Drugs or not though, he's always gonna have back problems just like Matt. Lots of these guy's moves were made during a time in wrestling where the safety of the wrestler wasn't prioritized. One of the reasons why I blame WWE as a whole for what happened with Benoit. That headbutt should be banned.

I've been in that same position. I got >physically< addicted, where you feel like you're dying if you stop taking them, yeah. But I NEVER used my pain meds to get high, and I have nothing but seething contempt for those who do. These scumbags, people like Jeff Hardy, are exactly why those of us who need these medications have such a hard time actually getting them. Keep the Swanton bomb as a signature or a surprise finisher, he does need something new. If he keeps the swanton bomb as a surprise it could become a secret finisher kind of like the RKO but this time you never know when it's coming

@@rustlerv6549 problem is the swanton is to jeff what the superkick/SCM is to HBK, what the rock bottom and PE is to The Rock and obviously the stunner to Austin When Austin had taken on a tough enough group and did a live winner decision on tv, fans demanded he do his stunner, and he ended up doing it So Jeff is at the point now in his career which the swanton is expected and he has to figure out how and when to use it

It was the Ace Crusher before DDP used it, Johnny Ace's (John Laurenitis) Finisher. You know what they say, "Imitation is the sincerest form of Flattery". At least Orton got DDP's blessing to use it as well.

Matt’s lower spine and pelvis got fused from top rope leg drop, so it makes sense he hates the move. Maybe that’s why he retired the leg drop and switched to the twist of fate? It’s basically an RKO, which is a very safe move. Same with Sid vicious and top rope moves making him uncomfortable.

@@venomgaming7014 it would make sense for Jeff to stop using it unless it’s a special kind of match. That’s IF Jeff comes back from battling his demons again. Matt’s health improved once he took some time off and stopped using the leg drop.. which I think he’s used a little bit in AEW but not enough to really remember.

Its also very safe for the Rock to use the Rock bottom mechanically. He hardly bears the weight of his opponent unless they are smaller. And he holds them close instead of extending. I doubt it hurts either lol

The people's elbow would literally hurt less than a damn slap in the face in real life, but the way he created it, with pulling off the elbow guards and throwing them, doing that little jig, going off both ropes just to fall on his side to win a match...he made it absolutely iconic and everyone, people who don't even know wrestling at all, know what a people's elbow is lmao. Leg drop is the only wrestling move I ever pulled, did it several times on people who were lying on the ground during training for fun. Its super save, wouldn't feel a thing after performing. I respect Hulk Hogan for his work in wrestling, but there is so much bullshit popping up from him...

I'm sure Eddie Guerrero's death played a role and the WWE constantly using Guerrero's death in storylines probably didn't help either. I know people think that last bit is taking casting the net for potential causative factors too far but I disagree. If your brain and mind are already screwed up it can't be helpful to be explicitly reminded of your really good friend's death every time you go to work. How could he move on and heal if "Eddie is dead" is something he was constantly hearing? People try to bring up the fact that he had the brain of an 80 year old person with Alzheimer's disease as if that explains what happened. I don't think it does. The most obvious problem with that explanation is that if that claim is true he should have had Alzheimer's disease. He didn't. I don't think there's a problem with going back and watching his matches and still enjoying them. Pro wrestling is an art form and Chris Benoit was an absolute master of it. We can acknowledge that while also recognizing the evil he did in his last days on Earth.

AJ styles stopped doing the twisted tap for the same reason. Moves where you land on your back make it harder to avoid injuring the recipient. For example, the moonsault or shooting star or even frog splashes allows the performer to drop his arms and knees to prevent direct impact or any real contact. When. Kurt Angle botched a moonsault on Mr Anderson and landed (what looked like) on his head, Anderson mentioned Angle didn’t not touch him at all and was perfectly fine. Swanton and Spiral Tap leads to the performer landing on their back meaning they need to angle the move to where they “miss” most of the opponent’s body while still close enough to be convincing.

You’re not supposed to actually land on your head lol. Other parts of the body, like arms / thighs / chest / etc, are supposed to take the brunt of the impact. But it’s supposed to *look* like your landing head-first. So wrestlers try to ideally have a split-second difference between the impacts of their head and other body parts. Which can lead to a lot of accidents. Also …even when performed perfectly you still do have to hit your head on something eventually to sell it, even if it’s not THE focal point of the impact as it appears … which also isn’t exactly healthy.

I mean, I don't think he initially hated. I think it's more of a situation where he thought that swantom is cool af espelly since it was a move always getting the crowd hyped and very unique as he partially created it himself by customizing Senton. However, as the time went on the irreversible damage caused to his lower back became more and more apparent where it's not only limits your in ring mobility and athleticism but also every day's life so no wonder he started to hate the move that caused him so much pain and is extremely unhealthy long term at some point.

In the 2020 Royal Rumble he made Keith Lee look legit and after he got claymored out of the match by McIntyre he spent like 5 minutes on the floor outside the ring. It made McIntyre look strong as hell.
