not only that look at the MUSIC we got to listen to! I mean today's stuff is pure garbage. My Great Granddaughter was recently over here and I happened to be playing Jennifer Rush's "The Power of Love" & she says what the hell WHO is that? She then noticed all these yesteryear songs on my desktop and started listening to them she was totally blown away didn't even know they existed. 17yo and she was in tears at times. yeah. so I tell her welcome to the 60's, 70's, 80's.

Very sad to say that at least 70 percent of what we just saw have passed! I was born in 1950 and was very happy to have lived those days! Brings tears to my eyes with the stupidity of people today. The majority are brain dead with their stupid cell phones! I did things creative with my hands back then such as paintings, artwork and model aircraft or car models. WAKE UP PEOPLE! I miss the 50s and the 60s.

The 50's to my parents must have seemed remarkable after the deprivation of WWII. Everthing revolved around a mom, a dad, the family and then the community. For me I remember family vacations and camping seeing the USA, shopping downtown, playing outside, going to church, community activities always with the family. Yes there were negatives too but there was a sense that we as Americans could solve problems and make things better.

I was born in 45 and experienced all the beautiful things in life back then. People were more honest and trustworthy and and a man could support a family, house payment, and car payment on a 40 hour a week job and live a comfortable life. Now you have to choose between buying food or gas for your car. I never thought I'd ever see our country in this sad a shape. Videos like this take me back to those times and soothe my soul and the music is a perfect match.
@kathysenn7664
@kathysenn7664 Жыл бұрын
@@johnbarnes1268 I was born in 51.. my dad along with many of his peers went off to work every morning while my mom and many other women kept the house and took care of the children. We took our meals at the same time every day prepared with care by those women. Neighbors talked over fences, respecting each other and those in authority when they were needed. Also my mom made the majority of what we wore. Things have changed drastically.. we shouldn't be surprised cuz Scripture has warned us. If I may say, the Lord causes his sun to shine on the evil and good, sending rain on the just and unjust. As He sits on His throne in heaven, His kingdom rules over all. (From Psalms and Matthew) I agree, those were brighter days, perhaps cuz we as children lived simpler, playing, and learning taught life lessons. May His love and peace and mercy and grace be known. Blessings.

I grew up in the 50s and 60s. I have lots of good memories as a kid but there was plenty of bad stuff going on too. Nuclear bomb drills, racism, women treated as second class citizens, hypocrisy, lead poisoning, pesticide poisoning and every kind of waste and pollutant you can imagine dumped into our drinking water. Most of our parents, the "Greatest Generation", had PTSD from living through the Great Depression, WWII and the Korean War. Dysfunctional families were more common than not. Nobody talked about any of that back then; it was taboo. Leave it to Beaver, The Andy Griffith Show, Father Knows Best, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, etc. was all Hollywood fluff. That's not how things were but that's how many people choose to view it. All that downer stuff being said, this collection of photos brings back the memories, good and bad.

I don't need a time machine to take me back to the 1950s, just my memory and videos like this one. Quite a bit of that looked familiar, especially those black cars with the running boards. We had one of those in 1951 or so. Standard shift, and it didn't take me long to realize when Dad was supposed to shift the gears according to the noise the engine made. My father used to deliberately tease me by driving along while the noise rose in pitch and I screamed at him to shift the gears, already. I probably thought something would blow up if he didn't.

The photo at 7:49 was taken looking West toward Miami, Arizona on US 60, from a point just East of where the Apache Trail [Arizona 188] cuts off to the North. At that time, the copper mine in the center of the photo was owned by Phelps Dodge. The mine is still in operation, but it has changed hands and I've lost track of who owns it today. The sign in the foreground advertises A-1 Arizona Pilsner Beer, which went out of business in 1984.

I think it's due to the fact that these images were taken on Kodachrome slide film. It was known for it's vivid colors. Kodak claimed Kodachrome slides would last "a lifetime" without fading out. Now we see that it's true! The images outlasted most of these people depicted.

Yes Kodachrome transparencies were well saturated. I loved that about Kodachrome. I guess not everyone else did or does. We used to shoot Kodachrome 64 at 50 (ASA) for even more saturation! Of course in the 1950s Kodachrome was pretty slow film, ASA 10 I think. You really needed a bright sunny day for best results, but my how nice those old slides look. And one great thing is the slides didn’t “wash out” over time like Anscochrome.

Had a 51 olds 98, paid 150.00 dollars for it in the early 1970s. Ran like a clock, put snow tires on it for Chicago winter. We had some bad ones back then,never got stuck. Back the tires,brakes, mufflers, batteries,did not last long.All cars are 10 times better and safer.I am 74 years old and love these modern automobiles! Tom Filipiak

Any ideas where most of the more "beach town" or coastal photos in the early minutes of the video were taken? Feels like Florida, but it could be the Texas Gulf coast/Galveston, I suppose. Although my parents were living in Galveston about this time, and I don't remember seeing photos quite like this. Any ideas?

I was born in ‘51 and looking back at those simpler times I realize how naive we were and how much we have learned and changed in the last 70 years. We can look back and think it would be good to live like that again but these current days are truly the best years in the history of mankind. Don’t buy what the news people and politicians are selling. We are truly living better than Kings and Queens of 100 years ago!

I’m interested in seeing the 50’s from the perspective of people of color (e.g., Japanese Americans, African Americans, et al). My guess is their’s would not make us nostalgic for the “good old days” or a simpler time...
