstars like Billy Gunn vs Kenzo Suzuki, Hardcore Holly vs Mordecai, Mark Jindrak vs Scotty 2 Hotty, and Charlie Haas vs Luther Reigns. To prove my point, One of the matches I just mentioned wasn't even on the PPV and was on an episode of Velocity one month later but you don't know which one

For me it was WrestleMania 34. It's the one WrestleMania that I didn't finish, and the only wrestling show I ever rage quit after watching. When Charlotte Flair beat Asuka, I was done. I haven't watched WWE since. It pissed me off that bad. I had enough of the bad booking over the years, and that finish to that match was the straw that broke the camels back for me.
@shimauta1941
@shimauta1941 10 ай бұрын
Asuka fans don't want to admit it, but as good as she is at the wrestling itself, until she can speak English fluently and clearly or is given a good manager to carry her on the microphone she's not going to be worthy of the main event scene in the womens division especially not as its champion. They have that one segment in an episode of Raw or Smackdown between her and another of the Japanese female wrestlers where they both trash talk in Japanese and the audience is basically left to hear cricket noises because less than a full one percent of them understands a word of what they're saying. And that perfectly put it on display what's actually holding the few Japanese female wrestlers in the WWE womens roster back.

@@shimauta1941you say that But THE most interesting Shinsuke has been on the main roster has been recently And he’s done it with his subtitled segments over the Tron Why they can’t try something of that nature for Asuka and others is BEYOND me Cause here’s the other thing regarding your point on Japanese wrestlers needing to speak English WWE shouldn’t have even RECRUITED THEM if that’s their excuse “They don’t speak English, screw bring them over anyways.” The fact they hired them with their incomplete grasp of English and DON’T do anything to mitigate it whilst fans such as yourself says it’s the Wrestler’s fault is dumb as all hell
@shimauta1941
@shimauta1941 9 ай бұрын
@@arashitendou5941 I partially agree with you on hiring wrestlers who can't speak English not being (at least entirely) on the wrestlers themselves. They should definitely be doing something to mitigate it. At the same time it is definitely important for the wrestlers to be able to speak English if they want their career to thrive in the long run because always relying on the mouthpiece you're given isn't exactly sustainable. It's like how a lot of Japanese rock bands have difficulty getting treated seriously by major labels outside of their homeland when they want to go overseas to territories like the US, UK, and Canada. If the singer's English isn't clear enough or the members can't handle themselves during interviews and other promotion. And it isn't like this doesn't work in reverse (at least for musicians). If you're an American musician or musical act and you want to break into the Spanish market the first thing you're going to do is learn Spanish. It isn't enough to just get someone to translate your songs into the language and memorize the lyrics in that other language. Also you bringing up the subtitles is a perfect example of why learning English is so important. There's more to a promo than what the wrestlers are saying and if you have to divide your focus between the subtitles and the wrestlers you're going to miss stuff. You shouldn't have to go through that. I rest my case.

Really like the premise of sharing each of your personal top tens, small change to the format I would make is using those personal top tens to create a final agrogated list. Gives room to include debate in the discussion, maybe two people disagree on a position and the third must give deciding vote ect. Something similar to the way the match of the day top ten podcast is done, the pretense is create a top ten list but really its just a prompt for a podcast topic.

TLC 2014 had Harper vs Ziggler in a ladder match, which was good. Battleground 2013 is a bad show, but the match between The Shield and the Rhodes Brothers (with Dusty) is so incredible that I hesitate to write off the show completely. It's insane to look back at that match now considering how Cody, Seth and Roman have been interacting over the last few months / two years. Also, Wrestlemania 27 isn't that bad IMO. Edge vs ADR, Cody vs Rey and Orton vs Punk are fine matches. Sure, they're not 4-star classics, but they're solid. Triple H vs Undertaker was pretty good. And even though the main event sucked, I actually think the ending works. The Rock screwing Cena was a big deal and was a pleasant surprise for everyone who hated Super Cena.
