What happens when a wrestling match doesn't go to plan? When a certain incident arises which causes the match to veer off course? Well that’s when the predetermined becomes undetermined and wrestlers have to create a plan in the moment. A ring-general can take control of a situation and ensure a match reaches a normal conclusion without the viewing audiences noticing anything is amiss. But sometimes, havoc reigns supreme.

The Hardy-Sting match was much worse than was told here. Hardy missed his entrance call by a long time. When he appeared it was clear right away something was wrong. He was wobbly & unnatural coming down the ramp, his eyes were noticeably whacked & he was engaging/taunting-messing with fans along the way. As I recall he wandered outside around the ring for a while "messing" with fans. Finally he gets in the ring passing/bumping the ref who takes one look & whiff of him and throws his arm into a highly displayed X, indicating to the bosses upstairs Hardy is unfit. Hardy took so long to get in that Sting had been called and came in the ring, Sting entered right next to the ref but turned from the ref just as he threw the X so Sting didn't know yet, officially that is. Anyway Hardy is climbing up the rope corners still ultra messing with the fans, taunting with t-shirt throws over and over, he walks/stumbles/prances to each corner & side again & again, never tossing the T and Sting is watching & now knows Hardy is lit up like the 4th of July on steroids. If not already obvious to all, Taz who I believe was announcing says "what is wrong with Hardy" or "Whats up with Hardy" as he wont stop this parading and messing with fans. Then Bischoff comes out and I've got to say he really did a good job and sold what he was doing, holding up the match and making it seem like this was a scripted part, what a Oscar wining performance by Bischoff. He says something about being out there to make things fair between them as said in this video and first he goes up to Hardy. Bischoff tucks the mic back around below his butt and leans deep into Hardy ear and I'm sure he said "Your taking the first fall as a pin, immediately", Hardy's eyes were glazed and his face blank when Bischoff spoke to him, I'm sure Hardy had no idea what he said and thought he was out there as part of a script to say hello. Bischoff again talks into the mic and walks to other side of ring to Sting holds his hand out to shake hands with Sting and again buries the mic behind him into his butt so there's no chance of what he is sating can be picked up. Sting shows he's a long time Vet and sells this all by making angry faces at Bischoff. I assume Bischoff said the same to Sting, pin this fool immediately and dont pull any punches. Finally the match starts, obviously Hardy missed the memo because he is doing his best to get away from and fight sting, Hardy digs his nails into Sting and you can see blood on his neck and Sting put his hand to his neck to check it. Sting is visibly pissed, he tries to get a hold of Hardy nicely but Hardy resists and Sting grabs and big handful of hair really hard and really jerks Hardy, he really punches him hard to, Hardy is still resisting and Sting slams slams slams slams slams him to the mat with vengeance, with great anger and with extreme prejudice to quote a military term, He puts a pin on Hardy and Hardy cant believe whats going on from the hair pull to the real punch to the hard slam and pin, Hardy is legitimately for the first time in his life trying to really get out of a pin, struggling like no wrestler ever has, he still doesn't know what he's doing or what he's supposed to do as if Bischoff never came out and told him. Sting has got him nailed to the mat, ruff, ruff, ruff. Ref counts a really rapid record pace 1-2-3 and Sting jumps up disgusted, Hardy stumbles up in a daze trying to figure out what just happened, visibly shaken and angry. Good thin he decide not to mess with Sting anymore because Sting would have torn him in a million bloody pieces. As said, Sting looks at the now angry and yelling crowd, walks up the ramp shaking his head and telling them "I agree", meaning he hears them say this is BS and he agrees. Hardy still dazed in the ring, I don't think the camera went back on him after the pin..I had bought that PPV and was pissed, this was going to be a really good match. It was reported that many knew about Hardy's drinking problem and knew he was drunk (at least, who knows what else he had in him, it was far more than booze). I dont know who was in charge back stage but put a fair amount of blame on them too for not stopping Hardy, he nearly destroyed TNA. I do feel bad for Hardy, such promise and talent and he let those demons get him at that all important time, of course its 100% his responsibility and fault, I'm glad he recovered from that but I think he had a relapse or two again in TNA and or the WWE. Take care Jeff Hardy, get well and stay strong. Someone made a good video on this called "The Hardy Incident" or "The Jeff Hardy Incident" watch it. I think this was the first time in wrestling history that someone was legitimately trying to pin someone and the other person really trying to kick out !!!!!!!!

