The greatest outpouring of Charles Finney’s life came here to Rochester, New York, in September 1830. In just six short months, this city would be completely transformed. It was a revival so significant that even, Finney’s harshest critic, would call it, “the greatest work of God, and the greatest revival of religion, that the world has ever seen, in so short a time.” One hundred thousand salvations were recorded during the revival.

Long ago my wife and I went to a conference in Rochester New York. A thousand pastors, mostly men. We sang, "O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing", a capella. What a powerful experience. Another factor in revival, we see in Acts 1-4, is the church being OF ONE MIND, and united in prayer, as we were that day! GW. :--}>

Beautifully done. The Glory of God is falling on all manner of communicating the Gospel. Jesus is waiting for His Bride. Only the Father knows the moment, but I sense the Bridegroom wants to come near and is showing Himself strong as a lion. Finney is a wonderful example. He did his part.and here we are in 2019....Wow!!!

I recommend Charles Finney's autobiography. Oh, that we would get hold of what he is sharing. He himself was a great intercessor and a man of genuine prayer-life before God! How else could he have been any sort of an evangelist or a revivalist? It grieves me very much when people (especially some so called "evangelists") say things like: "You know, I'm NOT an intercessor, I'm an evangelist" Come on, how could anyone have a ministry of the Word without the priestly ministry before God? How could anyone be an evangelist if they don't carry in their bosom God's agony for their lost neighbors without God heading for hell - and an all-consuming jealousy for the glory of God!? True messenger of God is the one like John the Baptist, when its actually the voice of God speaking through a man. Where and how did John get to be that voice? Leonard Ravenhill often quoted Samuel Chadwick saying: "No man is greater than his prayer-life"! Charles Finney himself had an intense and deep deep prayer-life with God where in he communed with God and encountered His holiness. And he shares glimpses into that many times in his autobiography. Read it! Finney told in his autobiograply he spent in mornings often hours before the Lord, just to meet with God. And he tells he had some intense periods of seeking God, whereing he spent days and weeks and months quite literally just seeking God, feeding on His Word, and praying through for God's eternal purposes - giving birth. And if you read Finney, its not only an evangelist who is called to such a life of prayer and intercession. Finney wrote: "What is wrong with a Christian who possesses no spirit of prayer? No power with God? He is an infidel." (“Power from on High” Chapter, the Spirit of Prayer) Wasn't Jesus an intercessor? Wasn't apostle Paul an intercessor? Wasn't the whole church of the book of Acts baptised with the Spirit of prayer - praying night and day. And someone is telling that there can be an evangelist who is NOT himself an intercessor? Absurd.

We must go back to preaching the law as he did! The first work of The spirit if God ! When he the spirit (comes) will convince the world of sin.
@irish03gator
@irish03gator 4 жыл бұрын
BrotherKennyHolland the law? The same law that was never meant for us under the new covenant? Preaching law leads to more sin. How about sharing about the goodness of god and his love for mankind And great sacrifice? The need to repent and give one’s life to Him in faith and surrender, but law preaching only leads to religious striving, not freedom.
@n9wff
@n9wff 4 жыл бұрын
@@irish03gator I disagree. The law would certainly invoke the rebellion in many but denying the work of the Holy Spirit to convict is avoided today. You can't repent without knowledge of the law. Paul writes that in his epistle to the Roman Christians/Jews. Galatians 3:24 speaks volumes if used right. Download "The Enquiry Room" by George Soltau. You may be surprised the difference in witnessing in 150 years.

What I believe is that it is possible to preach the gospel either in a humanly way or in a spiritual way, meaning with the power of the Spirit or without it. If a preaching is really full of the Holy Spirit, there will be repentance (He shall convince the world of the sin, of the wrighteousness and of the judgment). This kind of preaching may be mistakenly called preaching of the law, but it is not. I deeply respect Finney and Ravenhill, but I think the Spirit will guide us toward all the truth, and those men may have said things that is not 100% accurate, but they were full of the Holy Spirit, and I will learn from them as much as I can.

@@jessealves_xc Charles Spurgeon was studying when he came upon a dream recorded by Thomas Boston. His dream had him coming toward the two center where he saw people getting together to hear someone. As he got closer, he heard the Word of God being preached. He got closer to see who was talking. He questioned him. "Aren't you the devil?" "Yes, I am." "You're preaching the Word?" "Yes, I am." "How?" "I have found the greatest deception is to preach the Word without the anointing of God." Spurgeon trembled. The devil preached to Jesus. Do it mean the Spirit had His way?

