Love the video. Absolutely love this lighter. There can't be very many more Zippos that are rarer or have more historical significance than this one.

Dwight D. Eisenhower owned four Zippos "gifted" to him (his wife was also given one) and not all given by ZMC. He did give up smoking within a week after the war. His wife also sent one of his lighters into Zippo to be repaired. Information found in u.s. national archives-Presidential Libraries All Presidents have to by law list all gifts given to them.

That is very interesting info. I have a collection of "trench art" zippos made by solders, I think all personalised lighters have their place. I would rather have a Lockheed black crackle over this, but this one is certainly rare.

ZF, cool story- as I watch this, I'm looking over at a picture of my grandfather.... It is of him as a Sergeant First Class, meeting general Omar Bradley on somewhere in Fort Campbell, in 1980. He's one one of the generals mentioned in that story, and the picture is labeled "Glenn with Omar Bradley, last living 5 star General of the Army". Sent chills my spine, thinking about the little webs of connection that tie everything together through history.

Looks to me to be standard '38-'39 engine-turned sterling with his stars added just below initial panel. Hinge looks curled upwards which indicated a repair hinge on earlier models. Note how flat the hinge looks on profile. I doubt he had time to carefully open and close the lighter like i do 🤣😹 so maybe they thought the outside 4-barrel would be heavier duty, i dunno. In any event, another case of Zippo participation in world history and events. Lucky boy or girl who latches onto this one!!!

@@ZippoFanatic77 Man wouldn't ya just love to fire it up? I have Jimi Hendrix' personal sterling Zippo but I've never lit the insert. I'm betting he was the last one to light it up and i don't wanna ruin that. I have lit a few fine cigars with another insert in it though. I couldn't help myself🤣😹😹😹
