Hi everyone, I’m Dominique. It’s now been 10 years since I first experienced symptoms of derealisation and depersonalisation and it seemed an important moment to reflect on this journey.
I was originally signed off sick for 2 weeks which seemed an unbearable amount of time to be ill for, yet here I am 10 years later still experiencing some of the same challenges.
If I’d have known at the beginning what was in front of me I’m not sure I’d have managed it but now on my way out of the other side I’m actually very grateful for all this journey has taught me.
I think as you get better it can be quite easy to become complacent about all the things that support your health and making this video has made me realise again the importance of looking after myself.
We need to be thinking about how to look after our health not just physically but mentally too.
I might be 10 years on but I still don’t believe this is as good as life gets, I’m so excited for the future :-)
Through lockdown I’ve also got in to lego and have found it can almost be quite meditative and I share what I’ve made so far!

Thank you for sharing your story! Mental health is no joke. I am so glad that you speak about it. And it does get better, you are a living proof of that. You are already doing so much better, and you are right, future holds even better surprises!

Thank you so much for you time and for commenting, it really means a lot. So many people suffer and I know when I was at my worst it was hard to believe things could change. They really can though I fully believe that. I hope you have a wonderful weekend

i have it „only“ 10 months now and to watch something like this gives me hope for thinking „you can enjoy life despite“. i dont really know if i will have this also for 10 years. but i think its important to prepare the mind to live with it.

alexanderhlebino sorry to hear you’re experiencing this, it’s really difficult. I really am improving all the time. It is slow progress but it’s progress and I’m so pleased with that. Do you have both derealisation and depersonalisation? I think a lot for me was working things through in therapy, trying to process things that have happened previously and overall trying to live a healthier life and be kinder to myself. I have bad anxiety too so working on my anxiety has helped too. It’s so complex though

Dominique Rowe-Driver im happy to hear you get at least better❤️ yes i have both of them and depression and bad anxiety as well. im also at therapy but i dont know if its that remedy i need. but im always active and try to not let affect me from all my mental issues. maybe you will be able to recover fully one day and i wish that to you very much!

alexanderhlebino thank you so much, that’s so kind. There were times I felt therapy wasn’t right for me too so I’d take breaks as I felt needed, is anything coming to mind that feels like it might help you? Sounds like you’re facing a lot but I really love your mindset, you sound very positive ☺️

Thanks for sharing bits of your story. I have been struggling for 7 years with it now. Just started trying to make videos about it too. You are spot on that we need to be talking about it.