In 1635 the ship the Planter landed in Massachusetts. A young man by the name Thomas Carter got off the ship as an educated servant. He became the 1st minister of Woburn ,Mass. His grandson Thomas Carter the 3rd had 15 children by 2 wife. His 1st wife passed away and bear him 7 children. Then his 2nd wife had 8 children. Sarah Carter was Finney's great grandmother .This made Charles Granderson Finney a 2nd cousin to me. This was I believe to be lost knowledge in my family. The Historical society printed the publication of the genealogy of Reverend Thomas Carter in 1909, authored by a relative. With only one living uncle ,he knew it not. God is a Restorer!!

The only thing we Christians can shut down is our services. And the most part of people who use to go to Church before the virus started dont go anymore or if they do its just every now and then. I spoke to a preacher the other night while out walking weeping before God He was coming home and stop beside me He said he just came from a tent meeting. I said I wish we could get someone in our Churches that are used in the Gifts that Gods people needs to be ministered to. He said yes people dont want to go to tent meeting to just hear another sermon He said we can do that on youtube. I said yes and hear some of the greatest preaching. He said he was praying one day im not sure if it was before the virus hit He said i dont usely say this and dad didnt usely say it either unless we know it was God who said because when you say God said you better know it was God who said it. but He said God spoke to Him and said He was going to do a sifting. He said when that virus hit it just kept a lot of Christians out of Church. I said no it didnt He said huh I said no it didnt. It kept people home that didnt really want to be in church in the first place. I said it didnt keep us out did it? we went to church all the time. He said yes we did. He agreed with what i said. I know there are some that didnt go to church because they had the virus some were fearful they say they were afraid of getting the virus but yet they went everywhere else but Church. Thoses are the ones that have been sifted. God always allows people to go thru things to see if Church means anything to them and to see if they really love him or not. Ive always had a love for Gods house if i ever lose that then you can say i have lost it for God and His house. Amazing isnt it we all like to hear about great men an women who paid the price to be used of God thru prayer and fasting? But the Church today is to content to just hear about paying a price they dont want to practice it. I mean what good is it to only hear about the price great men and women paid to walk with God if we arent going to do it. Thats like hearing the word and not doing it. Hearers only deceiving our own selves. If we still have time I pray God will stir those who really want it. If God wakes you in the middle of the night out of a dead sleep do you get up to pray and read the word or do you stay in bed? No we will never do anything for God laying on our beds refusing to get up. There are to many gods in so called Christians life. TV, sports, kids, money, selfishness, fishing, hunting, homes, jobs, Wow the church world has walk so far away from God and they have deceived them selves thinking they are ok. Paul said be not deceived. Are you. Did you ever think how long it takes to read or listen to one small book in the bible in the new testament? Only a few mins and people say they dont have time for Gods word. Are we lying to our self? Or are we deceiving our self. We take time for what we love dont we? Dont we? People will get up before day light to go fishing, or hunting or go on a trip to the beach but they wont get up when God wakes them up to pray. Now ask your self are you drawing closer to God or walking further away from him? Lets not deceive our self lets tell our self the truth. If we are going to name the name of Christ and say we are Christians lets act like one.

I guess Daniel Norris must never have heard of John the Baptist. John was a true revivalist who is estimated to have drawn 2-3 million people in his day many of which repented of their sins. These were already God's people who had backslid and were revived by John's preaching. However Charles Finney was not a revivalist and didn't revive anyone. Many of the souls he supposedly won using emotion soon backslid into their former conduct. A revival is where people who once had faith lost it, and then recovered it through good preaching. You could say it is like a coal fire that was once alight but went out. If the ashes were removed and replaced with paper, wood and coals and air was allowed to get to the fresh coal it would ignite and you would have revived the fire. Charles Finney was not a revivalist, he wasn't even a good evangelist. Careful research devoid of the usual Pentecostal, Charismatic blinding emotionalism would reveal the truth that Charles Finney was the beginning of the end for sound Christianity and the reason why there is such a 'falling away' (apostasy) today.
