This is an excellent idea! Basically if you build in a big POI, you don't even need to put a ladder there and zombie will spend most of the time running through the building! Cool concept and I will definitely use it in my playthrough. Thanks!

You can go to the top of the dishong tower and just hangout there the whole night. Without doing anything. It’ll be morning before they reach you lol

Knocked it out of the park again, sick build that works extremely well. Love that it can be built virtually anywhere though I think I'll use it by a cliff like you first showed.

Day 100 and I still haven't found a cliff face in my 8k world. But I can think of several tall buildings that this would work on. It looks like a fun concept to try.

I think you could make this a free standing base by building your own wall. Make it two or three blocks thick(or morre) by 10 or so blocks high and four blocks wide. Depending on the material used it may or would not be as durable as building against an existing structure. Put ladders for the zoms to climb on the backside, hang the base on the front side.

Yeah you could absolutely do it that way! If you built yourself a stable structure, you could use the same concept here but like you said, you'd want to make it thick enough, with a strong enough material so they don't immediately destroy it.

Cool concept but if you are doing an AFK base, why not just disable the bloodmoon?

Glad you like the concept! What is great about this base is the player could definitely use it for a more active playstyle. You could replace some of the front plates for some blocks you can shoot through. But to your question, I like to challenge myself to build something that can stretch the limits of survivability. When I actually play the game, I would not ever do complete AFK as I enjoy fighting the horde. But you can use concepts of an AFK base design in a non-AFK to control the pathing and flow rate of zombies.

Stupid is as stupid does. 😅 I think i'm going to have to make a cliff. I play alot on small worlds .., 2k currently (thanks to you). Trying to get sizeable terrain features to spawn in 2k worlds is not easy. Cities also have a hard time spawning. I think i had one city spawn one time on a 2k map. -So what i do is open the world editor and change a town into a city using the existing road system and maybe add a town block grid if i need extra. I find those big city block grids to be pretty taxing on my laptop anyway.

You can manually create a cliff using the shovel terrain dev tool and/or the wrench that can replace blocks...so replace dirt with air to clear the space.

I really like the concept for a very early base, but, I didn't see any Succubi in your test run for day 7000. Wouldn't they tear that little box up?

This particular base is in vanilla so no succubus here :) However, I am guessing you may have seen my DF variant of this design in our other video? I used it as an early base there and I highly suspect Succubus would tear it to shreds. Some hefty modifications would need to be made to make that work.

Are you referring to the DF video we did? Yeah I made those modifications to the DF base after testing under what conditions cops spit. So I used cop spit safe blocks which required a slightly different design. Same core design but cop spit friendly :)

@@yaboyflvckor456 Despite having no line of sight, cops will still spit at you if you use certain blocks as your main obstruction like plates. Hatches also when popped open are spit targets even though they block line of sight to you. That is why in my modifications, I ditched the plates and the hatches and used full cube blocks and a door :) If you want more details on the cop spit, you can check out both of our videos on the topic.

Takes me ages to figure out these shapes, he said use wedge from high to tip to narrow but I can't see how to place them like that.

You'll need to go to advanced rotation to rotate the shapes such that the steep part of the slope is vertical. They are the wedge narrow shapes and if you orient the top row correctly, you can copy rotation on every other shape from high to tip. Good luck!

Found it extremely hard to follow, looking for the the wedge block you mention and all I hear is wedgenary or whatever it is sat here for almost an hr watching it on repeat trying to work out what you said

Sorry for your difficulty. The blocks you are looking for are of the wedge narrow family i.e. (wedge narrow low, wedge narrow middle, wedge narrow high, wedge narrow tip).

hey.. will zombies go sideways on ladders? if you have a bunch of ladders going back up the zombie drop zone.. i assume they will get back up faster ... will they only travel upwards on one ladder or can you make sideways ladders that makes them go up to the top but much slower? ie lets say for example u make one ladder from the ground only go half way up and then next to the top of that ladder another ladder going to the top will they see it as a path? go up one, sideways shimmy to the next ladder and go up that? or will they ignore it completely? and if they do sideways shimmy.. whats the longest route you can take them around on ladders before they give up and just climb up the cliff themselves? and.. if they are bunching up on ladders does going sideways make them fall off more often?

I have never seen a zombie go sideways on ladders. I have over 2000hrs, so I hope my answer helps. I believe zombies can only travel vertically on ladders. I am 90% sure about that. TFP could change anything on any patch though lol!

@@RageyRage82 yeah but most ladders uve seen go to the top of something... so there would be no need for them to go sideways.. my question is if u build one thats vertical til half way then sideways then vertical again will they go along it... and if so how much can u extend this path.. obviously the horizontal ladders would need to be at least 3 blocks apart other wise they can climb up with only a one block gap between them

Because without the zombies, I cannot exploit the zombie ai ;) You can certainly construct a base like this and make it actively defendable if that is more your speed. I have done that before and it works great.

@@pseudoposse I’ve built my fair share of cheese bases, but I always fought the zombies. Otherwise I’d just turn them off instead of having to build a way to avoid them lol just change the setting for the day

@@pseudoposse for example, when I go on long mining sessions I generally turn zombies off and block durability down. As I don’t need to spend 3 days to do something that can be done in half a day with the right settings lol

You need to fully support the bottom of the wedge narrows where they connect to the pillars. Otherwise, the pillars won't be able to support the whole structure.
