Warning: Images of lynched, black bodies
100 years ago, ten thousand people from the city of Duluth formed a mob to hang three African American men in 1920. It's not something that Minnesotans often talk about. A group in Duluth decided to break the silence and create a memorial on the site of the murders.

USA was very different from today if we talk about rasism in 1920.. Blacks was second class citizens. But I think it was sad that this happend in Minnesota who actually was a state of big uportunities for scandinavian immigrants from 1860s to around 1900. But around 1920 it was many massacres and race riots against blacks in US (Chicago, Tulsa etc). Times was brutal.

Lynching = Denial = SHAME why these people are ashamed for their actions. What stands out to me is how long it took and how much convincing it took to simply recognize innocent men were murdered publicly. What does that say about the mindset of the majority (not all) of this people? Makes wonder if what Black Israelite group are teaching is accurate in that the Caucasian people (not all) have ancestry stemming from Biblical Esau/Edom. His youthful and adult characteristics and attributes are undeniably present in many Caucasian people. And the prophecies written are equally visible in what we consider our world history. Although, many believe the Bible to be fictional and incomplete and can easily be used to manipulate people to create cults etc. I’ve found solace in its reasoning. Trying to understand why Caucasian racist as majority have gone to such great length to systematically oppress a whole race of people simply based on skin color boggles the mind of Black people as a whole. Especially when you consider that they themselves would want to be judged on their own merit, versus what their ancestors or even neighbors have done. This makes since, and I really wish that such an empathetic thought process was more prevalent amongst all people. This is my opinion in light of my knowledge and experience. I mean to take nothing away from the countless efforts put forth by those called “allies,” to Black people. Thank you for caring.

"Race is not biological. It is a social construct. There is no gene or cluster of genes common to all blacks or all whites. Were race “real” in the genetic sense, racial classifications for individuals would remain constant across boundaries. Yet, a person who could be categorized as black in the United States might be considered white in Brazil or colored in South Africa. Unlike race and racial identity, the social, political and economic meanings of race, or rather belonging to particular racial groups, have not been fluid. Like race, racial identity can be fluid. How one perceives her racial identity can shift with experience and time, and not simply for those who are multiracial. These shifts in racial identity can end in categories that our society, which insists on the rigidity of race, has not even yet defined. " -Angela Onwuachi-Willig, a professor of law at the University of Iowa College of Law, is the author of "According to Our Hearts: Rhinelander v. Rhinelander and the Law of the Multiracial Family."

This answered a question I've had about the families of lynch mob participants. I've always wondered how they felt if they knew about their relatives' participation. In this case, he was ashamed and expressed that he'd raise his children so they'd be tolerant. That's a good thing. Lynching always makes me angry and sad. The hate, fear, and anger expressed by those white people and their belief that they had the right to commit murder against Black people is frightening. This was not the first nor the last lynching committed against innocent Black men. I appreciate that this community came together to honor those men who lost their lives due to hate.

Facing your past, free's you for your future. God said all have sin. But to confess your sin is the first step to freeing your spirit. The first documented confession was that of Cain and Abe. The soul lives forever. Some are raised to eternal life, and others are raised to everlasting torment. Life is hard and some decisions are made in a fraction of a second. Yet the consequences of the action will be felt forever. I think of Lazarus and the rich man. For a fraction of time to enjoy the moments of joy yet to lose it because of selfishness and hate and a distain for others only because it comforts your ego. Just to say I'm better than or to promote the supremacy of a group is beyond imagination. You're not a group but a person. In no way can you carry the burdens of another. It's hard just caring your own load and actions. I'll never understand why knowing truth people rather live a lie! I'm only responsible for self. My wrong does't help others. Only my good can inspire others to find the struggle to do unto others as I'd like others to do unto me.
