"dubstep has been dead for like a decade" I mean, it's dead as in it's not being played on the radio. But there are still a LOT of dubstep fans so I wouldn't say it's dead.

people love to say that music genres they don't like are "dead" when they're definetly not, they're just not as in the hype as they may have been at one specific year

music major here, this album is incredibly technically impressive on the production end aside from just being a revolutionary sound overall. i like 10k gecs more personally but this album is still a masterpiece and jerry just feels like he thinks he's above enjoying it tbh

As someone who could be considered a music virtuoso, 100 Gecs is one of the most innovative and sonically genius musical acts of the last decade. The idea that you have to admit that they're bad is just wrong, because they aren't, it just means that you don't quite understand it

I'm sorry, but that couldn't be further from the case. I'd encourage you to watch our Radiohead or Wilco reactions, where I bash those albums for being pretentious and not doing anything interesting (even though they are extremely technically impressive and dare I say sophisticated ;) ). I think the case for why I don't like Gecs is that it doesn't do anything crazy or innovative and people act like it's this crazy revolutionary piece that is pushing the envelope in hyperpop. When we sat down to do this video, I wanted to see if there was anything that was musically impressive to me that I could get an ounce of appreciation for the album, and for the most part I was pretty unimpressed. There were moments in the video I remember where Babby or Bab Jab would say "wow" or "that's crazy" to someone playing an arpeggio over a synth cord and I'm not going to pretend that that is impressive. Also I suggested Blues Traveler and Jim Croce so I think my bar for things I find enjoyable is extremely low, I just have to like how it sounds and I don't like how Gecs sounds. Sorry if I came off as pretentious in this video, I hope you stick around to find out that that is not usually the case. - Jerry

@@BoyTimeChannel I don't think I have ever wanted to listen to anything only because it's technically good, liking the way it sounds is really the only valuable thing with music IMO and you don't care for their sound so that's cool. I think the "technically impressive, boundary pushing" thing comes from 2 people effectively including so many different genres in one album. Especially with how many copycats have come after them I don't know how you can say they aren't adding something new.

I genuinely don’t understand jerry’s perspective, an album shouldn’t have to be “Technically impressive” to be enjoyable. I don’t even think an album has to be Good necessarily to be enjoyable. I feel like a lot of people hear raving reviews and go into this album looking for something amazing that they aren’t going to actually find, like realistically it’s just a pop album under all the noise, it’s not breaking any barriers, but what actually makes it so great is how little it cares about being “good art”. It feels like a friend saying “hey chill, why worry? smoke a bowl, listen to dubstep or ska or something, make some goofy shit, who cares what anyone says, we’re still gonna have a good time” and I think that is worth taking into account. have fun with it, get the concept of “bad or good” out of your mind, and I think you’d enjoy this one a lot more, we don’t have a lot of time so why be so negative looking for mind blowing art when you could just see something eye to eye for what it is and look for positives in that, ya know? Either way, great video I loved every second, you guys riff off each other really well and made the whole video really interesting! Good stuff!

as someone who used to be like Jerry i kinda get where he's coming from a bit; it's one of those things you feel like can't admit you like or is good and i'm not really sure why but for a lot of fans who weirdly enough go thru this hater to fan transition it's something i've personally seen with a lot of people. I've gotten to a point where I realize I actually do like it and don't really care to hide that fact because at the end of the day it's just music made by some really cool hard working people that are good at doing exactly what it is they want and nobody should do anything but respect that at the very least

Yea I was this way. I would never say I was a "hater" per say but I just didn't really get it. I thought Money Machine and Ringtone were pretty catchy, but it wasn't until 10,000 gecs came out that I really realized their musical genius. Now I've played through the entire 1,000 and 10,000 gecs albums more times than I can count. It is pretty funny how you can go from initially disliking them or being indifferent to them being one of your favorite groups.