Even if it was just a house show, to just decide on the fly to lose instead of win and communicate to Steamboat exactly how to do it for best effect in only three words is just amazing. #6 is great too, because even if it was unprofessional, it's another display of how Jericho puts his coworkers first. Hey, where was the Elimination Chamber 2015? Poor Dolph Ziggler damn near killed himself bumping trying to salvage that match after Wade Barret accidentally brought Mark Henry into the match well ahead of his planned time. So often the SSP of Brock is mentioned but almost nobody considers how often Brock did this move before. He did it in OVW, he did it at the beginning of his WWE-career. It was a spectacular but normal move in his arsenal. What ever the reason was, it went completele wrong against Angle, but it wasn´t the unusual move as everybody tends to tell today. Maybe it was the plan of Brock and Kurt to finish it with "Brocks best shot" and maybe Vince had some words and please tell me, if I am wrong, but Brock never used the SSP again. Apart from that, I love the 1st story most. Paying back to Ricky Steamboat with a reference to his greatest moment in WWF.. What a great move of Chris.
@suzmun
@suzmun 4 жыл бұрын
there were two obvious factors in that sequence 1> Kurt was about 1-1 1/2ft too far away for a SSP and brock was clearly gassed and slightly under rotated in his flip didn't get enough pop on his initial jump to carry him all the way. Thats why most drag ppl closer to the corner they are doing the SSP the shorter distance makes it easier as more is put into the flip itself then having to back flip while jumping forward.
@benfuller3413

@@suzmun yeah lesnar had put angle to far away, but part of blame is angles abit he should have known he was to far away and rolled abit closer, but tbh no one was really at real fault, mistakes and accident like that happen, I can't stand lesnar but I gotta give him mad props for performing that move at his size and weight, that takes real skill that many a lighter guy could never hope to have performed

The Radicalz match on RAW where Eddie Guerrero injured his elbow on the finish is a good addition to this list. The Radicalz were coming from WCW and the match stipulations had those competing that night fighting for contracts with the then WWF. The first match was a tag team bout against the New Age Outlaws, which Eddie was supposed to win after hitting a frog splash from the top rope. However, when he injured his elbow on the landing, he called an audible and was pinned himself. This put backstage writers on red alert trying to come up with a solution before the next Radicalz match that night.

It’s hard to see. But the referee threw the x sign during Jeff Hardy’s entrance and this is what signaled the backroom / Bischoff to come out. I don’t believe the back room knew of anything until the x sign

Much respect to Jericho for how he handled the Neville situation. One of the GOATs. Honoured to share my birthday with him, 35 years apart. Actually, even Angle with Lesnar.. And whoever showed such a good sense of mind and deserves praise.

I think Regal was trying to prove to Goldberg that he may have to learn how to wrestle eventually if he wants to be champion. As far as a real fight goes, I like Regals odds.

I had always heard goldberg vs raven and the flock in wcw was a changed finish. From what I understood raven was supposed to walk out during the match while the flock distracted goldberg. Supposedly the crowd threw raven back over the wall and he was knocked out from the impact. He stumbled back into the ring dazed and goldberg had to change the finish to a pin.

Was never a fan of this match. It made Raven look weak (or weaker than usual, depending on your perspective) and like a transitional champion. In my opinion, DDP should have never lost the US Title to Raven the night before. If he hadn't, we all would have been treated to the magic that is Goldberg/DDP on a show that didn't run over time.

Where is Kofi vs Bryan 1? Kofi was clearly not supposed to kick out of Bryan's finish, but they had just got the crowd so Bryan made the audible. BTW Austin said on his podcast it was his fault that his hand slipped and he fell out of the Rumble, he didn't say Kama pushed him out.

Public Enemy were going to get the shit kicked out of them regardless because they’d chosen to sign for WCW before WWF. Also, I think World War 3 deserves a mention because of Hogans shithousery and screwing Savage out of a proper celebration.

I really thought that elimination chamber match would be on the list where Mark Henry's chamber accidantly broke, then nobody knew what to do with the situation and then Dolph Ziggler commanded everybody including the refferee around trying to save the situation without letting the audence know that they had scripted a different plan for the match... and killed kayfabe by making it so obvious even a blind person could see that they are cooperating with each other and just followed through with Ziggler's plan.
