the most important cue usually is: exhale into the water while your face is underwater. Face comes up to inhale when the elbow of the same side breaches the surface and goes down again when hand submerges again. Have fun!

You need a chest a strap bro. Wrist based HR is incredibly inaccurate. I did hill repeats with the wrist based HR on my Garmin when my chest strap died, and it never went over 105bpm. That same hill with the Polar H10 chest strap I don’t get to the top below 168bpm, usually touching 180’s. So my watch is more than 70bpm off without the chest strap.

I find that using the Garmin chest HR monitor linked up to the watch is more accurate

You should try a chest HRM! Much more accurate than the watches themselves, they can be quite inaccurate at times (all brands)

If you’re ever down in Surrey, we need to take you to Boxhill for some hill repeats and burgers after! You can attempt the ball buster challenge, this is a fitness challenge by the way and not an eating one!ha! Love the videos Ross, keep them coming.

Love the hill sprint challenge! I have been working with Charlie Pitcher for my N.Atlantic solo row next June. Love your books. Going to be using #blueprint for the next 365 days to plan my training cycles! Will be documenting it and making videos! Keep up the good work and inspiration Ross!

My garmin fenix watch sometimes has problems with the HR so I use a HRM (bought from garmin) to have a more precise HR measurement

My Polar H10 and GritX will put off almost a 20 beat difference between the two. Put on a chest strap and give it another go!😁

For sharp efforts you need a chest strap, the sensor in watches is ok if your heart rate is constant but the way it calculates hr doesn't cope with quick changes.

The watch (Garmin 6?) In built HR isn't as accurate as when you pair with a HR strap 👍

I have a garmin watch and the HRM pro cheststrap from garmin, and I have learned that the heart rate monitor on the watch literally can’t be trusted.

Setting some serious pace on the uphills there Ross. I “ran” Barf & Lord’s Seat last summer and my legs burned for about a week afterwards. Need to visit The Round next time I’m in Keswick.
