Submersible pump inside the barrel, pipe/tubing to top, keep water below top of tube. No holes in barrel needed.

In Virginia we cut the barrel in half so it's not so tall and we drop in a fish tank pump so there is no drilling. We put live shad in it on the boat or fish from the bank with it. We carry it empty to the spot and a battery with the pump and drop the pump in the water to fill the barrel then throw the pump in the barrel and throw net the bait and Wala!

Can you tell LFG that he can use a 5/16” nut driver for all gear clamps a lot easier then a screw driver bit. And you can get the clamp a hell of a lot tighter. I’ve been in the trades for 30 plus years. You guys are awesome

LunkersTV Next time use a uniseal for sealing the pipes going into the barrel, they are only a few dollars each and form a watertight seal. No silicone or spray gunk that may have chemicals that can hurt the fish. Not to mention they are a lot faster, as their is no drying time! I used these with similar barrels for mixing saltwater for my old salt water fish tank.

that silicone will take longer to dry since it’s not in open air, if that makes any since at all. i siliconed one of the lids shut on them barrels to make a dock and it took forever for it to dry.

Rinse it with a cup of vinegar and water by rolling it around and let it air dry. It's what you do with a clothing washer except you let it run on its own so you lose the old clothes and grease smell.

I made mine with a shoreline marine 600 gph bilge pump and it works great with a 2 amp (12) volt battery line costed 40 dollars

not sure how well that flex seal stuff works, but from a automotive stand point, when i hear silicone i think of lube cause a lot of techs use silicone to lube brake pads. So you might get better luck using a sealer called RTV you can get it at auto parts stores. Techs use it to seal timing covers, some valve covers etc. if you let it dry, you will probably get a better seal and last longer.

Next time you have to seal water from leaking out, use life caulk in place of silicone. It's the same stuff they use on boats. It's a but more expensive but we'll worth the investment

You could mount a shut off valve on the bottom of the barrel and leave it in the back of your truck, and just net the fish out, or use a bucket for transferring them.

If PVC cement is good enough for the plumbing in your house, which is under considerable pressure, it is certainly good enough for what you are doing. PVC cement actually welds the fittings together and precludes the need for silicone on the joints. The only place silicone is necessary is where you go through the drum. Why not go one step further and put a spray bar at the top. PVC with some holes drilled in it.

Rob, My girls earned stickers for their own fish tanks and fish. At first tank and first fish easy. Then every 10-20 stickers per fish or decoration.

Next time mount your suction line and pump to the barrel lid. It eliminates holes in the side of the barrel.

Did you think about building this all into the lid...? Might avoid the dozens of possible water leaks this created when building the next one. The primer and cement are intended to go one on pipe and one on coupling. This would be the reason the pipe didn't go far into the elbow.

Instead of taking the Barrel all the way to the water pick up some SDR 35 6 inch pipe and make a trough that would go from the truck bed to the water and drive it close.

You only needed to mount each of the pump fittings and the spray head fitting and run the hose between them. That PVC that you did not glue right was not needed at all. You should of washed the barrel with dish washing soap, that better be fish safe silicon.

Now this is a great idea. I may have to give this a try.
